Damn. Homie was physically crushing BUD/S, putting in the grind....but then he spoke to some folks who quit, and succumbed that mental pressure. That's so wild and sad.

We learn from our failures. This is the essence of BUD/S and SEAL training yet done to the extreme. As you've shown us, Jake, the instructors will beat you down, you will fail but does a man have the gumption to push through the failures and keep going? This young man was facing more of a maturity issue and lost his focus. Whether he gets another shot or not, he should take the lesson learn and let it assist him with his life going forward. He learned a lot about mental toughness he can take from this. Class young man.

Many kids today don't know how to suffer and embrace the suck. Noah said it best "They don't owe you anything." You have to earn everything you get, a little luck doesn't hurt. Grit is an intangible trait, you earn grit through adversity and going through hard things and it isn't something that can be faked. Hard times make hard men, success surrounds themselves with success and rejects the notion of failure.

Now as I get older the biggest mistake I see young guys make in any facet of life is hanging out with people who aren’t on the same mission as you or who arent trying to accomplish anything. Their energy will rub off on you, you become the people you hang out with. Right now I’ve had to cut off family because they don’t believe in me. It’s rough and hard to do when you’re young but you HAVE TO cut people out who aren’t on the same mission as you or at the very least who have a weaker mindset than you.

I appreciate this info and took many notes. I’m 24 and still need to go to MEPs and get a good asvab score, but I want to be a navy seal. My life has not been a super hard struggle, but I’ve been through a lot, many hard workouts and mentally I feel I’ve built a callus. I can tolerate a lot and push through a lot. Spent some time at the Military Marine Academy in Harlingen Tx. My HS football team was pretty good for our size, and I’d say my workouts there were harder than most schools. Been on some serious bike rides, against the wind, legs burning, walked/ran many miles, strength good through moving jobs. Haven’t really hit the weights like I was doing in HS but I’ve maintained my strength and probably got stronger in different areas. I don’t have the money for how I want to eat. Slim. So I don’t lift much weights cuz I see it as burning a lot of calories. Great calisthenics. I can swim, want to be a lot better though. Hopefully I get in. Want it badly. To add to this video, honestly dude seemed to not tell the whole story. If you were exhausted by Friday, say that, don’t blame it on ur friends. If you were taken care of by ur parents, and went from a super comfortable household, straight to bud/s, say that. You let out the obvious you probably weren’t mature enough. No shame in that and completely understandable. But there’s more to it bro. You may not have really wanted it, you didn’t prep enough mentally. Idgaf what anyone says, you’re a great guy, just may not have had that grit and killer instinct. Reason the vast majority don’t make through 1st phase. The attention to detail through other phases is a different story.. That’s complete honesty. Best of luck to you and thanks again for the info.

I feel like it’s a mind game. For sure you need that grit and fitness but I’m thinking I would have hustled in the traditional term of playing as if you’re weaker than you are. This is assuming I’m physically fit enough to be an actual Seal. I might play as if I’m having a real problem in an area I’m fine with. Let the instructor pound me, make it look like I’m about to quit. Lay it on thick and pull through to where everyone is impressed I didn’t ring out. Somehow make the instructors like you at the same time and actually have a hard core attitude. It just seems like an instructor could easily push out someone worthy due to them pushing you harder than others. It seems like if they want you out, they will push you out.

What is the deal with BUDS contracts? A couple of years ago my wife was in crossfit with a young guy that enlisted on a buds contract and he was back home in about six months after he quit. As far as I can tell he was in first phase, I never got the full story. In the old days when I was in the Navy you had to have at least 4 years on your contract, I think Corpsmen even had to have 6 years, just to go to buds.
