As a fire lookout, you expect to spend your days high above the trees, scanning the horizon for signs of smoke and danger. But for this individual, their job took a terrifying turn when they discovered something sinister lurking in the woods near Tower 14. From the strange noises and unsettling whispers to the eerie and inexplicable sights, everything pointed to an ancient evil that had been awakened by their presence.

I do enjoy these wilderness stories. The story title got the MC's job title correct as they were a fire lookout and not a park ranger. These days fire lookouts are getting rarer and rarer as they shut down watch towers in favor of drones. It is starting to be that the fire lookout is the most unrealistic part of these stories.

@@havuuuu I feel u, ik that feeling when you realize your hearing footsteps and the only thing you know that is like yourself is running, leaving you behind with whatever you encountered causes you to instantly start running out of fear of what might happen or just out of fear that what you saw was not of this world and it was evil.

Edible wild mushrooms are notoriously difficult to distinguish from their poisonous brethren, that coupled with the unknown chirality of an alien ecosystem sugests that maybe, just maybe, this particular ranger's experiance was of a different kind of trip. 🤔

Remember kids, if you see a strange arch. Take a picture but don't go inside. If the protagonist has a desire to eat vermin, maybe he should get a job as an exterminator. Sometimes they wear bulky clothing. No one will care if he brings his work home to eat Kudos.
