I always wondered what the hype was around the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 and why some people claimed it was the best portrait lens for fujfilm cameras. So today we put it to the test on my Fuji xpro 2 on a quick portrait session with my good friend Deo. Needless to say, I get the hype although I was skeptical as the size and weight seemed too much. All in all, I do think it’s a great lens and in this video I share my thoughts.

Not sure if you've had a chance to try the Viltrox 13mm f1.4, but how would you compare it to the Viltrox 27mm f1.2? Which performs better optically and is sharper in your opinion? Which would you prefer and why? Granted the 13mm is much wider and for a different use, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Jvpes I was wondering if you'll do a video of low light photography, specifically with the fuji xpro? As on 2 occasions now I've taken it out at night and have struggled to get the shot because of how dark it is, much love keep up the great vids

I'm sure it is a fantastic lens, but it negates the reason that I use Fujifilm APS-C over my full frame DSLR... size and weight. I have a Voightlander 40mm f/2 on my Nikon D700 and it looks like that combo would be smaller that that Viltrox lens on my X-T3. If you need the fast aperture, then it's good that the Viltrox exists, but I'll keep using my small XF lenses that make the Fujifilm system small and light, or I'll grab my Nikon with the Voightlander, which would give nearly the same DOF (full frame equivalent f/1.8 vs. f/2).

Sure, but not everyone keeps 2 different camera systems. This allows Fuji shooters to be closer to the fullframe look, while still having compact options (and the Fuji experience) with other lenses. As in your case you could have a newer Fuji body instead of the 2 older ones for the price.

Viltrox 27mm 1.2 for Fuji is still way smaller compared to 1.2 lenses in full-frame systems. If you want smaller, theres still Fuji 23mm f2 which is only 180 grams

Nice review. Too big for me. Old guy, here, with old cameras….xpro2, x70, Xm1, ricohgriii and x, lumixgx9. I am good to go. Still just can’t think about giving up the xpro2. Regards…Wayne

Good video, would appreciate 4k though, only the zoom ins show us how this lens looks, 1080p with YT bitrate kills the full body examples

Hi there, thanks for creating the video. The flaring of the Viltrox 33mm/1.4 made me sell it. It was an extremely sharp lens and sometimes the flaring could add something in an artistic way, but eventually it bothered too much. Therefor I won´t buy another viltrox lens.

Yeah their 33 is their worse lens in their 1.4 line up, the rest of the 1.4 lenses and the 1.2 lenses are so much more manageable

The Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 surprised me. I thought I would prefer the 75mm, but it is the 27mm that I enjoy using most.

I have both the 75mm and the 27mm but i think my 27mm copy has some issues. It’s sharp at f1.2 in close distance but if the subject is farther away it gets a bit ghostly and it seems it tends to backfocus a bit in does situations but stopping it down a bit seems to help. My 75mm is sharper at f1.2, a beautiful portrait lens.

Seems so huge. So heavy. I use the Fuji fix 27mm f2.8. And it is really remarkable. The Fuji 33mm f1.4 is smaller and has smoother bokeh due to bigger aperture and longer focal length. Honestly, this lens seems like not an optimum set up.

A "pro" lens should not flare that much.
@HumanClouds
@HumanClouds 9 ай бұрын
If you know what you’re doing, flare is not an issue. This, as the 75 1.2, is an excellent lense. A little on the big side, but optically a match for anything Fuji can throw at it.

All lenses have compromises, so you are convinced that “pro lenses” never flare much? BTW what is a pro lens? Is it the latest and greatest only?
@thaivunguyen8728
@thaivunguyen8728 9 ай бұрын
Personally, i'd only consider one must have attribute to "pro" lenses is durability. The rest are lens's characteristics and that depends on the pro's preferences to use it as they see fit.

Isn't it a negative aspect for a portrait lens to be that sharp? Nobody wants to see their wrinkles that much....

you can always reduce sharpness in post, but never sharpen up an inferior lens.

@@russellcameronthomas2116 , but it still doesn't mean portrait lens has to be sharp to be a great portrait lens.
@russellcameronthomas2116
@russellcameronthomas2116 8 ай бұрын
@@afrikabb I don’t think he is saying that. Sharpness is there if you want it. Style and lens choice go hand in hand. If you only do portraits for clients who want blemishes minimized, then this may not be the lens for you. I do street photography, “art” (textures and abstract shapes) so sharpness as fast focal ratio really payoff
@tuzuharurakutu

Never heard anyone complaining about a sharp photo lens, whether it for portrait, or anything else. Who decided which focal length is for which use? We're just so spoiled we have to pick on anything positive or not.
