Heart of read blue of blue has been on my TBR for a while now. I think I heard Oceana talking about it. Maybe I'll read that this month finally. I've been in a medieval/kingdoms kick lately.

I'm glad you enjoyed Once! The books are available individually, but the ones with more than one book are cheaper. I started Audrey Stallsmith's Thyme Will Tell mysteries in June and have enjoyed the first two: Rosemary for Remembrance and Marigolds for Mourning.

I wanna read the lake house by Kate Morton this summer. O read homecoming last year and the forgotten garden the year before! I loved them both but they were so long! That’s what keeps me from reading others. I know I’ll love them but they so long!

You should read "Dust" and "Shadow" by Kara Swanson. It is a retelling of Peter Pan that shows the darker side of the whole story. I really enjoyed the two books and I think you will too!

All construction workers seem to do is back up. It would be better if the beepy thing only turned on when they go forward. 😂 The books in Once do have separate books, but I don’t know if those are still in print or just the bind ups. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I read What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher last month and also gave it 3☆, I'll eventually try something else they wrote but I'm not in a hurry. I did enjoy Heidi by Johanna Spyri its a pretty good childerens classic. Here's the last (very sad) poem I wrote Slumber we make true connections across the digital divide lasting friendships even when time is not on our side the light of a life to guide us through darkest night rest now and be at pease your memory will shine bright indelibly you are written in our hearts sacred journal with sorrow pass you into the arms of slumber eternal

I am reading the ‘Memoirs of Lady Trent’ series by Marie Brennan. I have one left in the 5 book series. I love the Victorian era feel mixed with the fantastical element of dragons. They are not perfect but solid 4-4.5 stars for me. It may be something you would like. I would like to try His Majesty’s dragon series sometime too.

Hey, Chantel! I am a Christian who enjoys fantasy as you do, so I appreciate your recs and opinions. Just wanted to offer my unpopular opinion on Six of Crows: I didn't much care for it. It felt like a far-fetched, watered-down Mistborn and gave me the Young Adult genre ick. It was decent until around the 60% mark (maybe) where the author decided to insert lots of check boxy character traits and predictable plot points. I had to push myself to finish reading til the end. Solid 3 stars.

I'm glad you enjoyed His Majesty's Dragon, though I'm sorry the narrator of the audiobook wasn't better. I've been curious about the stories in Once since you first mentioned it a few years back. I think I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

I discovered Cameron Dokey as a teen and have loved her fairytale retellings ever since. I think my favorite is still The Storyteller's Daughter (not to be confused with the book with the same Chantel has on her tbr for July; this one is a retelling of Arabian Nights).

@@ChantelReadsAllDay Oh, one of the first adult historical fiction series I read was "Sharpe's" by Bernard Cornwell, which covered the war from army/marines perspective. So, I was slightly familiar with the history around the time.

Sorry that you were sick and feeling anxious in June. I am still praying for your family’s adjustment to your new province. I started Emma M. Lion in June and loved it. I also tried the first in the Myrtle Hardcastle middle grade mystery series and thought it was just ok. I read a short old Newbery winner called The Summer of Swans and really liked it. I re-read The Hiding Place for the first time in 20 years 😢 To be more like Betsie ❤

Antimacassars--what the woman tried to sell Mrs. Pollifax in book one. She had a great story. (they're covers for the backs of chairs so that "Macassar" hair oil didn't stain the cloth). I love Parker Pyne. He's so much fun. They're not all mysteries but they're a hoot. The tagline for For Whom the Sun Sings has a spoiler IN THE TAGLINE. I was so ticked. The Homecoming sounds so good. Hmmm... That and Shadow & Bone keep drawing me in. I've heard good things about Once! Now... I think maybe I should try it.

Ha, I just Googled Antimacassars, now I've got that awesome visual and it makes that line even more hilarious. Too bad the rest of the book didn't live up. Boo to obvious spoilers. It's like the first Nancy Drew, The Mystery of the Old Clock, not to spoil it or anything but she's looking for a will and guess where it is?

I had a few 5 star books-In This Moment (book 2 in the Timeless series), The Eternity Gate, and The Queen's Rising and The Queen's Resistance. Also read Dear Henry, Love Edith, The Blonde Identity(not YA, definitely adult, language and content but funny) and The Familiar(story was interesting, liked the main character but again, language and content-almost dnf'd but skim read parts to find out what happened, did not love the ending).

Hi Chantel, I'm hoping you can help me. I am on a quest to find a book that you had previously hauled. I cannot remember the title, but, if I'm remembering correctly, it is a beautifully illustrated poetry (?) book with botanicals, I think. Does this ring any bells for you? Thanks for your help.

Heart of Red, Blood of Blue? Probably not, at least, I wouldn't recommend it to my 13-year-old. There's some talk of the main character being called to her betrothed's tent before they are married (which she refuses to do) and a few other things along that line throughout the book.
