October 1987, a hurricane hit SE England, I spent that evening up an oak tree, swaying back and forth, listening to this album on my Walkman and watching everything fall apart and blow away, at 13 it was amazing, at 47 I realize I could easily have been killed. I'm still here, and so is the tree.

I went to two Metallica concerts too. I don’t remember what year but I was driving so it must have been around 91 in San Diego. I think Soundgarden opened for them. I mainly listened to classic rock, new wave and alternative around my kids and The Cure is one of my 18 year olds favorite bands:) It’s funny(and awesome) to me to see Gen Z finding and listening to this and calling it classic 😂.

These guys were instantly a cut above every other rock band from LA when Appetite for Destruction came out in '87. Guns and Roses was refreshing for lack of a better word. They weren't hard rock, they were very hard rock. So GnR put all the Motley Crues and Poisons on notice and then Nirvana finished the job in 1991 with Nevermind.
@gunkulator1
@gunkulator1 3 жыл бұрын
Rock music was becoming downright silly in the late 80s with all the faux metal hair bands out there. GNR and Nirvana were the shot in the arm the genre desperately needed. By the early 90s, all that hair spray and spandex was thankfully gone.
@MikeB12800
@MikeB12800 3 жыл бұрын
The labels saturated the market with pretty boy bands with that one hit ballad they all had. Bands were either too soft, or headbangers ball heavy metal. GNR was the perfect hard rock in-between with amazing songs and musicians!

Not to start an argument but I do not consider Motley Crue as a bad band at that time. Straight up rock and roll, party bands that put out good music. Both commercially a lyrically album wise. Just an opinion tho.
@tracyjohnson5023

@@ketorecipiesandhealthystuf5539 Motley Crue has some good tunes. I'd definitely call them the best of hair metal bands. Unfortunately MC success spawned all the other hair metal bands, some good, some not, like any genre. All those bands outfits got tighter, hair got sprayed higher, makeup got piled on. I definitely liked their look much better in Dr FG era though lol. I'm really glad GnR ditched that look after jungle video lol.

The way I started band was begging my parents for a guitar, talk to my friends and find out who plays an instrument or could afford an instrument and get together and make a racket until we learn how to play our instruments better and now to play together better. It's fun especially if you all love music and are focused on getting better at your instrument. It's a cool way to bond with people. That's one way to start a band. There are many ways but that's how I did it.

Until LA Guns and Hollywood Rose merged to form the band Guns n Roses. I'm still recommending my favorite band. Eyeshine- Jumpstart, Turn Off The Radio, Stay, Soul Divide, Cry Call Shout, Nothing's Goin On Here, Careless Disregard, You're The Reason and Lie, Alive. The singer was in the first few series of Power Rangers. He played Adam Park. Be the 1st on YT to react to my favorite band.

A great time to be alive when this came out. They destroyed ALL the bands they warmed up for until they became the headliner themselves. They were strung out on heroin at this point and for a few years on, as well as booze, but hey they were just kids. Slash is half black/half British anglo whose parents were in the industry, so he had a free range childhood to do whatever he wanted. One of the best guitarists on the planet.

AC/DC does not consider themselves heavy metal, they consider themselves rock and roll, Angus Young has said this a billion times.
