Pines can be exceptionally useful. They continue the process of photosynthesis through winter when deciduous trees have lost their leaves. Dry your pine cones for useful firestarters in fireplace, grill, etc. Pine wood is soft, but pine does make nice storage boxes and other woodworking items. Lots of craft and decorative uses. The scent of pine in the house is emotionally cleansing, which is why we use pine cleaners like Pine-Sol. And MORE.

Pine trees are common in my area. They grow fast & tall, but they snap easily in high winds. Your orchard project is SO exciting!

Where are you? Growing up in Vancouver & Whistler - not so much with those pines? So I think it tends to be on the variety of pine?
@karenblalock88692 күн бұрын
The variety of pine probably makes the all difference. The cones at Mapperton were more chunky & dense than local ones. My area is known as 'the piney woods' in NE Texas.

Pines are great trees. They provide greenery and or shade/privacy even in Winter. They also grow in soil conditions that other trees struggle with. I had just been thinking a few weeks ago that you need to plant more evergreens.

Congratulations, Julie !! And congratulations, Luke! Great title for a book lol - An Orchid and A Dissertation Are Born! Especially since you're not publishing, I think the whole purpose for that research is not just the educational commendation, but the experience of dedicating years of research, hard work and passion all into one project so that history is preserved, new discoveries are made and you learn how to bring a passion to fruition! Then we come to orchards. Your children will see those trees at full capacity and nature will thank you for creating the whole environment! All these little battles give us purpose! 💝

You aren't necessarily a hoarder if you're keeping things that can be reused. Just make sure you put a note both on the inside and the outside of the box that says "for menus" and put them in the appropriate place where you were printing the other menus to remind yourself what you were thinking. I could also see those being used as a welcome note for the holiday lets and the week long house party ya'll have.

Mapperton Pizza😉 Once the idea is thrown out there… 😄. It’s always sad to lose these trees, so full of wisdom having lived year after year, protecting us and protecting wildlife. Leaving bits as deadwood habitats is a great idea in addition to your idea to make benches for sitting and taking in the view. And the Mapperton apple orchard - what an undertaking so well thought out. And inspiring as I consider what I need to do here at home. Julie, I watched your bit twice, the first time had tears filling my eyes. My heart is so full of pride and admiration for what you’ve done. With a family, a member of the West Dorset community, a Mapperton estate to restore and develop, a house in France, YT channels, and so much more I don’t know how you did it but I believe your genuine love and dedication held you and carried you through the research and dissertation of Alberta. As a practitioner of yoga you are familiar with the concept of dharma and to many of us this is sometimes a difficult path to find but you’ve found it. You worked hard to get here, handle the challenges with great aplomb, and remain loyal to your path. You’re an inspiration Julie! ❤️
