Mabuhay! 🇵🇭 🇵🇭 🇵🇭 🚴‍♂️✨
I had the pleasure of chatting with Gab, a fellow rider from the Philippines who recently visited Singapore with his pride and joy - a Trek Emonda that he crafted with inspiration from Rides of Japan's own sleek machine.
Now, Gab isn't just any cyclist; he proudly wears the title of a "weight-weenie." To prove it, he meticulously documented the weight of every single part of his Trek Emonda, creating a detailed Excel sheet that's a weight-conscious cyclist's dream. But here's the twist - even with all his dedication, Gab's disc brake-equipped bike still tips the scales at over 7kg.
In the pursuit of shedding every ounce possible, Gab took the daring step of stripping the original paint from his bike, revealing a jaw-dropping raw carbon finish. And just to make sure it stays pristine, he added a layer of lacquer. The burning question now is: How much lighter can a disc brake bike get, especially with a paint job sacrificed in the name of weight reduction?
But it's not all about the numbers - Gab is a proud Team EF fan, right down to his matching Crocs. However, when it comes to his ride, he throws a curveball by cruising on a Trek Segafredo team bike. The loyalty runs deep, and we get all the details on this unique blend of team spirit in this week's episode.
Curious to know more? Tune in exclusively on the Oompa Loompa Cycling KZbin and Spotify channels for Gab's journey, the nitty-gritty of his bike build, and the surprising team loyalty twist.
Don't forget to drop your thoughts on Gab's Trek Emonda in the comments section below!

It just depends I’m also a covid cyclist I started with a 1.9k cad trek domane for two years then I bought a madone slr 2019 rim brake frame that’s on sale for 3.2k and swapped out the parts with winspace hyper wheels sram red mechanical group set full build like 6k cad, it’s good to actually take time to understand and know this industry and pricing.

@@TaihakiI'm riding a 6.8 kg five hundred dollar Supersix Evo HM. CRAZY to spend 5k+ for a disc brake bike just to get back to 6.8 kg. I even have stock heavy bar, stem, seatpost, saddle, and not even dura ace pedals (have those on another bike). I could easily drop 200 grams with a light wheelset as well.

@@ShadowboostLol my 2019 emonda SLR that's disc is sub 6.8 and I got it for 1500 dollars. Would be lighter if I ran dura ace instead of ultegra too...

Nice looking bike, but pretty heavy for a "weight weenie". Gotta get sub 6.8 at least! Could spend less and save more weight with different bar/stem and saddle alone

Why not get the Emonda SLR frame if you're a true weight weenie. The SL frame is a bit heavier than the SLR.

I think there's still some weight savings from applying the clear coat layer after removing the paint, and I really like the UD raw carbon look. He can be a weightweenie because he keeps tabs on component weight, just that he is easily satisfied with his eventual bike weight.

My 2024 trek domane alr 2 weighs less than than. Sure I did a few mods but, it was cheap. It has scram rival axes and some cheap carbon rims. I don't understand why his bike is so heavy
