I just got the x-a7 as my 2nd/travel camera. As a left handed person with limited movement In my right hand and a wheelchair user who can’t travel with massive amounts of cumbersome gear it’s actually pretty great for that purpose.

I dont get it. I've been into photography for 30+ years. I have no problem using a touchscreen over dials. Nor do i care much about a viewfinder since I wear glasses. I do have an m100 and find it easy to use if just a bit too small. This looks like a step up, currently less than £500 and I won't miss the dials if it's going to perform practically as well as the £1000 plus Fujis

I had th X-A2 and it was refreshing for me. I put it in aperture priority and use the compensation dial most of the time. Makes me less technical and focus on the creative side of things. Held the X-A7 and that display is WOW. Seriously considering getting one as the price is really attractive.

What about image quality, i guess its still comparable to higher x series.
@torb-no Жыл бұрын
Ah, this review was better still! Kinda disagree that cameras like X-A7 is good for beginners. I think the PASM dial is a disaster for beginners photographers. People are always confused by it, including not knowing if they’re in auto or not. You think the big green auto helps? No, it doesn't. I studied Interaction Design at University and there's been a lot of research into what makes and doesn't make for a easy to use user interface, and one of the things we know for sure are bad are modal interfaces (modes). As in: people have died because of confusion in flight control modes for example. For the first half of computing mere text editing was regarded as something most people couldn't do, because the UI was modal. It wasn't until modeless text editing was invented at Xerox PARC in the late 70s (and later copied by Apple, Microsoft, etc…) that text editing (i.e. using something like Word or even a comment box like this!) was something anyone could do. The so-called retro dials of Fuji are a modeless way to control the exposure triangle. It's not cool and retro, it is simply easier to use. (Modal interfaces can sometimes have some advantages for experts, for example, some programmers still prefer modal 60s style text editing in the form of things like Vi, though personally I think they're crazy.) I've also tried teaching people photography, and teaching them to understand the god damn fucking PASM dial is way way way harder than actually teaching them basic photographic exposure. PASM being the standard in our industry is such a travesty that I almost get angry just thinking about it. (Yes, I get very worked up about bad user interfaces. I consider it a moral imperative for anyone making interactive systems that we make friendly user interfaces.) But I superagre with your X-T20 recommendations. That combined with a lens that has an aperture ring is pretty much perfect for a beginner. You have aperture and shutter controls for learning, but most importantly: that auto switch! If the camera is not doing what you want or you’re confused: just hit the auto switch! And it’s so much easier to understand than having the right dial on a PASM thing (or even that lone P switch on the X-E4). I think the X-T30 (incl. X-T30 II), X-E3 and X70 are excellent beginner cameras for the same reason. Beautiful lighting btw. You look so damn good here (not only lighting of course).

Scott, do you think this is a good camera for our travels where we want far superior photos than our iphones offer yet don't want to stop and really get all technical as we snap pics? Right now, we are looking at the sony a7 but feel that might be overkill for what we want.

@Scott_Graham3 жыл бұрын
They’re both good cameras. The Fuji has more native lenses but the canon has the ability to use ef mount lenses with an adaptor. Depends on what you want for lenses other than the kit lens.

The x-a5 was my entry into the world of photography in Oct 2019. I'm still really happy with it and have a few lenses now BUT I'm thinking of upgrading to x-e4 simply for a rangefinder evf. Should I? p.s. I wear glasses.
@Scott_Graham3 жыл бұрын
The performance difference between the X-A5 and the X-E4 is significant. BUT, the image quality isn’t a huge step. It’s more in terms of processing power, autofocus, video features. You’d have to weigh if those things are important enough to justify the extra $$$.

Hey!! Should I go with X-A7 or X-A5 for traveling pictures? I wanted X-A7 but it's not for sale in my country and I didn't want to buy online and wait weeks, since I'm traveling in just a few days. BUT if the X-A5 is not as good, then I'd rather not buy anything for now and wait to get a A7 when I get back. What would you recommend? Wait for the A7 or buy the A5?

Hey Scott, I needed some advice from you. In my country, the fujifilm X A5 is currently the cheapest mirrorless and the 2nd cheapest one is double the price. So do you think I should go with x a5 considering I really need decent video atleast (i dont care about focus thing but the quality of the video and stabilization in comparison to others). Also, if we talk only about the image and video quality, is there any difference between x a5 and x t100? Please suggest!
@Scott_Graham5 жыл бұрын
The X-T100 doesn’t have an AA filter which will give you slightly better photo and video quality over the X-A5. Hope that helps!

Sanj Tiwari The quality of the video is subpar on both the X-A5 and the X-T100. If you do not care about AF then save a little more and get an X-T20 because it will have superior video quality, and it shoots 4K with a slight crop.

I have 21 film cameras. 35mm, Medium Format, Large Format. I love them all. I am mostly a film shooter, but sometimes film isn't what I throw in my Bag. When I HAVE to get the shot, I use my used Fuji X-E1 and 18-55 Kit Lens. I love the thing. Like 16.3 gig sensor is good enough and just shoot Raw+Fine Jpeg. I would guess the X-A1 are like the X-E1 ? Fun little cameras. I did have a problem with my X-E1. Operator error. lol. I didn't know (forgot) when you select the "Disp/Back" button for like 3 seconds it moves the camera into Silent Mode and the Flash doesn't work. I thought my Flash was broken.
