It also looks like in the second (more intentional) watercolor you broke up your lines a lot more, something I need to start practicing. Thanks for great video!

Yes, I’m glad you mentioned that! I actually have that on my list of video ideas. It was something I never considered in the beginning, but suddenly found myself doing automatically. It feels like a step in the right direction. 😁

Great video! Makes me rethink glazes, underwashes... Great results when you let the colours be without too much layering...they look so vibrant and fresh as compared to the ones with the underlay colour

Yes! While under painting and glazing can be great in certain situations, I applaud the watercolor artists who can get their point across with so few brush strokes. It’s something I’ll be striving to achieve.

I airbrush for a living and when I am going a art piece on a bike, I will paint my whole scene in white/grayscale THEN ad color for that very reason!

I've mde LOTS of watercolour mistakes; I've been painting in oil and acrylic for over 50 years, but only started to use watercolour relatively recently. My biggest mistake was basically colouring in an existing drawing - and that existing drawing not being very good; you can get away with that in opaque paint (though better that you don't) because you can re-shape and adjust as you go along - that's really not possible in watercolour, so either get your drawing right to start with, or draw with the brush, on very basic guidelines, if you use any at all. I'd say the biggest mistake I've seen others make is to use far too little paint - so their pictures look washed out and feeble; the paint dries lighter than the initial wash would have you believe, of course: so I suggest people not be afraid of colour, but use it strongly. There are many, many ways to paint in watercolour - the most important thing for me was finding the paper that suited me best; and that varies from person to person.

Yes, I agree that a good sketch is so important. I’m guilty of jumping in without a plan far too often. That’s so true about the paper. I couldn’t believe what a difference it made when I upgraded. I remember starting out on thin paper with absolutely no texture.

So it’s basically just laying down multiple layers, letting the paint dry in between. You’ve probably already done some glazing without realizing it!

Is this video made up? There cant be such idiotic people out there not knowing something as simple as this...... and to say this is wrong when you can actually use it very well just depending on what you want to achieve and how you work... ah the classic clickbait 0 content video, classic

Thank you for your comment, however, I don’t appreciate your use of the term “idiotic” when referring to people who are learning a new skill. Watercolor painting is very different than painting with acrylics, and using the same techniques will result in very different outcomes.
