@@jcristina Three years is too long. Signed up for $99, jacked up to $110 immediately and then $120, all while service is unreliable - sometimes downright terrible speeds during prime hours. They downgraded the advertised plans/minimum speeds, but they still aren't meeting these new, lower standards. They keep promising more satellites for better service, but I'm getting impatient. If T-Mobile opens up to me before Starlink drops the monthly subscription, I'll be moving on. I'd prefer to stay on Starlink to retain connection redundancy (my cellular service is with T-Mobile), but I'm paying a premium for service that isn't consistently better than my old DSL. Ugh.

The money is in the monthly subscriptions It’s to their advantage to make the price of their equipment cheaper or say free with a minimum subscription A lot of people can not afford a 200 to 500 dollars for the privilege to receive a monthly subscription service The main revenue comes from the monthly subscriptions fees

I live in Jamaica, which is on the hurricane belt, so I got StarLink a year ago to backup my fiber network. I am so glad I did, because hurricane Beryl hit us taking out a good portion of our electric grid and network infrastructure. As of today, it has been 27 days now that I have lost my landline, cable and internet. although cell service was restored a couple of weeks ago, it still feels like we are on 3g network...I have seen the price drop in my monthly bill, and I may end up purchasing another kit to help out my family members that's outside of the cell and broadband coverage area, especially if the equipment cost has gone down. Thank you for always keeping us informed.

Just ordered it for my dad a few days ago for 199. Supposed to arrive tomorrow. Here in Southern Idaho, internet is expensive and slow. He has been paying $130 per month for almost 20 years to get 1.5mbps DSL through CenturyLink. I finally convinced him to switch to Starlink last week. To be honest 120 per month isnt THAT bad considering the infrastructure that had to be put into place to make it work. Broadband in my part of the country is insanely expensive. I live in town and pay $90 per month for 300MB/s cable internet and i have a 700GB data cap, and get charged $10 per 100gb when i go over. It's ridiculous but it's literally the best deal around my area.... I have friends that live in urban areas that say they pay 40-50 bucks a month and have gigabit speeds with no data cap. Holy shit, I wish!

Last month I picked up the mini to use on a houseboat at Lake Powell and Lake Don Pedro and even used it at Rubicon Springs in the middle of nowhere on the way through Rubicon 4x4 trail. If you already have Starlink at home it was only $30 more monthly. There is a fixed amount of GB then a charge if you use more. So nice to stay connected when that remote. One man camped nearby had his Dad go into the hospital just before leaving who was recovering from a stroke, he was able to check in with him. It is well worth $360/yr even if its only used a hand full of times in remote locations for emergencies, work and/or family. I've already used it 20 days and have 15 more days planned so that's approximately $10/day. Less than the airlines charge for connectivity on flights for a few hours.

I'm currently in Mexico using Starlink, it's already like $65/month for service down here. If Starlink is knocking down the price even more, i would be even happier. Speaking of Mexico, I had read that Starlink was collaborating with Mexico's CFE to bring internet to the most rural of places. The current and soon outgoing government of President AMLO has been bringing free internet to the poorest communities. There I was with my family visiting this small town up in the mountains of Oaxaca. We stopped to get some snacks and drinks at a local shop. I looked at my phone to see if I had any service when I notice I'm connected to WiFI. So I go to my phone's settings to see what WiFi i'm connected to and its showing Starlink. I'm like miles away from MY Starlink, so i'm a lil confused. I step out onto the street and start looking around to see if there's a home with Starlink, and lo and behold, I spot a Starlink dish attached to a light pole with a sign from CFE stating it's free internet for the community.

SL shouln't be an alternative to fiber. For people in rural areas where landline providers tell is to use dial-up, or WISP providers can't provide more than 5Mbps speeds, SL is great at only $120. Launching all those satellites costs a lot more money than laying cables in utility easements. There are plenty of providers in cities that charge under $50 per month for gigabit fiber internet, because fiber is low maintenance. Any fiber providers charging $120 per month are either trying to expand service area quickly, or making big profit like Xfinity, or maybe they dropped a lot of fiber way out to a community (very lucky) and want to make that money back. Once that fiber line is laid, it is good unless physically damaged (mark before you dig), increasing its capacity from 1gbit to 400gbit is possible with today's technology, and it will be compatible with whatever speeds they get up to 30 years from now.

Well this past Month moved my Starlink first release to the Campground we stayed at for 2 weeks and it was flawless. In my area in Canada we are pretty open in the Western Provinces so no worry in moving it about. Was really great moving my home office to a gem of a Provincial campground in the mountains of BC! Just entered address change both times and about 15-20 minutes I was up and running about how long it took me to setup dishy.

Early in July South Australia had the V4 StarLink kit temporarily reduced to $233.00 USD and a further $39.00 USD off my 2nd months subscription, through third party retailers, i have been watching you videos and finally dived in, so glad i did. Thanks J.C, and Elon. edit- for reference ongoing monthly fee for unlimited data here in South Australia is currently $90.50 USD, or $139.00 AUD.

It's still $499 in my area West Alabama, and still $120 per month, no perks for loyalty is no positive news here. Ordered 8/16/2021 got a Gen 2 ,total out of pocket was $655.91 with a supposed $99 per month when I ordered it. Waited till 10/3/2022 for it, went up to $110 before i even got it, 8 months later it went to $120. Put a bad taste in my mouth all the way around. I'm still fluctuating on speeds, just tested on the phone app at 89 down and 18 up, laptop on Ookla says 111/22, probably averaging110-130 with a little over 20 up consistently. Pop's in Atlanta, I'm sure I need to tweak things, it's been awhile But trust me as soon as something better comes along I'll probably be outta here! Btw I still live in the sticks so I'm stuck for the time being.

Makes a lot of sense. Based on my experience with prepaid cellular networks dating back to the late 90's, the first users were the top middle class, then the prices went down as the market were saturated.. Now, as we all know SpaceX plans to put up many more Starlink satellites to cover the entire planet, and prices will drop even more once the target is reached.. Hope Elon would think of us South Africans in the course of this venture, I'm patiently waiting. Oh, and by that time the price should be competitive so even I would be able to afford a dish..🙂

Thanks for the information. We live in Central Florida and have the Gen 2 on a roam service for our RV, but would love to see if we can add a new gen system for use at a fixed location. I wonder how you would do that having two different dishes and routers on the same plan? Think I would have to set up another plan for the home service?

I'd gladly pay $199 for the standard dish if the monthly was $69. I pay $67/mo. for 250 mbps for Fiber. It often goes up much higher. It doesn't make sense to increase monthly cost by 45% just because. If I was rural, then things would be different.

Sure that’s great and all, but I was never really worried about that upfront “ONE TIME” equipment fee(keeps the congestion down a bit too). It’s the monthly fee that hurts my wallet. I have paid that original $599 cost almost 7x over since I have had the system. That’s about $4,000 in sub cost, in just a little over 2 years😳(of course I am currently a roam customer). It’s what most companies do anyways. Give you the equipment cheap or free and then rake it in via service costs. It’s not a new concept.

Live on a boat. $2500 for the dish and 200per month. It went up to $400 so I moved to a $250 per month package that is pretty much useless because you can’t turn on or off priority data. The price and the huge power it needs to run means I went back to cell at $60 per month. I couldn’t justify the power and cost. Too bad really.

Wish they would reduce the monthly bill. In my remote rural area (mountains of E. TN) they've recently installed fiber! It's not operational yet but it promises to be cheaper than 120/month. I wonder if this is a federal program aimed at undermining Starlink and Elon Musk. Hmmm.

While I like to save money, if they lower the price and start getting bunch of city dwellers switching over from landbased internet tech, that will slow down SL service. Adding capacity is a vastly different cost for the providers. SL has to pay millions to launch a few dozen new satellites. Any fiber provider can upgrade the capacity of a single fiber cable from 10gbit to 100gbit for just a few thousand dollars. On customer lines, anything under 10gbit is either just a few hundred dollars, or a simple config change because the equipment was in place years ago.

I was on the waiting list for years and ended up paying $699 about a year and a quarter ago, the first month they raised the price to $120, the price for upgrading their router to version 3 is $250. Is it cheaper to get a whole new system for less than the price of upgrading to a new router??

Kind of nice but I was expecting to see a discount on the 'roam' version. That would be really cool. Now, the serious big dish is almost 3x cheaper than the small 'toy' backpack version which is odd. I travel sometimes and do some dispersed camping so this would be more like a nice addition rather than the residential version. I currently have residential LTE from T-Mobile and pay $30 so that's hard to beat. Not as fast as fiber or cable but good enough for a family of 4 and the equipment was free. Spending around $200 on something which can be considered an overlanding expense is OK but around $500 is still too much for my wife to let me do it.
