I prefer Perrito over Donkey because of one reason and one reason only: Puss makes it clear when he's not helping, and he SHUTS UP. He doesn't keep talking or forcing him to talk. He's gentle, and when Puss is having a panic attack, he doesn't try and snap him out of it, he just sits there and just lets Puss know he's there. Because THAT'S the best thing you can do in that scenario. Just keep quiet unless asked, and be there.

I think they’re both pretty great and fit their respective roles just as well too, their quirks and attributes really compliment Shrek and Puss along with their overall arcs. Specifically Donkey’s constant chatting and persistence is exactly what Shrek needed to slowly get past the idea of a world that despises him no matter what the second they look at him.

I randomly had a thought watching a bunch of reactions videos. Is it possible Perrito’s path is so much simpler because he doesn’t really want the wish? He’s happy with what he has. Everyone else wanted the wish and their path reflected them and their wish (Puss: lives- difficult life threatening path, Kitty- a partner- loneliness, Goldi: a family- shows her actual family). Perrito wanted to be a therapy dog but he’s already one and was happy with what he has therefore his path was simple and easy.

In another way, I think Perrito's path reflects his optimistic outlook on a series of dark or tragic events. A pocketful of posies for example is often considered a reference to the plague. His river or relaxation is the sort of river he was drowned in. And a quick and easy solution could very well imply suicide. Despite all that, he's never stopped being optimistic, constantly enjoying life for the little things and that makes him a shining pillar in such a dark world.

I was also thinking that his path was simpler due to how he already knows the lesson the star was trying to teach everyone else (to appreciate what you already have in front of you). He in turn also teaches these lessons to the each character.

What he wants is for his friends to succeed and to be able to help them. So the path becomes easy when he has the map, which means he CAN help them by making it simpler, and if they follow his lead, they'll get what they really want/need.

This movie is simply spectacular. It has gorgeous animation, top notch fight choreography, an amazing cast of characters, a great arc for Puss, and one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonists ever. That whistle still sends shivers down my spine. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized he's not invincible after all.

The reason why Puss was scared is hinted at in the beginning with the music, “Who is your fearless hero!” And that he never been touched by a blade, so when Death cut him he never experienced that so he started feeling afraid and of course because it was his last live too.

This movie does a great job showing the difference between being fearless, and being brave. Puss was fearless when fighting The Giant. But he was brave when he faced death at the Wishing Star.

i think that no one ever gets goldilocks, baby bear brings up she’s an orphan every chance he gets, or that she’s not a bear. So I wonder what years of being told you belong might do??? maybe make you want a family that would accept you. I think baby realizes it /what he’s always saying to her and that’s why he also gets so emotional at the end.

And it doesn't help that Baby was reaffirming it every chance. I feel like too many people call Goldi a bitch or selfish because of her wish and hurting the bears. Perrito says she won the orphan lottery but he's very optimistic. In the real world, no matter how comfortable an adopted child is, they want to see what family they had first. They're grateful but they still want to see what would happen.

I really am glad they kept the dog as upbeat as he was and there was no crazy twist with him being secretly bad. Same with Big Jack Horner and his role in the movie as a straight irredeemable villain. With as many characters as they had, they gave a good character arcs making you care about them and none were ignored. Honestly a brilliant movie and was so surprised when I was hearing good things about it and finally went to watch it when I wasn’t going to watch it at all. All the Easter eggs from other animated and live-action movies were well done. There was a part at the start that reminded me of some shots in Attack on Titan the way it was directed as you also pointed out. I think since Kitty Softpaws overheard Puss talking about the church and wanting to be there, she lied that she wasn't there as a sympathy knowing that Puss actually felt bad. Just so much to love about this movie. The cricket's voice was a James Stewart impression if you didn't catch it. You might know his voice from "It's a Wonderful Life". Unless it is dethroned, this is my best animated movie of the year. It's very Oscar worthy.

What are you talking about, everybody who journeyed to the star got their wish, even without the star, no magic required, altough not in a way they tought. Jack wanted to have all the magic, and ended up drowning in the most potent magic there is, without the ability to control it Goldie wanted a family, and she got one, not the one she imagined, but one that was "just right" for her Perrito, even tough he didn´t want to make a wish, said he would love to have a name and somewhere to belong, and he got exactly that Kitty wanted to have somebody she can fully trust, and she got that in Puss and Perrito Puss wanted new lives, and ended up starting new life with Kitty and Perrito So, I´d say, wishes fullfiled. 🙂

people have brought it up, but something I love about Death is that he isn't a Bad Guy...he's an antagonist. He's someone who's goal is to stop Puss, but he isn't malicious. He is a force of nature, and that fear Puss has is almost entirely from his own anxiety. If he wasn't on his last life...if he wasn't fearful of losing what he can't get back...he wouldn't be scared. Death, at the end of the day, only cares about Puss because cats constantly shirk their fear of Death. Combine that with Puss saying he "laughs at death" and the wolf is genuinely out to punish the cat for his showboating. Only when he values his life...stops running from inevitability...does he prove himself worthy of that last life.

My favorite part of watching reactions to this movie is the viewer/s realizing that this movie is _different_ Like, I love that they say they have low expectations prior to watching because that'd mean they'd have awesome reactions. If you rewind to the beginning, to the scene where Puss is fighting the giant and the crowd is making a wave, like in stadiums and pause there, you can see the wolf in the crowd... Also, when at the doctor's and those cards with the number of the life he lost are shown, you can see the silhouette of the wolf holding sickles in all corners of each card... Finally, everyone showing up in the Dark Forest is shown on the map, regardless whether it is them that hold the map or not. And everybody is in the map except the wolf... You just gotta love that level of details! BTW, the scene where Jack Horner dies? Doesn't that remind you of Terminator 2, except the thumb is down here?

Technically he is the villain. A villain dosent have to be evil, a villain is an antagonist to our main protagonist and that’s what death is, he poses the biggest threat to puss and that’s why he’s the main villain, he’s not necessarily evil but he’s the villain

In the end, instead of, the Legend being back this is the legend finally dying. The whole movie he's tried to become that Legend again, and that is what landed hi him in this mess in the first place. The Legend was arrogant instead of confident. This can be seen in how easily he fell apart when he met real resistance. Now he embraces his mortality, something that the legend never did, it always ignored it. The result was him ending up alone since accepting your own mortality is personal growth. When Kitty said that his one true love was himself that was accurate. The Legend only loved the Legend. The final fight with Death is laden with symbolism. - Everyone has to face death alone, our memories and connections can only bolster us. This is represented by Kitty and Perrito being shadows in the flame behind him as he faces Death alone. - Death strips him of everything that made him the legend by swiping off his hat, disarming, and gashing his boots. What saves Puss is his connection with Kitty in the form of the Gatito blade, nothing that was The Legend saves him. - And when Death can see that Puss has changed he just walks away as Puss no longer fears death or is ignorant about his mortality, and when a person truly accepts that one day they'll die the fear of death has no power over them. Death turning around and saying, "you know we'll meet again, right," and Puss accepting it is him showing that he's fully embraced his mortality. One day he'll die, either naturally or unnaturally and that's okay with him.

Despite how Death is definitely the most intimidating of the three, Death is the antagonist, technically speaking. His role is to help Puss learn his lesson of not being immortal and to value his life, hence shy he lets Puss go in the end. Goldi is the anti-hero who has her own motivations, bur does side with the main character when it benefits her, since she no longer needed the wish. She also cares for her own. And Jack is the straight-up villain who is just evil and horrible and cares for nobody but himself. It's amazing how they resolved all three acrs for all three parties in such a fulfilling manner.

definitely,Death is my top favorite thing from this movie,I love Werewolves,and having this upright,black-cloaked and sickle-armed white wolf,with those striking and terrifying red eyes,was right up my alley and enough to get me obsessed with that character,they really pulled off an insane villain,and he deserves to be in my top 5 of best-animated villains ever,top 5 at the very least,even tho,it has to be said,if your villain is literally Death incarnated,it would be quite hard to miss the shot. Goldilocks and the Three Bears are also another highlight for me,from their portrayal,the chemistry between them,the comedy,the over-the-top English accent,that I always find so much fun everywhere I hear it,and,if I have to choose,Goldi and Baby are my favorites,especially Baby,I adore him,he's great. I think they used the kind of animation used for the movie "The Bad Guys" for had dynamic scenes and that work. I heard for the "Death" , the framerate was way better than the other because it's the stronger. We can also see him before he announced himself in the scene Puss in boots against the giant, behind the crowd we can see him in an allee.

I really like how Puss can't defeat Death in the end, but Death can't get him either, because how hard Puss is fighting for his life, if Death was defeated, it would throw to the ground everything that was established about his character. In the end, Death will get everyone, when the time is right, and that elevates him to one of the best antagonists in media.

Death isn't a villain. Jack Horner is the villain of this movie. Death is just death. He's not good, nor bad. So he isn't a villain, like it was said it comes for us all. Of course death isn't fair, it doesn't chose his victims, which is why he gets potraited sadistically towards puss. He didn't respect Life, so why should Death respect him? I love this character so much, it has so much depth into it. Puss realizes he can never escape death and he has to let it come for him eventually, pure acceptance. They will meet again, but this time death will be calmer, since Puss isn't egoistical nor selfish anymore. He doesn't fear death. It's just so beautifully poetic.

no offense, but this is a work of fiction, not real life. people can react to a situation in fiction differently from that same situation in real life ( and before anyone says anything, and misconstrues that, all things within reason, of course ). of course goldie is allowed to have complex feelings about her adoptive family, in a perfect world, it'd be nice if she could have a 'normal' or 'real' family and her bear family. i think that's perfectly valid, but i really don't think that's the kind of story this film is trying to tell, and I really don't think a youtuber's simple reaction about it to a simple portrayal of adoptive families should be taken as some sort of personal attack.

I'm only here for *THE WOLF!!!!!* 🤩 ...And also Perrito. He's cute.🥰🐶But TBH,I didn't like the way they handled Goldie's storyline. It's almost like they want to _blame her_ for wanting her human parents back,I don't think it's fair! In real life it can happen to have horrible biological parents or simply parents who can't or don't want to keep you for whatever reason so any alternative family that genuinely loves you is welcome,but A)we don't know if this is Goldie's case...her parents could be dead or they could have lost her against their will and being desperately trying to find her,it's not fair to say it doesn't matter anymore to find them only because you've found an alternative!B)Nobody says that regaining your biological family implies ditching your adoptive family...Goldie could have 1 bigger family or,just like the children of divorced parents,spending some time with the bears and some time with the humans...OR she can eventually decide she wants to only stay with the bears but why should she RENOUNCE to choose only because the bears are getting offended?!?Think about the parents too!! Isn't it fair for *them* to know what happened to their child,in case they didn't know?!?Then IF they are ACTUALLY horrible parents who abandoned her ok,fine,she can ditch them and stay with the bears,but at least she(and we)will know for sure! P.S. I *HATE* that new opening because they put things like"Baby Boss"and"Trolls"and they didn't put"Rise of the Guardians"!🤬💢I also hate the subtitles that write"Speaks in Spanish"instead of actually writing the spanish lines,expecially in this movie since..they didn't even bother to write"Perro"(=Dog)and"Perrito"(=Little Dog)AND THAT'S ABOUT TO BECOME THAT CHARACTER'S *LITERAL NAME!!* Imagine him in the end saying:"I think I'll just stick with Speaks in Spanish. Since..that's what my friends call me.^w^"🤦‍♂
