Funny I was rewatching this after shooting a few in North Norfolk yesterday. My first 8 with lead dropped them all on the sport but the next 20 with Ely steel saw about half hard really hit but the went flying on. Maybe they dropped out of sight on the neighbours farm but I couldn't find any where I was when clearing up. Could be woeful shooting as I haven't been out enough but the difference was noticeable. I also found that both guns I was using had incredibly dirty (hard to clean barrels) with what looked almost like motor oil in the barrels, particularly at the muzzle. In my 20+ years shooting in the UK I've never had such filthy barrels even when shooting on the few double gun days I've been to. The cartridges were Ely 32gm 5's which have been sitting in my attic for 24 months, something that could be a factor but its dry, if a bit chilly. Will take out some Just Cartridges Pigeon loads next week to see if there's much of a difference.

Hello Rob, family and friends I hope you are all well. If you are allowed to tell, what hide poles do you use? The ones I have bought in the past seem to fall apart after a short time. The locking screws don't stay locked and the plastic hooks at the top of the pole snap very easily. Thank you. Take care and stay safe everyone. Tim W, England.

Good choice of cartridge Rob, the Eleys are consistent in quality and good value price wise. I put them through my trusty Miroku o/u which is choked 1/4 & 3/8. Ditch the priest and put a decent stick in with the hide pole's, invaluable when gathering runners. 👍

7/8 or 1 oz of 8, 71/2 or 6 shot in 20. 1oz to 1 1/4oz of the same sizes in the 12. Usually a modified or full choke depending on how they decoy. I started experimenting with 1oz to 1 1/6oz of steel 4s as well.

Is there a specific reason you do not use a crow call? Also: Winchester SX4, improved modified and whatever high velocity 2,7-3mm shells I grabbed that morning.
@fergaldelaney2547 ай бұрын
I believe it's illegal to use an electronic crow caller in the UK. I'm in Ireland but open to correction, as that's what I think I've heard in other videos from some other channels

Another great video that encourage shooters! I am following your videos, Rob for long time. What I do not understand is why in your area SilloSocks decoys work OK but in Kent (where I am usually shooting) many crows and jackdaws often get scared and fly away w/o coming to the range??? Any idea/hint? I did not see anything you did differently to me!
@Mr16Bore7 ай бұрын
You didn’t see anything differently but I bet the crows did. Nothing wrong with the decoys but if the crows see you first….. Lots of field craft here. Speedy has learned when to move and how to move. He also dresses like a piece of hedge so has an advantage straight away. 😂
@fieldsportswithspeed7 ай бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying the videos and they are helping you mate! 👍 it’s very hard for me to say but they are potentially seeing you in the hide? Next time you’re in the hide and they are doing the same, let a couple come In without shooting them. Sit dead still below the netting and see if they come any closer. Send me a message and let me know the results bud 👍 will be happy to help
@hasmatros98557 ай бұрын
@@fieldsportswithspeed many thanks for the response, Rob! 🙏 No, no, I am sure they can not see me behind the net. I am all in camo, even put balaclava on the top of camo cap to cover majority of face - so just glasses, usually black sunglasses. Yep, thats exactly the way I was thinking - sitting w/o moving & waching the craw approaches... It looks like they saw decoys, mainly sillosocks with few half-body plactic ones and spotting something wrong.... I suspected it is white cellophane inside sillosocks, but you have similar... 🤔 May I ask you if you come to the same fields twice/triple times with 1-2 weeks in between? Maybe I aducate the birds in the area, they are smart!??!

I have spoken to Basc prior and because of the contamination and disease risk of the dairy unit next door, this is a valid way of pest control to reduce the numbers of corvids.
