I think the biggest reason for storm 4's story mode to be so reliant on slide shows was the setting. Considering most events were either flashbacks or fights in the same battlefield, there wasn't a big purpose for you to explore the exact same place again and again. They still should've done better than slide shows, but alternatives are not as easy to integrate.

It was impossible to make the Storm 4 story have the same gameplay than Storm 3, but not having cutscenes in the early campaign was made because of the rushed development of the game.

Yes that’s just as i thought. If you ask me i still play storm 4 even after 7 years but i don’t see it like a long term game. I have been throu with storm 4 1000 times but still i have to come back Sometimes and grind a bit. But now that storm connections is coming out i’m grinding storm 4 online asf to get as good as possible knowing connections is going to be ”harder” in a way of mechanics and such stuff. I hope cc2 does everything to make it long term since their old plan of just updating storm 4 wasn’t gonna work i hope this does. This game will give us a fresh start with some new characters and the only thing they need to do to make it long term in my opinion is that they add levels and characters from the show in the storyline. What i mean is like if the game stopped at the momoshiki arc and they begun for example the delta arc or whatever cc2 should immediately start working on it to add it to the game if it makes sense. To keep up the game with the series is what i mean ”sorry ahead for the bad explanations”😅

Jutsu clashes should Combe back, but they should change how they work. Instead of mashing, it would be a combination of buttons, think of it like pressing triangle square circle circle square triangle on PSN controls. Who ever presses the combo faster wins, and who ever makes a mistake first loses. It would be engaging and skill based. It’s also easy enough to understand. And to keep the flow of the game, it’s possible to attack your opponents after the justu clash.

Clashes should go to whoever spends the most chakara. So it would be like an investment. If you win the clash, your enemy is damaged but you used all your resource. Like gambling. It also adds an extra use to byakugan -- which caps people's chakara.

I think the best rework for Substitutions is to make it like a Guilty Gear Burst, and it should reset everything to neutral instead of making the subber do a "nothing personal kid". Also the counter should be changed into a subsitution too when they get hit during the counter.

I wrote this whole thing about jutsu clashes on Gamefaqs long ago. But here were my ideas. 1. Have the winner of the jutsu clash be the player who had more chakra at the time of the clash. 2. Do like Ultimate Ninja 4 (PS2), and when yall clash, play a good ol' game of "Quartz, Parchment, Shears" and whoever wins that, is the victor of the jutsu clash. 3. Jus bring back button combination strings. Or 4. Bring back button mashing. (Least likely & least favorable option.)

Thank God we might not have assist types anymore. Fighting against a guard type assist is super annoying so I'm still really hopeful for this game. I put 3k+ matches into storm 3, that was my college. If I wasn't doing homework or in class, I was likely playing storm 3 online and I would love to see some good things and hype.

@Narutofanatic11100 I genuinely don't understand what you're trying to say with your comment (hopefully english is your second language cause if not oof 😅) If you're implying I want the game to be less difficult by taking away assist types I'd love to hear your explanation of that, because in my opinion it's no where near that simple. For a multiplayer game the difficultly comes from 2 things, game meta and personal skill. Unfortunately, in a game like Storm 4 it's incredibly easily to jump around, throw shuriken, and spam ninjutsu, and guard type assists really helped this annoying gameplay. That play style takes 0 thought and skill and yet it's 100% viable outside of competitive play because it works. In my opinion taking away the assist types should in theory make the fighting skill carry more weight in a match, but of course, if you have a different opinion from mine, maybe you can articulate it this time instead of a single nonsensical sentence 🤣

Does anyone remember ultimate ninja 5 from PS2? I think they had a neat "clash" system on the ultimates (one where you actually can select various types of clashes from circling the joy stick to mashing a button) where you had to click buttons in a certain order and the one who did more won. That would be skillful (and not control breaking) another alternative (this one more for the dragon Ball game) would be time based trigger... It's art to explain but in dragon Ball legends there's a clash system where both players have to stop a bar at a specific moment and the one who did the most would win. If it was a tie the one who did it faster won. Simple. Just one click. Not complicated at all. This all just to comment that clashes are cool and can be possible to make in a skilful and fun way.

But not with button mashing, there are plenty of other mini games to use like in DB legends (stop a bar at the best moment) or in the narultimate series when you used a ultimate attack (first one to finish a short combination of inputs). We never understood the complaint about the substitutions, it's a core part of the show and the game; for people who don't like it Naruto probably just isn't for them. They need to bring clashes back too, it's definitely one of the most iconic parts of the show and having it included doesn't actually take away from the rest of the gameplay, also you should be able to turn it off. And the open world aspect needs a complete overhaul or to be abandoned altogether, they keep half-assing it and it ends up not being fun for players and a massive waste of money and development time for the studio, if they're going to do it they need to really do it and put as much time and thought into it as they do the story and versus modes. The open world should add replayability not just be bloatware after you've checked it out once.

yeah no, if the adventure “free roam” is going to be as stale and stiff as it’s been since storm 2, i don’t want it in the story mode. i was so glad that adventure mode was separate from story mode in storm 4, because that meant you could just speed through the story mode and unlock the characters. i think in some previous storm games you could unlock characters without playing story mode, so it annoyed me that you were required to play through the story in storm 4 to unlock characters, but having adventure mode outta there helped that pain point a lot.

It's like the test game to test a version of the new system and mechanics that they will refine in the main title game that will come after it. That's how i see it and judging it by it's name since it's named Connections and not Storm 5, every inbetween games have had a name instead of a number so far and that has to be deliberate.

Jutsu clashes could easily come back, but I doubt they will. Just make them a optional in the versus settings and disable them on standard online matches. It shouldn't even be that much work, since most new jutsu wouldn't even be able to trigger the clash. Since even in storm 1 it was basically just Rasengan, Chidori and Taijutsu and most characters post Storm 2 use Ninjutsu. Storm is one of the few franchises that actively removes interesting dynamics with each subsequent release.

Adventure mode should be completely revamped, it's not an enjoyable mode to explore, many of the side tasks feel very tedious, most of the time characters aren't voiced and there's no enjoyable way to traverse through the village. Naruto storm 1 had a very neat way of helping you traverse, through the village, it doesn't need to be exact but i'd like to see some degree of that quality brought back in some shape or form so running around the hub world doesn't feel so boring. I also think that adventure mode should have it's own ORGINAL story. Naruto storm revolutions already slightly touched on this with Mecha Naruto and it was an enjoyable but an original story on a larger scale would be better in every capacity. Naruto has alot of potential to tell compelling original stories in it's own world, we've already seen it with movies and filler, there's no reason they can't do it with a game, especially now that the main cannon is finished If they want to keep the side tasks with character interactions in the game, they should at least be voiced and there should at least be a respectable award so it doesn't feel like we wasted our time. It seems like they put a decent amount of effort in adventure mode for players to explore but when it's this painfully tedious and there's no real incentive, there doesn't feel like a reason too.

I’d really like if they took a street fighter 6 approach and maybe had substitutions drain they’re chakra bar or a brand new bar that allows substitutions to be used but also stronger ninjutsus and other options. Substitutions= drive rush is sort of what I’m thinking. A powerful mechanic that can be used but you lose the ability to perform other mechanics. The bar could also introduce a counter to substitute to as well but that may be a bit too out there

I've been saying it for years they need to bring back the OG substitution justu when you had to time the block button with the incoming attack to successfully dodge and it drains your chakra.. This new system is easy when it comes to pysching opponents to get through their 4 substitutions.. once you've done that there's no competition.. imo it gets boring fast.

You do need to time the block button successfully to dodge and who cares if the two players created a chain as that would add to the suspense if someone were to choke; I struggle to understand how that rewards mistakes as you actually had to press block at the exact moment to dodge.. you didn't play storm 1 yes? With the current dodge system you can literally press dodge with your eyes closed and dodge, where's the challenge? Biggest problem with gaming these days is that they hand hold far too much!

You literally do not need to time block. You can mash it, and the timing is inconsistent as hell, so it's basically luck whether you get it or not, it's the exact opposite of skill. With the current system, you can trust your input will sub out, but you're forced to think about the amount of subs you have and manage that resource. You didn't play Storm 4?

I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t want clashes because of the mashing aspect, but why not tie it to meter management? Like with jutsu clashes, who’s willing to sacrifice more chakra to win the clash? If you’re clashing beams in BT4, are you willing to give more ki to win the clash to give more damage or is the ki sacrifice not worth it? I think it would allow for smarter plays and less injury compared to spamming a button or constantly rotating the stick

It makes sense that they made this instead of storm 5 out right because its too early, storm 5 should be a whole new story mode strictly about Boruto and then Boruto and Kawaki just like how they did all the other storm games when it came to Naruto but Boruto’s story is still being written out in the manga and anime were still not even in the Shippuden version of Boruto yet also Boruto kind of needs the old Naruto cast to stay interesting/ relevant to most people atleast until the Shippuden version of Boruto starts and hopefully people will start to love Boruto for what it is and not for what it’s predecessor was

I hope we can customize our awakenings, and justus more. Like in storm 4 you were able to play as naruto in his orange jacket with sage mode, but you couldn't use it when in any other battle. Also i would like to see justu clash come back but different, like nkt a button mash but maybe a small cutscene where it both players take a portion of the damage instead of getting hit by the full amount. Lnowing them though, they aren't gonna do the storm series justice, and its prob gonna be a storm 4 rework in the end.

maybe jutsu clashes could be implemented with some of the ps2 mechanics, instead of matching it would be who presses the sequence of imputs faster would win the clash, so there is still a element os skill implemented, i remeber you could completly evade ultimate attacks with this, and the ultimate would be plyed diferent

I never mashed i invented things, the combos you know in that game i teached them you because at that time the only succesfull combo videos were mine. You probably cant even chain a single tilt with instant awake thats why u hate on it. Flow with the system not against it. Storm 4 is a noob game , you talk about buttonsmashing when all people do in storm 4 is buttonsmash. You cant even do ninja move cancels anymore and you say storm 3 was worse. There are some hidden advanced tricks with the tag system but most people dont even care to learn them they rather just mash circle and tag when you sub and repeat mash: thats storm 4 for you. With friends its fun yeah but thats it. I dont hate on storm4 i played it for many hours, i had 80% wr ranked playing 1 support balanced in few thousand games. It was just boring. The new storm title will be refreshing atleast they are adding some new mechanics and nerfing the op counter. Instant awake made rounds way more intense and actionpacked the rounds only had 1 fight compared to first to 2 in storm 4 and still felt longer and better.

Nobody cares about your tryhard sweat 2 support matches we stylers play the game different in a honest 1 support matching and dont rely on 1 single infinite combo. I won some tournaments back then too i was in many storm youtubers videos included who even cares. Im just saying instant awake was a good addition and if you were active at watching youtube storm videos at s3 peak times you would know it. The only change I didn't like about Storm 4 was that you can't customize the support actions anymore. It ruined some of my favourite supports like Kakuzu and Yugito. I would never voluntarily pick "Secret Technique Substitution"

I'll say that, I'm MOSTLY excited. I played Storm 1 and 2 and didn't touch 3 or 4. So, I atleast can go into Connections having not experienced the last two games and many things will be new to me. The problem that I have is that, I am a casual player and I'd argue that while A LOT of people bought the storm games for the Competitive aspect; However, more often than not the Casual Player Base is what brings in the most revenue for a game and franchise. They usually make up a significantly higher portion of purchases when speaking about games that don't have Micro-Transactions and Pay To Win aspects at least(IE: Whales on mobile games.). Imo, Storms system mechanics and gameplay are pretty well perfected OVERALL. Yes there are small things here and there, new mechanics are always welcome and the Netcode needs to be better BUT. As a casual player, I will ONLY buy this game if it can give me an experience I won't get from reading the manga or watching the anime. I don't want to watch the story mode, I want to experience it, I want it to be Challenging, Fun and allow me to run around the Naruto World. I want lots of new character's and lots of Old Character's to be playable, because that's Fun and that's what I'm playing it for. If Storm Connections lacks this and doesn't improve the Story Mode and doesn't expand on Offline feature's, I don't really have a good reason to buy it. I'm a fighting game lover just like anyone else here but If I'm not going to get a different experience from this than other Storm Games or the source material, there's no reason to purchase it. I still remain optimistic because I love Boruto's Manga but, my expectations are pretty low.

I feel like button combos are kind of an outdated mechanic, most people prefer them to be gone and as far as I've heard the only argument for them to stay is that it increases the risk management skill cap in the game because you need to decide if it's worth the chance you might mess up the input when you try and use a move. Adding a "button combo test" doesn't do that, it just adds a random thing that you have to be able to do to be good for no reason. No one wants to stop for an hour while playing practice matches to go grind out button mashing.

They should use the directional pad to cycle through jutsus and more eg up on dpad cycles through all characters ultimates then have down on the pad cycle through all jutsus then have right on the pad cycle between all throwable tools the chosen character has and left on the dpad cycles through all physical upgradable tools like tools that give speed strength or health buff effects

Maybe 6 years later we'll get Storm 5. I think Budokai 4 would be trash if it doesn't have beam clashes that would certainly deduct it's score and staying true I can understand maybe Jutsu clashes in Naruto aren't as needed because it doesn't feel like as many things clash only really Rasengan and Chidori and some of the other clashes were wacky but I guess you could say that's fun. I think the issue is a competitive player thinking of this too competitively it feels like it's the problem here and it's the problem with the Pokémon community. As a competitive player you could play around it and still get better if you feel yourself inferior at winning the clashes then you adapt and don't clash and if you feel you've improved enough to clash then yeah maybe what they could do is simply make it so that if a Clash isn't won by a certain point in time it just mutually explodes both players being sent back and no real damage or not much damage being dealt to both parties. I hate the removal of tilts they should run that shit back because it just feels so dumb. ~ Not Spectator mode. Also why talk about removal of feautres but tilt into Second Jutsu but that possibly removing Chakra Shurikens? I really hope we just get Awakening UJ back. I feel it could be balanced in the ones that change and most don't have to change but say the Giant Susanoo and other ones likely just would have so much startup and end lag that they use it as a prediction where as the Smaller fighters who's combos don't change as wack might find a cancel or it's just their old Ult because it doesn't change. And say a Small Character combos into their Awakened Ultimate too easy and it's busted they could just patch it so it's slower and that is no longer the case for them to be able to do that.
