Some how I discovered this process on my own having memory problems with lyrics not cords. Almost exactly the same as yours, and it works for me, but my problem is timing,I can remember everthing but not exactly at the moment I need it. Great video

This is interesting, especially the recall training section. I can instantly recall songs that I learned decades ago, even if I've not played them for years. It's important to include the main riff as a launchpad (as the presenter says). As I've got older, it's become more difficult to learn new songs, but this largely depends on how much I like the song. Playing dep gigs in the last year, I've learned some songs that I couldn'tplay today, and others that I can recall immediately. One thing I do struggle with, in a solo live gig, is thinking what song to play next (I don't follow set lists). Usually, therefore, I'll have a huge list in front of me, grouped by tempo. If I'm using a drum machine I can glance at the list, and either medley right into another song, or choose one with a different tempo, then stop and quickly reset the machine before going again.

Thanks for this! It certainly applies to me. I’m 73 (which is probably part of the problem) and have been playing for a while and have to refer to my song notes for chords and lyrics even for the relatively easy repetitive type songs. I will give your method a try and appreciate your taking the time to share your suggestions for those of us who can benefit from it.

I.m the same age, but I always had a poor memory. This is an interesting approach but I doubt it would work for me, still seems like a lot of memorization. I think I will always need to refer to chord sheets.

Look for sequences that repeat, 2 5 1 progressions etc. Take it in small chunks when learning songs.
