So I reckon it's set up to go backwards with you walking forwards....so if you set it up from the start at the side but slightly to your front (as in the way you're going to walk) it'll stay there. If you then reverse direction it'll fall in and follow from behind. Pretty neat feature 👍

So glad you got it to work and it wasn’t just me having a fluke Neo 😂. I found abrupt direction changes resulted in the same thing as you where it either went to spotlight or follow. My next test will be on my motorbike to see if it will side track that but I think this bloody wind needs to do one first. Happy new year mate.

The Neo is an amazing drone, for $200 you get a drone that can take off and land on your hand, it will track you, you can control it by phone, you can control it by remote, it works with fpv goggles and can be flown in manual mode.

That’s weird how it adjusts when you stop moving and start up again. I do have to say it’s not the smoothest side tracking drone, eh? lol. It likes to adjust itself a lot like the Holy Stone drones when they’re in tracking mode. It does a lot better from behind or in front for sure.

Well done mate and yes once you start from a side direction you must continue in that direction because it’s trying to track you from the left hand side and when you spun around it’s not going to track you from the right side, cause Paralleling you, is not an option. Try In open field (dry day) you can test this by instead of turning around try walking in a small circle and the drone will orbit all the way around to try to orient itself on the left side again as you continue in the other direction. Just give yourself a lot of room because the drone needs it to re-orient but it makes for great videos. Just remember, when you confuse or frustrate it, it will revert to following you, until you relaunch it again. You did great! I have to follow you to see more of your Neo videos! Yay!! @@nobby-green You know, if I were to let you fly my cheap drone using GPS follow-me, you would say 'oh wow, that's amazing'. The problem with DJI is they keep crippling their products by now adding GPS follow-me. Optical tracking is great. But often it is not. The other problem is that very few drones have a correctly programmed follow-me feature. So people think it isn't any good. But it's only a couple lines code in the app. I won't buy a Neo myself unless it is working with Maven, Litchi or Dronelink. Then you have both optical tracking and GPS follow-me. And of course the Neo should have come with a nice small cheap WiFi controller. Or at least the phone app should have gyro mode. Just shows the people at DJI don't have real life experience. I guess they are all locked up in the building and never go on a trip. Funny thing, the Inspire does have GPS follow-me. Not exactly a hiker/biker drone.

The only bit that frustrated me was that you didn't give it a chance to keep tracking on your left side when you turned around and went in other direction. The times you swapped direction the drone was inhibited from going around you by all the hedgerow on the other side of you. The one time you went out into the paddock you didn't swap direction - the bit I wanted to see was the drone going completely around you to keep tracking on the side of you that you commenced the action. Each time you switched direction on the pathway the drone tried to go around you but only got as far as the back of you before the hedgerow got in the way and you stopped the process anyway. Perhaps try again in the open?

@@GreggSheehan I do get you but the test was simply to get it to work. As for the hedge row if it was going to go around me it would have crashed into it as there are no sensors. And the reason I didn’t continue on the grass is because I was sinking 😂 thanks and happy new year! 🥳

@@nobby-green cheers. I figured the wet-looking grass was the reason you weren't venturing out far on it. I haven't got a Neo, just a mini 4 pro. I didn't think about lack of sensors. Oh well, perhaps when there is drier ground you could try and see if it goes around in a full circle. Have a great New Year in the northern hemisphere. A bit hot here, just been out for a longish ride on my e-scooter to blow the cobwebs out.

You pulled the pants down, as they say in the US, on DJI. It looks like there's code made by a beginner and tested by a newbie... Bug we call it.... Never mind, toy functions and toy drones are not much interesting. You didn't change the direction of Your walking while using the app....
