Any problematic "boggy spot" or prone to inconvenient frequent flooding, plant a BIRCH tree. It sucks up lots of water, prevents those chronic flooding-spots. One is usually enough for a pretty big area, and they are very pretty trees with that silvery-white peeling bark and very golden fall leaves. We had one where I lived as a kid, solved a high-watertable area which was causing basement problems, but I just loved that pretty tree.

Oh wow! Absolutely love your recollections and the photos and details of your 5 night exclusive stay with your guests. The menu's looked delicious. But most importantly, I loved the fact that your guests got to stay with you in what is such a stunning family home. Really hoping that Julie will be able to include an overnight stay at one of my favourite Scottish family castles on her American Viscountess series. We have visited Ballindalloch Castle (owned by the Macpherson-Grant family) many times over the years as a family, its simple the best full day out for family and friends and you get a real sense that this really is not just a castle, but also quite clearly a much loved and clearly lived in family home like Mapperton. Julie and Luke, take it from me having visited Ballindalloch many times, it really does make taking the time to make that longer all day journey and round trip to visit an historical home of your size really worth while. Like you, they provide a lovely shop/cafe, but they also nearby provide a great picnic and a fully equipped childrens play area which we have used many times over the years when our children were younger when visiting with friends and family. And another big attraction apart from the castle, the walks around grounds and their lovely gardens when our children were young was the field of Llamas easily accessible to visit from the picnic area. It really made taking the time to take that one to two hour journey for a weekend day out worth while. And finally, it might be a good time to seek some expert advice so you can convert some of your old farm buildings into creating your own gin distillery and tasting area as part of your visitor attractions.

Apple butter, apple jelly, apple candy, applesauce, dried apples, juice, cider and hard cider, apple cider vinegar - so many delicious uses besides tons of apple cake [freezes well], apple pie, apple strudel, coffee cakes, quick breads, dumplings + more. So lovely to have guests. 0:11 Would you consider giving out a “per event” SCHOLARSHIP to open Mapperton (and England ancestry as a whole) to a qualified yet disadvantaged young person who in the end is going to contribute and provide leadership in the future of the UK and Commonwealth? Random long-term subscriber and occasional supporter here - out here in the weeds watching national events happening in UK and seriously wondering how separated aristocrat living is from the “rabble“ (such as myself) - political and economic - living among you. Somehow, in the future, UK current events (somewhat alarming) are going to intersect and impact Mapperton. Would like to see you be prepared.
@SuperMarkizasКүн бұрын
What is your plan to reach leadership positions, and have a stake in future development? What is your agenda for the world, beyond the basic socialist ideas you've declared?
@PAS_2020Күн бұрын
@@SuperMarkizas Simewhat cruel assumptions, but to be expected on social media. You were able to be cryptic and insulting in few words which is admirable. Not as talented as you, therefore a few more words. Being a longtime Mapperton subscriber and occasional supporter (as I have described myself that you missed) would find no need to explain myself other than you would do well to learn the importance of hearing a POV from a contributor other than one’s own group. Of proud English heritage defaulted to a mixed race community - a community economically challenged. A community of the strongest family values which is the exact opposite of any socialist agenda. A community that knows NOTHING and furthermore doesn’t care about the rich heritage of England (and other European nations). Nevertheless, a community of richness, that would thoroughly love the heritage presented by Mapperton. So how can these communities learn of the delights of English heritage without being reached? Here, surrounded by friends - young people - who love the rich traditions of England (and Europe). Young people from cultures that have loved and mimicked beautiful English tradition without even knowing it (Thanksgiving celebrations are the most amazing in a mixed race community - all amazing Mapperton English tradition). GenZ is longing for tradition lost in social unrest. Here in a conservative community of the strongest family values extremely threatened by the socialist agenda - fighting and losing friends and family over the very basic traditions and values held so dear by the Mapperton community. How is this community going to be reached and taught to be able to sustain knowledge of tradition and history? Would be so wonderful to see 1 or 2 different looking faces , added to a group photo of people that have enjoyed the wonderful traditional Mapperton experience. Why do you disdain the idea of a SCHOLARSHIP and call it socialist? Please reconsider.
@SuperMarkizasКүн бұрын
@@PAS_2020 Why do you think anyone has an obligation to consider different viewpoints? Engaging with diverse perspectives is a personal choice, not something that should be enforced simply because someone seeks an audience for their grievances. The United Kingdom is full of historical houses and estates that open their doors to the public, and private homes like Mapperton share their spaces through social media, and choose to limit guests. No one is obligated to offer more access just because it's demanded-it overlooks the owners' choice and privacy, and does go into the realm of socialism. You mention the Mapperton community's traditions and values as 'lacking'; what do you see as those values from your perspective?

I would wonder why was it in other KZbin postings about England during WWII and its domestic food production there was a tremendous need to either drain areas that previously were not farmed because they were boggy or reestablishing drainage channels that had become blocked of previously drained fields. All that standing water just about shows the conditions existing at that time. Coming from California we have to bring in water to irrigate whereas in England what comes out of the sky in that area is presumed to be what will irrigate.
