I Was Wrong & It Cost Me
Today I show you all finally hooking up the rural water to our homestead. Now we have two water sources for homestead. I was totally wrong when figuring this job out and I was so close to it really costing us.

You can get by without power but not having water is a whole different dilemma I've always kept 10 or 12 gallons of water at the ready to flush the potty and drink I live in northern Michigan and loose power about 3 times a year seems like spring and winter it gets pretty nippley but I keep warm by the way Dutch you look like your shrinking great video

Dutch what another hard job you've done brilliant job you don't care how hard you just don't let it beat you , all this leaving off the grid is okay but not when you've not enough power and have that generator going . Nothing would make me live like it again you're spending more momey trying to get it right I'd put electric in too the Solar Panels as a back up no harm in having electric , you've a lovely home great land have electric for the girls be comfortable get lights around you're property . So easy to have a better life and live it without worrying about power I'm so eased you've got water, feel so sorry it's so wet this year for you and the family God bless you and be proud if all the work you have done with such a big heart ♥ ❤❤❤❤

I put my last water line and septic leech fields down to 4ft just because I could. I had a local farmer with a backhoe help me whilst I was out there working on it with him. I love having the local farmers help me with work as they always could use the money, and I don't have to pay extra for them to drive 20 miles from town because they are my neighbors already.

Looks great and good to put the hydrants in now while all open. My only suggestion would be to put a clip/ bolt to lock the handles down so they can't accidentally get turned on and forgotten being kind of off the normal paths. Having the house on rural water will make everyone's life easier with not having to time showers, laundry, ect.

I added community water on my property for a tiny house for my dad but he passsed away before we laid foundation. It cost about $1000 to run lines but we had meter but not used we on a well to add one electric poll wires over the road and under ground cost about $2000 that was almost two years ago. We had to rent a thing to trench

I had a new well put in 220 feet deep into and thru ledge. The rocks you have are pebbles compared to what was in my yard. I have boulders and they were enormous and I kept them so when we did the gravel driveway they were used as a support wall because my land drops 2 feet on 1 side. They were going to take them but charge me for the removal. I said how about just moving them near my boat so when the driveway was finished the asked me what I was doing with the boulders and I said those are for that area. They thought I had boulders delivered just for the driveway. They moved them, with a skid steer older than me and I’m 60. 1 made the skid steer stand up and it landed on the front door. Hydraulic fluid leaking everywhere and came back with a backhoe

On your outside hydrants, you should have put a layer of gravel down first. It helps to keep them from freezing up in the winter. It lets the water drain out into the gravel. If not, the water can pool up and freeze it up and it doesn't matter if they are frost proof or not. I am speaking from experience.

You might want to put some one-way valve on your outlet from the well and the real water that way if your real water goes out and you use the well, you’re not pumping water through those pipes into their system or vice versa. That way if your valves fail, you’re not going to be pumping a bunch of water, one way or the other

Live on a farm and have rural water plus a well. Animals will use a lot of water so use the rural water for the house and well for animals. Also, put a T-post along side the frost free faucet and secure it to the post to give it a sturdy base and take some stress of the PEX

Aren't you supposed to put pea gravel under each frost free faucet, to disipate the leek back each time the faucet shuts off? You soil may be gravely enough, but it might be good to do it anyway. If you can't keep air around it, it could freeze up. You all are going to love the better water for your household needs, for sure.

I hate plumbing! No matter how hard I work on a project, there’s always a leak. I end up calling a plumber and he either does some tiny adjustment, which cost me a service call, or takes it all apart and adds some piece I never knew existed. That, of course, costs an arm and a leg. Good for you in knowing how to do everything. I really enjoy your vids. Best of luck on all your projects.
