I used to use a 2007 iMac with Windows 7 installed on it until I got my Gaming Pc back in 2019.

Great video. I have the same 2009 iMac...not long made a video about cleaning it for the first time. It is, as you say, great for documentation and movies, but sadly past its prime for much else. I just love that it still works after all these years! Running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. It's still fast for what I need it to do, and hopefully will last a few more years yet!

I use my 2008 iMac with Catalina Patcher almost daily to listen to music or watch YT in my workshop. Sure it takes a bit but it runs better then Sonoma with OpenCore wich I had before.

The white iMac is just a 2006 iMac; the iMac G5 was released in 2004 and only officially supports up to Mac OS 10.5 Leopard.

The white iMac was the iMac G5. Released in 2006 was the iMac style that appears in this video. Sorry if I didn’t make things clear haha. The white one I have is the Core duo not the core 2 duo which was introduced into the Apple ecosystem in 2006

Not confusing at all. I get it. P.S. You are wrong about El Capitan not supporting signing in with your Apple account. It does work.

Great video! I also acquired this exact spec iMac for free. Threw in an SSD and a copy of OpenCore Legacy Patcher for running macOS Monterey! Definitely chugs but far from unusable.

I love my 2010 i7. Doubtful I would want a 2009, although it would make a good jukebox. I run Ubuntu, which only cares whether the processor is 64-bit.

My man... This video is pretty good but you got a couple of points wrong, at first, Apple servers haven't changed and iCloud and App Store services still work on Mac OS versions as old as 10.6 Snow Leopard, and second, you can patch newer macOS versions to run on macs like that one, enabling them to run on the latest software version. Hope you take these into consideration and hopefully make a followup, you earned a new subscriber!
@JaydonWalter8 ай бұрын
Thank you! All those points are definitely correct but I guess I didn’t specify them enough. For instance, you can no longer create a iCloud account on macOS older than Sierra, most applications are not downloadable via the AppStore on macOS older than Monterey however there is exceptions to some applications.

Nice. Its a shame that apple puts people through such hell with older software/macs, otherwise using retro macs would be amazing.
@JaydonWalter8 ай бұрын
It really is. Putting high Sierra and up is a breeze. But the older the software the worse it is

@@JaydonWalter You could put Sonoma on it with OpenCore Patcher. It's not hard at all, it just takes forever to make a thumb drive. I did it with my mom's early 2009 iMac. I also upgraded the drive to an SSD and bumped the RAM up to 8GB. It performs surprisingly well for it's age.
@ColinsCity8 ай бұрын
It definitely needs the RAM and SSD upgrade along with opencore legacy patcher, i watch youtube videos on my 2009 17" MacBook on Monterey so it definitely works. I wish Apple didn't remove the CD/DVD drive from these so soon because the big screen is good for DVDs and also burning/ripping cds
@JaydonWalter8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the DVD and CD drives were awesome! Any machine mid 2012 and older should get an SSD upgrade. It really does help
