Shuichi can feel the spirals because he has been outside of town, he knows other towns aren't as weird as Kurouzu. Kirie doesn't really feel anything weird because she lived there her whole life.

It’s rotoscoped over actors, and going off the credits it seems they used 3D layouts too. But naturally this still means heavy adjustment to what you’re drawing, as the actors performing the basis of the movement likely share little to no likeness with the characters, leaving much correction for the fairly small staff team. Work like this often requires constant back and forth correction, especially in the inbetweening department. If the lines drawn aren’t consistent enough they’ll slide so much out of place that it’ll be jarring, and when you have characters with this many lines per frame it becomes a nightmare for every cut of animation. It’s a project that’s had an unsteady production with many delays since initial announcement due to various circumstances, and struggle in achieving the vision wanted by director. Though it seems the final product has come out with a great result so far.

@@christianhowell3140 the fact that everything is so fast paced adds up to the experience in my opinion, it feels weird, like something off. If the pacing were to be slower it will kinda lose that feeling.
@christianhowell31408 сағат бұрын
@@symkoi yeah I DO actually like the fast pace for the same reasons, I ALSO just feel like it'd be even more impactful if it had more of a "ramping up" period. Then again, there's something to be said about just being smothered by it from start to finish that's pretty neat

As someone who hasn’t read the book yet, I actually can’t wait to go read it after these 4 episodes. I really enjoyed this pilot episode, the pacing was jarring the first 12 minutes but after the dad’s death it started settling in. It reminds me of the Taiwanese movie “The Sadness” with just how quick things can get out of control
@christianhowell31408 сағат бұрын
@@pr0x1madigital also it pushes that feeling that things are spiraling outta control. kinda wished they saved this kinda breakneck pacing for the later episodes tho. Like if this episode alone was split into two at the funeral scene, I feel like it would've been perfect

This first episode was amazing!!! The only downside is four episodes of regular length is too few to adapt the entire manga. So we're basically gonna get a summarized version of it. That being said, the artstyle is very authentic to Junji Ito's artwork. The rotoscope aspect is a bit uncanny which is actually a great choice. That whole process must have been a pain to animate. No wonder it took five years.
@HitomiNoRyu4 сағат бұрын
And considering the things that happen near the end of the manga? Animators can take ALL the time they need! If they need 3-5 years to make 4 episodes at a time, GIVE THEM THE TIME AND THE MONEY!
@cake94309Сағат бұрын
I hope they make things flow better in the next 3 episodes because I found the cuts and changes kind of jarring. When you compare the anime to the manga, you will see almost an entire chapter worth of stuff just cut

I read Uzumaki a long time ago, before the internet was a big thing and before KZbin became famous. My first impression was, "Who the heck wrote this? Eww!" I imagined the author as someone with a creepy face, weird, introverted, maybe a hikikomori, with messy long hair, and not very talkative. Turns out, he’s well-dressed, has short hair, and was even a dentist! Then my mind was like, "Even though he looks put together, his mind must be a mess-he must be a psychopath! Yeahh I'm sure" Sorry, Junji Ito

its not your typical jumpscare/creepy kind of story, its leaning more towards actual paranormal/supernatural. Supernatural is not meant to be explainable, its supernatural - the moment we understand something its just natural. Uzumaki and Junji Itos work are either paranormal/supernatural. While most people tend to find meaning behind them - like for example some fans believe Uzumaki is meant to symbolize Nuclear Fallout or Radiation - Junji Ito is most likely just referencing human condition. You see it more obvious on his Tomie series.
