I think that Singed knocks out Silco for the same reason that doctors order family members out of the operating room. There is nothing they can do to help even though they desperately want to help. A family member is an emotional, illogical, second guessing pain in the ass to have around when you are trying to do what needs to be done in order to save a life.

@timhaldane7588 2 ай бұрын
Bingo. "She won't die, doctor. She can't," is just a long way of saying, no, he is not prepared to lose her. Silco can no longer imagine life without her, and chances are very good he will find it unbearable to see her suffer. Singed is sharp enough to have anticipated that problem, and prepared accordingly. On a related note, I love how often Arcane shows characters reveal their insecurities by projecting them onto others. When Silco tells Jinx she needs to stop letting the fear of loss control her, he's revealing his own greatest "weakness".

@@timhaldane7588yep, singed reveals he has a daughter to us in that moment but it also explains his actions. Singed knows that it would be very difficult for Silco to watch what Singed would have to do to save Jinx. In the same way, Singed knows if it were his daughter he would struggle too which is why it is a mercy for him to knock out Silco

Not to mention Singed wasn't going to simply put her out and operate her, but rather induce her with crazy juice and make her experiment inmense pain, so yeah, Silco would have gotten in the way and maybe even end up preventing Singed from saving Jinx

Viktor was out of shimmer and his second experience with the hexcore was going to fail, killing him. Sky's intervention saved his life but at the cost of hers. She's turned to ashes, like the plants in episode 6.

Technically, the hexcore used her as the catalyst to change his right arm...so does that make her his right-hand woman?

Mel is such an interesting character. She was raised in a warmongering "kill or be killed" family and has probably seen a lot. She was banished for showing mercy and conscience. It seems she embraced the fox-part of herself in exile. She is all about strategy, about deals and pulling strings. Unlike her mother she doesn't rely on brute force but on intelligence. She was pursuing weaponproduction to scare the undercity, not to use them. But her mom is right. "Weapons can't be unmade, and they are always used." So now Mel has to decide whether she wants to follow her Moms footsteps in being an aggressor And regarding Jinx, she is so so loved by two opposite ends, that it seems to tear her apart

I love the "oh no, she's right" look on Mel's face when Ambessa says that. One of the greatest dangers of escalation ladders isn't just tit-for-tat escalation but that on each side the current level of escalation becomes normalized, easing the way to further escalation. Ambessa gave Mel a reality check that helped her realize she'd slipped from her ideals.
@Morbacounet

It's interesting that Ambessa (Mel's mom) influenced both Jayce and Mel but in opposite ways. Mel was pushing Jayce to make weaponry to protect the city, shifting away from her fox stance. "Weapons can't be unmade and they are always used". Mel knows Ambessa's right and she goes back to her fox stance : negotiate with the Undercity. Jayce is completely lost. He has no experience in politics, he doesn't know what to do and he feels guilty for failing to protect the city. Ambessa and Vi offer him a easy way to vent his frustration and he does, killing a kid.
@timhaldane7588
@timhaldane7588 2 ай бұрын
That's one of the things I like most about Jayce. One the one hand, he's got an innate talent for politics because he's charismatic and great at improvising compelling arguments. On the other hand, he is easily swayed because he lacks a clear long-term vision and naively follows the advice of others who may or may not share his same goals or ideals. And because the thing he wants the most is to be a hero, he get eaten up by guilt every time his decisions turn out poorly, and he ends up overcompensating. He's a great character study in why even "good people" sometimes end up doing terrible things. In short, he's the living embodiment of "gifted kid syndrome", and boy is it ever relatable.

A detail all the reactors I've watched seem to miss, since they're justifiably distracted by the rest of the scene: When Jayce showed off his gauntlets to Heimerdinger, they shook and spasmed and twitched, as if he didn't know how to use them or they were barely operating correctly. When Vi slides them on this episode, they move smoothly, are still and stable unless she needs them to flex to use their magic, and Vi instantly controlls them almost as well as her actual hands. Jayce DID listen to Heimerdinger and continued to perfect the gauntlets off screen so they'd be safer when he finally had time to mass produce them.

I massively respect the creators of the show for having the balls to give us the big, setpiece fight that fans of League of Legends had been wanting this whole time... and then yank the legs right out from under us with the very real collateral damage that such a battle would legitimately cause. As for enslaving them... no. They're not slaves. They were given a way to help provide for their families. This is a job for them, which lets their families live a better life. And here the enforcers come, barging in to take what little they have away from them. They aren't worried about the fact that it is making a deadly drug, this is their livelihood. It is a masterstroke to set things up like this, leaving the enforcers to reinforce their status for the undercity as villains.

16:30 Very few grasp on first viewing how single-minded and single-method Vi can be, and how much that costs her and everyone around her. It's easy to admire someone so certain of themselves, so direct in their expression--even when their direction is certainly not in anyone's best interest, even their own. Jayce may be the one with the hammer, but Vi is the one who sees nothing but nails.

Holy cow, out of all the reactors I've watched, you're probably the only one to call out Vi's rashness at the council. Pretty much everyone else cheers her on even though not even a minute earlier in the scene, they're agreeing with Mel that war should be the last resort.
@stellakeil96
@stellakeil96 2 ай бұрын
Totally! I always felt that this presentation at the council could have gone a lot better if Vi and Caitlyn had talked more about how they would approach the situation and if they had a common strategy based on the same ideas of peace and justice. It just seems weird that Cait criticizes Jayce for wanting to attack and a few moments later Vi bashes the council for wanting to negotiate with Silco. Unity looks different

There are two unconventional love triangles in this season, one for Vi (Jinx vs. Caitlin) and one for Jinx (Vi vs Silco).

One thing you didn’t touch on in either your reaction or discussion is how pivotal the Vi / Caitlyn relationship is, especially in regards to Jinx and both of Vi and Caitlyn's reactions. Jinx would not be there at the end if Vi and Caitlyn didnt care for each other. It's one of the key strands of the story, which is shown when Jinx is being treated and she hallucinates Caitlyn and Vi.

The problem is the show wants their relationship to be pivotal to the plot but it's buried in subtext so deeply that most straight watchers miss it entirely.

Glad you're so invested in this show. It's great to see a professional writer recognize and validate all the things we fans have been raving about - the deep characterization, the excellent story structure, the smart misdirects, the phenomenal animation, the spectacular music.... Arcane truly is a one-of-a-kind accomplishment.

[15:48] We're just so primed by media and pop culture to expect people to behave selfish and for her to use this as a pretense for an offensive action, that it comes as a surprise when she actually really means simply means what she said. Ask yourself, when has she ever actually said anything that would contradict what she says in this scene. If you find anything, feel free to post it here, I don't think she ever did. She wanted for Jayce to "prepare (their) own countermeasures" and that she asked him to "prepare to defend (his) people". Arcane is very good at subverting our expectations this way, though in that case it was admittedly pretty heavy handed (by Arcane standards).

In the beginning Vi was obsessed with revenge on the Enforcers and Piltover for how they have been treated and the death of her parents without any regard for others safety. And now after finding out her sister was still alive and working for Silco, she's obsessed with revenge against him, still without any regard for the safety of others. Silco, from the first time we met him, was obsessed with "getting respect" from Piltover by any means necessary, and without any regards for the safety of others. And now he understands that revenge and his commitment to create the nation of Zaun would come at a cost.

Point about Viktor "taking a life"... He was experimenting on himself, in his lab, which was locked. Of course he would blame himself, but he took precautions and endangered only himself. He is pretty much entirely blameless in Sky's death. Narratively, it's interesting. The Hexcore seems to learn through absorption. It took in a drop of blood and then "understood" living creatures. Having consumed a thinking person, it would be interesting to see if it becomes more sapient, and if it uses Sky to build that sapience. Yet another Zaunite to be haunted by a ghost, but this one from the machine rather than his own mind.

Hello WR, here's a fun little challenge for you, which I hope you will include doing EP9 credits. Can you guess all 9 playable League of Legends characters? You may or may not have thought about it, in the past few episodes but... A good few of the characters in the show are playable characters in the game LoL. The Wizard in EP2 does not count, as we do not know if it truly is _ _ _ _ or not.

One of the very early animation tests they did before the show even got the green light to be made was a fight scene between Jayce and Vi, so of course the two of them had to get one of the best fights in the season as a nod to that
@j.f.fisher5318
@j.f.fisher5318 2 ай бұрын
I view the Animation Test as a training scene that was cut as they were getting ready to go to invade the Undercity. Which is the real reason Jayce can fight with the hammer not just muscles and blacksmithing which doesn't teach the really important stuff about fighting like defense, movement, timing, and distance.
