With the speedpaint metallics I've had great success with putting them over one layer of Vallejo metal colour aluminium. Instead of the white coming through you get that nice silver metallic highlight. Looks particularly good with blueish tinted enchanted steel or the green tinted aztec gold.

@Nakai_the_Wanderer6 ай бұрын
My favourite metal colours are the Green Stuff World Chrome series metal paints, especially antique gold. Those colours really look like solid gold, they almost have a mirror finish and have extreme coverage. Their true metal look makes them stand out a bit but depending on which effect you want to achieve, they are perfect. On my Saurus Warriors they make all the gold components shine bright like real gold. I only use a pin wash into the recesses and thats it, the reflections and the shine comes from the light and the surroundings, like real gold would.
@Volgan166666 ай бұрын
Their chrome is amazing. I did some Elven shields in chrome and they look amazing. GSW get a bad rep at times and its not justified imo...

Pragmatically, I’ve found two really good uses for these metals: 1. The Broadsword Silver over black makes a perfect and quick way to paint metallic tank tracks. 2. They’re useful for things like Chaos Marines if you’re priming white and don’t want to have to base all the metal trim bits before using regular metallics on them. I haven’t noticed the separation issues you have, let alone the paint almost fighting being re-mixed. Any chance it was a bad batch?

I love working with metallic paints. I think people get way too hung up on NMM, but a well done true metallic piece is, in my opinion, vastly superior to an equally well done NMM. I should also mention a bad NMM job looks REALLY bad.
@manga30406 ай бұрын
I agree. And honestly even top tier NMM is wierd looking to me. It looks out of place to me. I am a fan of more grimdark style and NMM breaks the immersion for me. Even when done well it looks like really good NMM paint job not authentic.
@rogthepirate45935 ай бұрын
@@manga3040 I think it also kinda depends on what you're painting. NMM works very well for a bust or collection piece with very specific lighting and composition and even possibly a background, where you essentially have one set viewing angle. For a gaming piece - no matter how much or little effort you put into it - true metallics just look better. You view these pieces from all possible angles, and while NMM CAN work okay for this if it's extremely well-executed, it usually just doesn't.

I got the recent new set of the Army painter ones, the metallics are insanely good. I dont think ive ever enjoyed painting and airbrushing with metals as much as these ones, i was genuinely surprised at how well they cover and how "deep" the colors are with a single layer. However...I did also have mixing issues with a few of the colors, where they're almost like runny inks with flakes more than "metal" colors.

I am glad to see that the "new" Tainted Gold is just as good as the "old" one; I was afraid they might drop the colour from the range (as they did with Night Scales, of which I bought some extra bottles) and that would have been a shame, as I use it a lot - I painted all the armour on Ionus Cryptborn's dragon with it and it looks great next to a deep red. It also takes well to a lot of different hues of washes like purple, green, black, brown, etc. Very versatile, just as you mention in the video!

The problem with Army Painter is the consistency of their products from batch to batch. They can change their recipes and rebrand their product all they want. Unless they had their all quality process revamped, it will turn to sh*t after few months of production.
