Autumn is my favorite season. It is an oddity that I can find places on this Earth that remain in a perpetual state of summer, winter, and spring. But nowhere offers a perpetual fall. In fact, most of the Earth's land mass has no autumn to speak of. I suppose rarity is one of the pleasures of fall.
@tobycatVA

A perpetual state of Autumn is a perpetual state of dying off and slipping into wintery death's embrace. Searching for such a place might be best accomplished in nursing homes, or city homeless camps in many blue city parks and on sidewalks in the upper northwest.

As a lifelong midwesterner, I have always liked the fall because winter has cold, summer has heat and humidity and bugs and sunburns and social gatherings, and spring has allergies and lots of rain. @@johnshriver8416 Former Iowa resident here too and yeah, though I'd WAY rather have a Midwestern autumn than a Midwestern winter. If you want really severe temperature swings, however, come out to one of the deserty Western states, where sometimes the temp can fluctuate well more than 40 degrees F in a DAY. (More so/faster in North Dakota, which holds the record.) On the other hand, at least here in Utah I no longer have to put up with the humidity and constant stickiness of a Midwestern summer. I also have all four seasons, but with a VENGEANCE! It can be over a week of 100-degree highs in the summer and then down to the single digits (above) in winter in the same year.

One of the amazing memories was walking through that same park at night with the sound of the leaves rustling beneath my feet and smelling them, then hearing a flock of Canadian Geese flying in formation overhead, going south. With the low cloud layer overhead somehow making everything quieter sound wise, more muted, similar to snowfall deadens sounds. I live out west now, everything holds onto their leaves and stays green way further into fall and then when the first freeze happens, everything turns brown at once, and we never get the gradual fall colors that the Midwest get's.. I do miss that. But I don't miss the high humidity summers.. Uhg..

I grew up in Michigan, of the gorgeous glowing fall leaves, but live now in Omaha, of the going from being in the 90°s to the leaves going straight from green to brown, while it stays in the 70°s until it goes straight down to 20° and the wind flaying the skin off your face. I will move home soon, and enjoy an actual fall again! And I love your TARDIS tea set, so beautiful...

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, in the foothills about 30 miles from Seattle, our autumn typically began in early to mid October, at which point it would drizzle cold rain for approximately 6 months. Followed by spring, where it drizzled slightly warmer rain for another 3 months, after which we had about 3 months of the most glorious summer you could ever imagine!

Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the retro flashbacks about your former self with your wife. Absolutely brilliant. This is better than anything on SNL in decades. Laurence, you are upping your game. Brilliant. I grew up in Michigan and my favorite seasons are fall/winter. I like spring/summer too, but I was born in one of the biggest blizzards in the Midwest in January 1978, and attribute my love of cold weather and snow to this event. I was birthed in a blizzard! And, I hate humidity and sweating and being hot.

I would love fall, if it would be immediately followed by spring, without the depressing winter. December is okay, some snowfall, holidays, but then the next 2 months is about waiting for warmer weather in the dark. And all time throughout fall, I think about how short the summer was, and how long don I have to wait again for T-short weather.

Brilliant. Thank you. As many others are writing, I'm sure, autumn is an invigorating change from what to me was always the oppression of summer in my native St. Louis. Moving north for college, I at last found something even better -- WINTER. My first winter up here was the most magical I'd ever known with a gorgeous white landscape most of the time from November through March that year. Winter is still the most uplifting time of year to me, feeding me good spirits, high energy, and a strange obsession with walking on the frozen lake around midnight when the Moon is full. Well, someone has to love it....

Laurence. I live in Texas. Here, we have Early Summer, Summer, Late Summer, and squeezed in between Early and Late is for about 3 and a half weeks is what we magnanimously call "winter". Except for a couple of years ago when Old Man Winter decided to pay us a visit in spades. Caught us all by surprise.

Which part of Texas? I'm from Dallas, but moved to the Rio Grande Valley for 3 years in the early 1990s. As someone who loves her sweaters, it was quite difficult adjusting to the fact that there were maybe three days of sweater weather per year down there. Here in Dallas, we hardly ever get snow - I still remember the only year for my childhood that we got enough snow in the winter to have to make up a day of school in the spring - but it definitely can get cold.
