Yup during there feud a lot of his fans kept calling the rock a sell out and I would tell those fools, if Cena's move the Marine would of been a box office hit then he would of been left for Hollywood and ended up a part timer too but they said nope he would be wrestling for life lmao Every wrestler would be a part timer if they had a box office hit the problem is 99% of them don't have box office hits and they ended up going down the straight to dvd movie route which is fine but that route doesn't allow them to be a part timer

John Cena looked at the situation from his side of it, he just saw what Rock was doing and interpreted it as : _"Him not caring about wrestling anymore"_ but he (Cena), didn't take into account that he (Dwayne), was done with wrestling. That part of his career was already finished, so he felt there was no reason to go back if he had nothing else to prove. I liked how Cena finally saw the light, and admitted he was wrong for criticizing Dwayne the way he did.

Dwayne is a lot of things, but the more I have seen of him, the more he strikes me as a guy who will ultimately do the right thing for the business because he loves the business.

Gotta respect Cena's intelligence. He can see things from the other side. When Rock came back he cut this blazing promo and then all of a sudden he reigned it in and Cena started taking pot shots at him. Rock kept engaging as a performer reciprocally to entertain the fans while Cena broke the 4th wall to one-up him. Nevertheless, Cena always looked a million bucks and the strength of his character has made him a superstar. You only ever hear good things about Cena backstage aside from that stuff with Nexus. If you're as smart and talented as he is, your own conviction will sometimes supersede due practice or respect to one's own detriment.

Roman did it with Cena, now Roman wants to get into the acting world and is part time now, with Seth getting on him about it. Now you have Seth getting into acting with Captain 4 which is a small part but he said he want to do more acting so now you have AJ styles even though it was scripted talk about Seth being gone. For anyone who doesn’t know what John is talking about during that time, it’s specifically the “nice tattoo” promo. The rock went on tv with promo notes written on his wrist a couple nights prior, which is a no-no in the industry IF, you’re a regular, which at the time John was, but the rock was obviously part time, so they let it slide. Instead of going to the rock and pitching the idea of going at him for it, John just went for it, and you can see in the promo, the rock is seeeeeething

This brings an interesting perspective to what we understand as 'heel turns', as I always thought one of the elements of wrestling that needed suspended disbelief more than most was the idea that a guy at any moment's notice can go from being the good guy to the bad guy. However, Cena is one of the biggest babyfaces in WWE history, and here is himself admitting to, in real life, making decisions and saying things which made him feel like a bad person in the situation, which goes to show the idea of 'turning heel' maybe isn't so unbelievable after all. Despite the death of kayfabe, I love the fact that being able to dissect the wrestling business in this manner shows how much truth can be behind all the 'magic'.

Cena was younger then, and at that time.....was still caught up in the notion that ring-life goes on forever. The segment between Rock and Cena in Boston was the best part of the build for me. Rock looked visibly frustrated, and the Boston crowd were 100% behind Cena as he is the hometown boy. Cena has nothing to regret here. Wrestling/Sports Entertainment is best when laced with reality

@@SmellTheCanvis nah he clearly didn’t win them over you need to watch the segment again. Rock was trying to be serious and cena was getting goofy. Rock was trying to sell the match as important. Cena was doing what he does making a moment that was suppose to be serious moment a sitcom moment. That’s why guys like rock and stone cold and hogan will always be way better than cena they don’t do that crap when it’s time to sell a big time match
@HulkVahkiin
@HulkVahkiin Жыл бұрын
@@pleaseshutup7053 Just rewatched the segment, definitely won the crowd over with cheers at the end. I'm not sure if you realize this, but there are a lot of other ways to sell a match besides being serious and intense, a lot of times The Rock makes jokes like Cena, but the difference is he is in a serious tone, take all that and there really isn't a difference on what these two are doing in their promos besides character work. You generalize that Cena will always be lesser because Cena is ''goofy'' in serious moments, you clearly ignore all the amazing serious segments Cena has had over the years, and in this feud, especially when he suffered his first loss against The Rock and gone on a redemption angle. I mean I agree there are many times Cena needed to act serious for the moment instead of being goofy, and it flat out irritated me a times too, but this wasn't one of those moments.

The facts he spent sooo much time on this one topic, you know he’s very sincere. At that time I had no idea why John was digging the rock like that, cause he was already doing tv shows and Cameos ect at that time 😅 like bro what ? He can’t love more than one thing ? And the rock had been in tv damn near as long as wrestling so it was actually a normal Segway for him to go to Hollywood. He was always more than a wrestler, he was untouchable on that mic ! I’m so happy to see johns growth over the years

His perspective mightve been wrong, but I don't think Cena was necessarily wrong for saying it, it was showmanship for the sake of selling tickets at the end of the day. just maybe he could've communicated with the Rock beforehand what he was gonna say and any tension couldve been avoided.

Its great to hear how John has grown as a person. End of the day you must remember that being a company man is ok theres nothing wrong with that but at the end of the day you gotta ask yourself would the company back you in times of need. If the answer is no then you need to reflect. Footballers or any athlete has only one career and to progress sometimes they need to jump from a sinking ship and land at the big club that wants them. Thats not selling out, thats achieving your potential. True fans understand this.

I always find it funny when wrestling fan boys get all emotional with hate, whenever a star leaves and only works part time. Do those fools really think that it's good for 40+ year old to keep putting there body through hell every day just for the entertainment for us? Fools be wanting wrestlers to be like Ric Flairs age still wrestling from time to time. When that feud happened, remember going at it with some Cena fans lol they called the rock a sell out. I told those derps that if Cena's first big movie the marine, if it was a box office hit, HE WOULD OF BEEN LEFT WWE and ended up becoming a part time way back then. Like the rock said, he didn't NEED WWE but the WWE NEEDED him. Cena NEEDED WWE because his movie career hadn't picked up yet. He would still be wrestling now if his movie career didn't pick up and it's hard for hardcore fans to understand why certain people go part time. It's rinse and repeat cycle because then you started having Roman Reigns hating on Cena for being part time but now look at him lmao Roman is part time now and he wants to do the movies. NOW look at who's getting on Roman for being part time, you have Seth Rollins getting on him BUT now look at Seth Rollins getting a small part in Captain America 4. Fools don't realize if Seth gets more acting jobs then HIM TOO will be gone too. You can only put your body through so much in wrestling at a certain age. I'm just glad that Cena apologized publicly to the rock back when he did the Transformers bubble bee movie and even now he still talks about it. Yes wrestling will be there number 1 but if they can make it in Hollywood then that will always be a better option that won't have major impact on there body like wrestling does. I'm sorry but even though I enjoy seeing older wrestlers make appearances from time to time, it's still kind of cringe seeing some older wrestler who struggles walking to the ring, still trying to wrestler only because we think it's cool but at the end of the day they would never be in that position if WWE wasn't there ONLY financial option

Honestly, that's kind of how I saw it at the time. It really felt like John didn't think Rock was lying as much as he was simply jealous that he didn't have the same success outside of the WWE. John's comments always felt disingenuous even if he didn't know they were back then. That being said, I'm glad John has now had similar success and I'm even happier than he can admit this all with some perspective.

Dwayne Johnson has a great understanding of the WWE, but not so great an understanding of DC lol. Also, good on John Cena for being so open and honest about himself. I watched WWF/E before 1990. And his debut in 1990 Survivor Series was the day I became a fan of the Undertaker. And I NEVER looked at wrestlers as "carnival side shows." I watched WWF/E for the next 1-1/2 decades! So I don't understand what Cena's talking about with Dwayne and Dave "changing the business." It got changed loooooong before they came in. 🤷‍♂️

so I don't know if it was legal or not, but my local theatre actually showed Wrestlemania 28 and 29. It was a blast, every seat sold and half the room was shouting out "Fruity pebbles" and the other half was shouting "tooth fairy". A great time indeed. While standing in line for popcorn I saw a guy who had a Cena shirt on and I shouted at him, his boy is going to take a trip to the smackdown hotel tonight bud. He just laughed and said we'll find out.

Cena's being respectful, his original gripe was Rock never made any appearances or barely acknowledged WWE anymore at that time before his return. The original quote from Cena spelled that out. Its much easier to apologizile and move on besides explain all that stuff. He also may have been wrong in going that route on promos before talking to Rocky before it.
