@user-cnksi223 it’s also a biblical name. I know my mom named my sister after Naomi from the Bible as the story of Ruth and Naomi is her favorite. Koreans are really religious, a lot of Christians so that’s why you see that name often among us.

It is always good to choose the good side of interpretation when it comes to the strange look. Perhaps, it could be out of curiosity or because of the blackness is different. Accepting your self as you are unique and loving it well is expected in such situations. If they touch your hair without asking, try to see it in a different way, instead of they are doing it out of racist intentions. Trying to be someone else’s color or natural appearance is dangerous. Just be who you are and see the good side. The lack of understanding what I said above is leading people to the obsession of plastic surgery and bleaching their face.

Korea was just a different place up until the 2000s. And about 15 years before that they were a dictatorship, and another 20 years before that they were one of the poorest nations in the world, so things in that country change FAST. like, fast, fast. Remember, most people didn't even know where Korea was located on the map so they were pretty much extremely xenophobic towards anyone who didn't look like them due to not having as much exposure to foreigners back then. Today however there are more mixed race couples in Korea than ever in its history so things have definitely changed a lot over there.

The reason why most people react the way they do to "mixed race" individuals is simple. They are uncomfortable in their own skin. Since most races separate themselves and form a beauty standard that best serves their looks. Most races are brought up believing that their type of beauty is the height and model of what people should look like and is generally sonetimes universally accepted and anything that strays from it is offensive and unsettling to the general philosophy of beauty standards. They question themselves and it is uncomfortable to have that feeling. Every race feels that dig at their self confidence when they see a person who has both races combined in one face. Especially if the best features from both races combine into a very atrractive albeit different look. And especially in Asian races where "purity of race" is very important standard they live by.

I dont think denying somebody a job or renting a house is something subtle, because that stuff happens in Asia. Same when teachers make fun of mixed students or encourage the bullying in the students. For example i saw the case of a japanese girl with foreign background who in a test of japanese she reached the highest score and the teacher instead of congratulate her was mad and says to the other students "how a filthy foreign who is not pure japanese has a biggest score than you ?" In a vlog read about a guy who is mixed who was working reparing air conditioners and when he was talking with the personn on the phone they dont have problem but when the black asian dude showed up in the house the client shows a complaint to the company.

@@kleec495 Ha! So you think that it is smooth sailing (no discrimination) towards African people, say, in Korea/Asia? lol Instead of being "sad thing", try to know and appreciate the huge differences between the special case of your european-invented "racism", and the Natural & Unavoidable circumstances of cultures clashing when they are forced to coexist in the same immediate space. When people of different cultures share the same immediate space, EXTRA EFFORTS have to be made in order to accommodate the 'foreign' behaviors; because personal interactions are no longer 'natural' and effortless and easy when dealing with a foreign culture. The loss of the naturalness and ease in interpersonal interactions can be exhausting, which then gives rise to frustration and other negative responses. And if the different cultures are forced to coexist in the same immediate space, the negative push-back will be even worse. Two foreign cultures were not designed to coexist in the same immediate space; because they are too often contradictory. That is why it will be so easy for children to bully: The challenges of having to deal with 'foreign' differences is taxing for children. And if said children is already having a rough life at home, the bullying by them is likely to get even worse.
