I got my first Amex personal Gold a few months back too. Great point on not using the credits if it makes you go over budget. That's one way these companies change your habits into doing what they want in the long run. Great video! Subbed and looking forward to the next one.

This is incorrect…. The APR is annual percentage rate… the 16% is not charged every month only 16/12=1.333 per month

Thanks for commenting! As stated in the video i’m just a design major talking about my experience with the card…not a financial advisor or mathematician in any form 😂. Thanks for the correction though. I hope others see your comment if they’re confused

What about the annual fee on that card?? I got 3 no annual fee Amex cards.
@jvmyrvh2 ай бұрын
my original annual fee was $250. Amex just raised the price for the gold to $325 now unfortunately. i think i mentioned in the video that that price point is a little high in general but since it caters to my lifestyle right now and the benefits are good i do not mind. i probably spend the AF on things i dont need more than what i do need lol

I am an African American male now in my 60's, let me tell you with all credit cards and charge cards, you really have to be very careful. For someone in their 20's, just starting with American Express for a credit card, I would suggest the "Blue Cash Everyday Card" and for a person starting off with heir first charge only card , I would suggest the "Green card". (smile ... smile).

Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting! I agree.. you do have to be very careful with credit cards and charge cards. Especially if you don’t have financial literacy. I have heard from many associates in their 20s that have racked up credit card debt because they weren’t educated enough about them, didn’t know you had to pay it back, or they simply didn’t read the terms and conditions 😣

@@jvmyrvh Thank you, for replying to my post. In the early 1980's after, I had earned my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, we were taught to select a credit card with a zero annual fee and a very low interest rate APR. Could care less about earning points or rewards and today, I still live by this philosophy. Currently in my wallet is one Master-card with a 8.9 APR, one Visa card with a 12.9 APR, and a "charge only" American Express Business "Plum" card. (smile ... smile)

Question: What were the APR percentages within the late 80s? I am very curious about how rates have changed through the years
@transitengineerАй бұрын
@@jvmyrvh During the 1980's, the credit card APR's for persons with an average credit score were normally, between 14.9 percent and 18.9 percent. (smile ... smile).

I’d stay away from the Green. The benefits are not as good as they used to be and they raised the annual fee. Blue Cash everyday and the Blue Cash that is the step up from Everyday are better choices for most people. Do your own comparison but that’s been my experience.

How does it work for overseas travel..
@jvmyrvh2 ай бұрын
i haven't used it for traveling overseas yet. so im not the best person to ask. im sorry!! the best advice i can give is to NOT book your flight and hotel through amex's travel site. always transfer points for a better value.
@stuartbagley258613 күн бұрын
There’s generally no overseas transaction fees. We have been traveling quite a bit for the past few years and Amex Gold gives 4x points at overseas restaurants. I use the Platinum to book hotels if I can’t find a good package deal. Platinum also allows lounge access.
