There are Invincible spoilers from about 2:58 - 6:40. You can use the timecodes to skip ahead and watch the rest of the video! There are only very minor spoilers after that part, imo. But if you wanna be extra safe, go watch the show! I like it a lot! Plus, the biggest spoiler I give away happens in the first episode, so you really only need to see that before watching this video.

"Somehow I have become incapable of writing a short video these days." Personally, I have to say that your recent longer videos are easily some of my favourites. With many other creators that sort of length tends to feel like to much, but you fill that time with actually interesting details. You seem to criticize yourself for how much context you give (mostly jokingly, but still), but that context is itself content, as you present it in a very engaging way. After your videos I feel like I actually understand the topic and its history and not like I just heard some basic facts and trivia. Learning that there was a Captain America cartoon and that it was weird is cool, but there's lots of weird stuff around. Learning and understanding why it was made, why it is the way it is, and the real human stories behind it all, that is extremely engaging and interesting. Basically, I personally hope that a return to weekly videos doesn't mean a return to short videos. #ContextIsContent :)

Your story meant a lot. I’ve had issues lately being brought up again due to getting married. For context i and my fiancé and our families are Catholic. I went to a Catholic school run by priests. I was very close to one of the priests. I’d come by his office and just chat. Taught me a lot about what it means to be a man and that it’s not just machismo. Later down the line, a list was released of all the priests in the area with credible assault charges. He was on the list. Devastated me. Made me question if i was being groomed. Had issues going to church after that cause it just brought up all those old feelings. Now that I’m getting married in the church, it’s something I’m having to face head on. Thanks for sharing you story.

I appreciate you opening up about this. It's not something we talk about a lot, and it's helpful and encouraging to hear you say everything you did. I had a close friend when I started college who was a pretty bad influence. I had always been in search of an "older sibling I'd never had" (although I do have an older sibling). This person meant so much to me and while I saw faults, I always thought I knew better about those things. They could be cruel and unkind, thoughtless and selfish. Only helping certain people because we were the ones they had decided deserved it, but I could only recognize that in hindsight. I became like this person, in ways that were both good and bad, but eventually one of the few things I had all of my own, my self awareness, just slipped by me, and I started acting unkind and selfish. It took people outside this bubble that had formed around me to point out this changed behavior. To point out that this person wasn't a very good friend, even to the people they kept close, and that I was beginning to act similarly. I thought I knew better but I had slipped. I strive to be the best person I can be, and there are things I have to credit this person for helping me with. I learned how to be confident, to recognize I could be a leader, that I had talent. But as we (thankfully) grew apart, I used this person as an example of how not to be: how not to treat people, how not to act, how not to lead, how not to wield power. I've been disappointed in myself for slipping into selfish and unkind behavior for years now, making choices and saying things that hurt people around me. I try to be as kind, helpful, and selfless as I can be. I had just been thinking about all this quite a lot the past few days, and I'm very appreciative for the unexpected twist in your video. Thank you, Scott. It was very helpful to hear. I hope you continue to surprise us with every video!

I'm normally not much of a commenter, but having found your KZbin channel through It's Probably (not) Aliens I've really enjoyed watching alot of your back catalog. This video really spoke to me, because I've had a good number of people from my past that I looked up to that ended up being awful, terrible people. People that really made me understand the meaning of the phrase "Kill your heroes." Having come out to many of my close friends and family members that I am transgender, it means a lot to me that there are people like you on KZbin that are accepting of others, and have learned from their past. It makes me feel better about myself when there are others that question their past and grow from it. I know this comment probably seems parasocial, but I promise that I rarely make comments, and when I do they are cheesy one liners. You probably won't read this comment on a year old video, but if you do, just know you've helped me unpack some of my own issues. Thank you

Thank you for making me feel seen, heard, and not as alone. Also, your production value for these videos is genuinely so well done, I envy it. Thanks man.

Hey Scott, hope you're having a great mini-vacation and you deserve to be happy (in general, not just in the vacation). Your thoughtfulness, passion and *yes context* - especially with the new set of videos - is what has brought myself and probably many other curious viewers over and over again to your channel, no matter the subject. They also stand out with their emotional core: empathising and admiring your bravery and openess is what brightens my day when seeing your videos. I hope that your sharing them helps you too, like the one you shared here. Here's to brightening your day :)

Wow, I feel this video a lot more than I expected. I never met my dad and there was a time when I thought I should find out about him. "A boy needs his father" and all that. Since learning about him I live in fear of what I come from and who I might become. Still struggle with it. Someday, I hope I can help support the channel with more than positive thoughts but til then keep doing what you are doing. You'll always have at least one viewer eager to hear whatever you want to talk about.

Another amazing video Scott! I love the personal aspect you fold into each video, this and the Thor video brought a tear to my eye, I could relate. Please keep going in this direction, it is refreshing to see real vulnerability and complexity that we as humans are faced to deal with on the daily. It seems that KZbin is all about the twenty-something billionaire content creators with their shiny Tesla’s and million dollar crash pads where all the kool kids hang out, it’s all flash and zero realism! I know I can’t speak for all nerds but life is not all staged thumbnails, expensive unboxings or overhyped branding content; life is more nuanced then that. You are a brilliant content creator and a positive influence to “nerds” everywhere. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this craft and please keep being a beacon of hope, child-like curiosity, and a lover of all things deemed nerdy.

I fully understand what you mean about having to explain things from all angles. Every time I get a question about an obscure character from the Star Wars Extended Universe (one of my biggest passions, I have to resist the urge to plug my favorite EU comics here), I have to spend an hour explaining the context that a character is developing in.

Never disappointing. Yes your style and format has evolved over the years, but I always find them enjoyable and informative. When your enthusiasm shines through, that warms the part of my own personality that loves this art-form. Never apologize for being yourself, let others apologize to you for not recognizing your uniqueness.

I really enjoy the new direction your channel has taken over the years. You're a brave man for talking about more serious and personal issues... the fact that you can relate these experiences/issues with comics is awesome. You might not have outright said it... but I'm pretty sure I had a "family friend" like you discreetly mentioned. I can't honestly say I know exactly what you're talking about, but as someone who technically lost his virginity before kindergarten I may have projected my own problems on to what you described in this video. Don't know/think you went through the same thing I did but it felt like you were talking directly to me and I get serious 'vibes' from your content in this particular video. It's taken years of therapy and unfortunately a greater number of years experiencing such atrocities to come to terms with what happened. It sucked to live through such B.S., not because it was horrible but because I felt so alone before I started talking about what happened a little more openly. It was a hard thing to do, opening up about my childhood and the reality of what happened but I think in the end game it serves the long term purpose of beginning to help heal my trauma. It's nice to hear someone I have admired for years express that they may not be quite like the superheroes that we all know and love but more like the humans we all wish we weren't, if that makes any sense. You are in my humble and perhaps foolish opinion- a good person Party on Wayne (this is the part where you're supposed to say: 'Party on Garth)

Scott, please...I know anxiety is an as....tonishing amount of work, but please: Don't you ever say, that you dissapoint us. I've been rewatching a lot of your old videos in the last time. And as a viewer, they're still very good...but...it always seems like somethings missing. Everytime when you think: "Oh boy, now we're getting started!", the video ends with an: "What do you guys think?". Don't get me wrong...that's the kind of videos from...2016? Pre 2016? I've never had that feeling than, because I didn't know it could be different and I don't have it now, because of the much much higher quality of your videos. I loved your videos back than and I adore them even more today. Especialy this banger one, that I just watched. You think you're just gettin a really fun time with some quirky nerdy stuff? B A N G!!! A deep message with a personal story! B O O M!!! Social critism and political views between the panels! S N I K T!!! Capitalism is bad! Classic Nerdsync.... So...I know it's hard and sometimes it maybe feels that way, but you're not dissapointing. You Sir, are just gettin better and better in any kind of way

This is actual the FIRST video of yours I've ever seen. And now you have a new patron. I can't afford much, but I really appreciated this video. Keep working, keep talking. I ended up having to get a PhD in Psychology to learn how to do that. Talking comics is a much cheaper way to go.

Hi Scott, I have been a fan of yours for a long time now an am looking forward to your return to a regular schedule again. You’re videos have given me so much knowledge and helped me develop my love for comics and the world of fiction, but also how our world influences fiction. You have made some really Interesting videos and your video on para-social relationship inspired me to make a presentation about that topic for a psychology project a couple of months ago (it when very well). I am also enjoying the LTTP podcast, looking forward to all the future episodes there as well as from your channel. I just want to thank you for setting words on why I have had Invincible on my mind ever since the first season raped up. I don’t have the best relationship with my biological dad and I am afraid of becoming more like him. I never had any plan on becoming more like him but, both of us have Aspergers Syndrome (even if he won’t admit it) and it’s effecting us in a very similar way. There are a lot of thematic similarities between the father son relationships in invisible and me and my dad. No violence thankfully, but I have been hurt emotionally by him letting me down time after time. I have looked up to him like all children do to there parents, but I am just done with him. Sorry if this was a bit too much over caring, but I just want to thank you and get this off my chest. Love your videos and hope to see ore amazing content from you in the future.

They will will always be indie. And I hope they can maintain their independence since Amazon probably sees them as a layup or third prize since DC and Marvel are taken.

Indie does not refer to the size of the company, rather to the fact that creators keep the rights to their creations.

Scott, thank you for adding that statement at the end about not being the person you're afraid to become. I hope you're able to remind yourself of that. I just want to add that modeling yourself on aspect of someones personality that you admired doesn't imbue you with their negative traits. Patterning yourself after someone else behaviors that felt like they could be parts of your personality don't automatically squeeze their worse attributes and behaviors into you either. You are yourself, and unique and wholly capable of never making the choices that a failed mentor made.
