As a guy who was an NCO and then commissioned back into my field as an officer…I will say I wish I would have started out as an officer. Good officers give a shit whether they’re prior service or not. You don’t need 4-8 years of enlisted time to figure this out. Also, this kid is focused on all the wrong things. He doesn’t strike me as being terribly resilient which is why he’s trying to control everything instead of just getting to the next right decision. Combat and combat training, in its essence, is being able to function and get to the next right decision. If I think about the finish line and only the finish line in a marathon…I’ll quit because it will seem too big of a problem to overcome. One mile marker at a time…

This dude is going to be a BM or a SEABEE with a college degree. He's ready to get after it? Be ready to get after mopping the same f****** floor about 8 times a day for about 6 months. I don't remember any officers mopping and sweeping the same P-way about 6 times and doing a thousand fashion shows. Even the ensigns. I wish this dude the best of luck. Be the best UNDES sailor you can if and when you don't get through BUDS. Don't make your shipmates pay for your decision by being a shit bag. I get it though... No one was going to tell me anything either. Had to find out the hard way.

@JakeZweig , Man I appreciate your approach not only for putting in work to become a seal, but like how to think about the going after these difficult goals and dreams. I'm in medical school now and I find your videos generally motivating for my process as well since this environment requires you sacrifice and strain through hoops and jumps to get to the final goal over many years time, and failure leaves nothing to show for it. This video really stood out to me because like enlisting and immediately becoming a seal as mentioned here, docs have an idealized pathway of 4yrs college, 4yrs medical school, and then residency, but it's not the best or most attainable pathway for everyone. I struggle with comparing myself to that standard and everyone else around me, but I see I'm neglecting what payout I expect to receive for the grind I'm enduring and for those that sacrificed for me to be here. I also got that If I'm so focused on that plan as opposed to the process of reaching the goal, I can fall to the illusion of failure with the breakdown of that plan when the plan may have been the only thing that needed to go so I could embrace the process to achieve the goal. I'm not sure everybody heard you about your personal experience through BUDS man, that because of who you were you were dished out extra unscripted and unplanned punishment with 4k on your head and you ate it to become who you are. With that said, I'd love to talk more about advice you have in going through it.
