Sabbatical

3 жыл бұрын

One day in Nairobi, while I was on walk to explore the city, I was stopped by someone who seemed to want something from me. I don't know what it was about me that made me stand out from everyone in the crowd (hmm..), but this man just couldn't stop following me. And thus the chase of the century ensued.

Sidenote: I messed up the word in Swahili for "to ask" and kept saying to "to sell" by accident. So basically I was saying "why don't you sell other people?" Language problems. Don't think it made a difference

@S M ati neighboring countries🤣🤣. Kenyans and pride. Street families are all over stop sounding as if us Kenyans we don't have any. Which neighboring countries are these that people come to Nairobi to live in the streets🙄? Clearly he ain't Somalian, Ethiopian, or S.Sudanese by his accent. Ugandans will go to Kampala and stop at the border with their accent. His English is too fluent for a Tanzanian street boy and Dar es Saalam would suit them. Accept your countrymen in all their shapes. We don't all have homes.

@S M read your comment again it has nothing like " not all are". You said "mainly". These links you keep posting all over are gutter press. Send me scientific research reports published by AU, EAC, and recognized NGOs that have verified real existing migration patterns of street families who all over sudden find Nairobi to be the only safe haven to troop to. The only reliable reports in public back in 2017 is that done by Citizen Tv after crack down in Meru near Kenyan border of handicapped Tanzanians being trafficked and mostly its Kenyans who do business with them. Give us recent citations that are valid, not blogs trying to stay relevant to earn a living. This is a full grown Kenyan harassing people. If this type of human trafficking is that bad in Kenya, then quote the percentage and spacify from which country. I can confirm with 5% level of significance that there is no way "mainly" you are alluding to are from other countries. Statistically your statement implies more than 50% of beggers in Nairobi are from neighboring countries🤣. Remember Kenya has 5 neighbors. Just say some have come from Tanzania in the past. Stop trying to hide your hate for Tanzania because its obvious in some of your insulting comments to Tanzanians in the comment section😃. The tribal hate in Kenya has now gone regional we hate our neighbors soon it will be international🤣. Can't we all just get along with each other. The discussion here should be about our experiences with beggers. Not trying to show who supplies Nairobi with beggers. We can't for instance generalize 2017 reports of 20 (arbitrary) Kenyans in US arrested for breaking the law to mean that Kenyans are innately law breakers. Come on people, Kenyans!! We have gone to school! Let as have educated discussions online. Spewing venom helps no one!

I am a college student who has been homeless twice in my life..... I have been fighting with everything in me to get my degree while being homeless, I've lost loved-ones, took care of my sick and dying parents in the middle of studying at college, lost my mother to breast cancer, my father has been bedridden and disabled for many years, I've lost a wife who loved me dearly, and I've been hatefully misjudged by people on account of my situation, so I have endured my fair share of adversity, yet even I wanted to pick that begger up and throw him..... lmao

While it didn't work on you because you're more familiar with the area and it's people, tourists (especially white tourists) who come there will feel frustrated and scared, so they will give him money to send him away. The beggar seems to have a mental health problem probably cos of drug use. No sane person would be that relentless. You shouldn't have engaged with him that much, it kinda encouraged him. Next time get into a mall or somewhere he won't get in. Men! That was so uncomfortable to watch. Anyway, welcome to Nairobi.

The beggar sensed that you were weak. You kept smiling and laughing and being docile. He saw that and continued to wear you down. Remember you are a walking dollar sign there regardless of how much money you have. You need to get aggressive with this type of people and shut them down fast. I've done it many times and it is quite satisfying!

I honestly don’t understand why people would have sympathy for the drugged beggar and asked sabbatical to give him money. He’s clearly physically fit, fitter than a lot of people! He has the will power and ENERGY to follow someone around for so long. A starving beggar would not have that energy ok?! He might even have money to buy drugs but not food. Yes there are beggars all around the world, it’s unfortunate, I personally have helped out beggars to buy food when they were actually starving. But this type of beggars who seems physically fitter than me is a firm NO!!!! I never give beggars money directly because they might buy drugs or try to gamble
