In '75, I turned 18, graduated HS, and could buy beer. I saw Jaws in the theater and the "Frampton Comes Alive" tour in the summer, but the absolute highlight of the year was seeing The Who with Mooney in November. I've seen The Stones twice and Zep once, but that is still my favorite concert memory. Great year! I saw the Tommy tour twice in '89 and saw them once again in the early 2000s, before John passed. Greatest live band ever. I liked Tommy and Who's Next, but Quadrophenia and this tune, Naked Eye, is what turned me into a Who fan. Another 10 from Pete. Genius lyrics. The Who Naked Eye kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaK0dI2EjMaAeLs RIP Mooney and John. Thank You!

Quadrophenia is a mini-opera called "Long Live Rock - Rock Is Dead" released as a double album on 26 October 1973. "Love, Reign o'er Me" (Pete's theme) is the final song of the opera. The narrative is about a young working-class mod named Jimmy. He clashes with his parents over his use of amphetamines and doubts his own self-worth. He struggles to keep up with his peers, and his girlfriend leaves him for his best friend. It truly is a masterpiece and is one of the reasons that The Who were considered the best band in the world for many years.

You probably have to describe what a Mod was (in the 1960s). Our tribal music groups were very different to other countries and did not exist in most of them. Mods were unique to the UK and particularly England.

I was 8 years old when Quadraphenia was released by the Who and my oldest sister bought the album, she 14 yrs old and I was already allowed to go into her bedroom even if she wasn't home and I could play her records on her stereo. I would put on her headphones and I would listen to Bowie, Stones, Zeppelin, Who, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Bad Co. Rod Stewart, The Doors, Beatles, Beach Boys, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Jethro Tull, Hendrix, and so much more. I would read the album cover front and back then the inner sleeve and dust jacket hoping there would be lyrics. I read who the musicians, writers, producers, engineer, what studio, what dates songs were recorded, who did the album cover design, all while listening with headphones on for hours or as long as I could before my sister got home and kicked me out. A lot of times I got to stay and she and her girlfriends would talk about boys, try on clothes or bikinis and that's how I learned how to deal with girls when I got older. Her friends taught me how to kiss and some other things. I was so ahead of the game I was messing around with girls kissing and stuff in 6th grade with girls in 7th grade and getting laid in 8th grade. High school I was killing it. I like to think it was the music that made my sister's friends so open, that or the weed and Boonesfarm wine.

Your sister had the Christmas-edition TM with the holly clusters, and she wore those leather vests with the tassels you could clip a roach clip onto. I’m pretty sure your sister hung out with my sister, and probably sometimes shared records. I bet some of those double albums still have seeds in the crease, too. 🙏🏻🌻🐢☯️

@@heyoka9012 ---hahahaha Actually we lived about a mile from the beach in L.A. so she was more of the surfer girl. Swim team, volleyball, Ditto jeans, cut off Levi 501s, halter tops or bikini tops, she did have the fringe vest, but didn't wear it too much. She was the hot girl in high school, the one that had half a dozen candid photos throughout the yearbook and one candid full page full lenth photo also. The photographer must have been a stalker, LOL. I have two sisters actually and there were always guys trying to hang around them. Most were afraid of my dad, and they were right to be afraid. It also motivated my brother and I to start working out and learning to fight well, being that we younger and might have to deal with older dudes disrespecting our sisters.

Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath is also featured in this amazing performance. It is so amazing to watch and hear the audience absolutely erupt when Roger Taylor (Queen drummer) announces the arrival of Roger Daltrey onto the stage!

this song is such a masterpiece. the intro is just as important as the outro, i think, setting the tone of the rainfall, making your expectations for something gentler, -- a love song of a different kind -- and then Roger hits you with that first wail. The Who put out two of the greatest rock operas in Tommy and Quradraphinia. They are both worth a full listen. They both came out while I was figuring out what music I liked as a kid. The only time they put out what wasn't their best was the first couple of albums after the death of Keith Moon. It took them about five years to get back into their groove. I had a similar reaction when I first heard this in the 70's, it took me a few listens to really appreciate it though, but when I got it, I got it.
