I've been battling acne for as long as I could remember. I was about 12 years old when it started, and now I am 21. There are times when i think my skin is getting better, but it seems to always go back to being bad again. It really destroys my self esteems because not only do i have pimples of my face, but also my chest and back. As a female of this age, I would like to wear open back/chest tops but unable to do so because of how many pimples I have in these areas and being embrassed of it. I've tried sooo many products aimed for 'oily, acne prone skin' and they seem to work for a few weeks but my skin always goes back to being bad again. Lately I decided to start my routine from scratch, and focus on hydration and soothing rather than use products with strong acne-fighting ingredients. I've seen such good results with realu, which is an australian brand, and finacea (azelaic acid). Its only been a few weeks, and I noticed the next morning that my skin is less red and irritated, my skin feels alot smoother, my hyperpigmentation has gone away much quicker, much less CCs around my cheeks and jaw, and my pimples disappear mid growth and don't fully mature. Keeping it simple and being kind to my skin has shown so much improvement.

I had acne from my teens until late 30s at 37 I decided to get the accutane because it just broke me like you it would get better than worse and just the ups and downs were the worst I think it would have been better if it was just bad all the time. Before I went on the accutane though I also decided on being kinder to my skin and started using very gentle products and focused on hydration and moisture and it helped not only with the acne but the overall look of my skin it wasn't dull and grey or inflamed even when I had breakouts. So I can ef attest to that and I guess it helped when i went on accutane because I knew what to use to fight the side effects. I'm not advocating for accutane am just saying being gentle to the skin really does work. I used Eucerine I still do and am soo happy with it still.

I had that too at 21, started around 12 also. At first I stopped all acne specific products, and started oil cleaning. The redness went immediatly. Then I stopped milk produce and wheat, and all pimples went away. Never had a real breakout since (I'm 31) and I've gone through pregancy&birth 2 years ago and that didn't even effect it.

weylie! try not washing your face too much! sometimes when you overwash your face, your face tries to overcompensate by producing more sebum which can lead to congestion and build-up/inflammation! Just try washing your face once at night after you have taken off your makeup! Use a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin and then moisturize! Check out paula's choice! Try Desert Essence tea trea oil face soap and jojoba oil as a night oil as well as Pond's Cold Cream Vitamin C moisturizer (for dry skin) and you will wake up glowing! I used to deal with cystic acne and so much texture but I realized that it was because I was overcleansing my skin. It might also be the hard water in LA too, so if you dont have a filter for your shower that might be a good idea (which could also cause back acne). Avoid washing your face in the morning, just tap in that sunscreen and your daily moisturizer and your face beat routine and you're good to go! Your skin might go through a mini purging period but afterwards it should greatly improve!! I hope this helps in the slightest bit. Also Thayers Rose Water Witch Hazel or the Face Shop Rose Water works great!! I add a smidge of ACV in there to calm down inflammation (dont use too much or you will dry out your skin) Love you to pieces!! xoxoxoxo

Hi weylie, I used to also have severe acne. I would try literally everything from high end brands to drug stores. A few products only improved my skin for a certain amount of time. The only thing that truly worked was something called Accutane, now referred to as Isotretinoin. It’s a oral pill that you take once or twice a day depending on what strength you’re on. The medication is based off of your weight. Typically patients are at only 40 mg for most of their accutane course. You have a cum dose based on your weight that providers want you to meet. The medication is a high dose of vitamin A that helps decrease the oils that your body produces. I weigh about 120 and my total course lasted about 8 months. It’s definitely worth it. You do have to see a dermatologist for it. I have suffered from severe acne for such a major part of my life. Accutane truly was the only thing that worked for me and many other patients. So I highly recommend going to a dermatologist to speak to them about Accutane. Best of luck! ❤️

I actually never broke our during high school and then suddenly when I turned 22, I suddenly got adult acne. I'm still struggling with it and no matter how bad it gets, I told myself I want to do this as natural as possible without turning to Accutane or birth pills. I've kept my skincare routine basic, started taking vitamin supplements, and I go to a dermal therapist to get herbal peels. Recently I've also gone on a gut detox diet. My skin is still up and down but I like to think it's slowly getting better now.

Hi Weylie! Ive been struggling with acne for few years now ( i had 0 acne during my teenage years) what has helped me the most was: cutting out dairy, taking a higher CFU count probiotics ( if u’ve been on antibiotics often it messed up your normal flora), Zilch supplement( it’s a traditional chinese herbal supplement for acne). I’ve also started taking Organic Olivia’s Liver juice which has helped so much especially on days i’m a bit “naughty” and indulge in fried, sugary or dairy food :x

I know what you mean about the skin. I feel like that all the time (I’ve suffered with acne since my teens and I’m now 28), but I think I’ve slowly gotten used to and dealt with the fact that my skin will probably never be smooth, acne free and flawless. I have huge pores (which I can not find a good primer/foundation to hide the fact. They minimise them but not till its smooth) and constantly have acne, sometimes less than other times but they are still there. But watching your videos as well as other youtubers who also suffer with acne has helped me a lot to make myself more confident and comfortable with my skin. Thank you ^^

Since switching to Cetaphil gentle cleanser, fragrance-free Cerave and Vanicream moisturizers combined with Curology my acne, redness, eczema and irritation has disappeared. Worth a try and affordable, too! She’s also a huge advocate of sunscreen so I’ve incorporated that into my routine as well even though I hate how it feels, I’m getting used to it! Best wishes!

Hey Weylie, I understand your frustration about wanting clear skin. For the longest time, I struggled with acne, rosacea, and uneven skin texture. I tried all of the expensive products but nothing seemed to make much of an impact. Then I started using a bentonite clay mask 3-4 times a week since I saw incredible results on my friend and grrrrrrl am I so thankful I did. My skin basically did a 180° and for the past year I have been confident enough with my skin that I have not worn any foundation or powder ... no joke. I typically mix bentonite clay powder with apple cider vinegar and leave the mixture on for 10 minutes then rinse in the shower at night. The apple cider vinegar can be a bit much for most people and does increase the blood circulation on your epidermis so don't be scared if your face is a little red after. You can also mix the clay with water as well if you have sensitive skin. Hope you try it out and that it helps, it has been my miracle product!

I've always had acne since middle school and every routine never worked and then I used proactiv which worked somewhat but I would break out horribly towards the end of the bottle. I am 24 now, pregnant with my second child and I just stopped all skin care I went to a simple normal skin bar cleanser with 2% salicylic acid (one that does not leave my skin tight or leave a residue) a super basic fragrance free moisturizer with spf (cetaphil) and that is it. No spot treatments, no toners, no fancy stuff and also my makeup I just wear the same foundation that I have used for 5 years that doesnt break me out because my skin is so sensitive it does not like change. And now my skin is clear...I feel like the over abundance of products we use and the stress of a cleansing routine actually is worse for our skin. Or the constant testing of new products and new makeup. Just because a product says it's natural doesnt actually mean it's good for your skin and now I know, less like way way WAY less is definitely more. I was just over spending so much money and time and stress on my face that I just wanted to wash my face in the shower, moisturize with my makeup and start my day and me just giving up finding that perfect skin care routine is what made me find my perfect skin care routine. For reference I have super sensitive, fair, combination skin.

Hey girl, I feel you on the acne struggle. I've had acne since I went through puberty (~ 13) and it was rough. My dermatologist prescribed me Retin-A (Tretinoin) cream when I was 15 and it cleared up my skin until I turned 24. The first 3 years of using the cream were tough due to the painful purging and scarring, but it was so worth it. Around when I turned 25, I started getting hormonal acne around my jaw line, mostly pimples under the skin that would fill up and just never go away. My derm increased the percentage of Retin-A cream, and I went through the purging all over again. It was so hard going through it again especially thinking back on the previous years of having clear skin. Now I am 26, and my skin is clear once again. I will never stop using Retin-A because it seriously has changed my skin for the better. I still get period pimples once in a while, but nothing like I went through before. I HIGHLY recommend you look into retinoids/retinol. Tretinoin is highly irritating and prescription only, but most effective. Retinoids and retinol are gentler, but results take longer. The Ordinary makes really good ones that are not irritating and super affordable. I also cut sugar out of my diet. It is important to be aware of added sugar because those are the hidden sugars we sometimes forget we are consuming. Keep your chin up, you'll get through it! And just know, so many of us have been through the same struggle, and we are here for you!!

Awh weylie. You’re so real and beautiful... I struggled with acne too. I struggled the most last year like never before and it really affected how I felt about life and myself which made me feel ridiculous. I felt like i had tried everythinggg... I would look up reviews and stuff over products, and I finally just went to a dermatologist and it saved me. Insurance covered the topicals and she recommended me a pill and I was hesitant, but I did it and now I’m slowly going off of it and continuing to use topicals. Topicals: Aczone (for acne) and Differin (for dark spots) Pill: Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800 I highly recommend dermatologists! I trust them since it’s their career and it really really helped me financially and in my skin because I didn’t have to just buy a random product hoping it would work... fighting Weylie!! Love you 💕
