The only scratchy one I’ve found is cassel earth, but it looks identical to sepia so I just use that instead. I wonder why they even make. cassel earth, it serves no purpose.

We used the egg-pigment-method in my Highschool arts history class! Was kinda nasty cause despite rinsing them, my brushes smelled like raw egg for so long, but the painting that I did by the end of it was pretty good ngl :D

The two big reasons why people use Luminance over prismacolor is luminance is lightfast, most prismacolor pencil colors are not. Also I’ve never had any of my luminance shatter their entire core like I’ve had happen numerous times with my prismacolors. It’s sometimes to the point that I barely get to use the pencil at all. I use luminance for my actual artwork, I use prismacolor for my coloring books. though I am searching for an open stock pencil that has better quality control at around prismacolor’s price point. Even though it’s just a coloring book, it sucks when you can’t use the perfect color because the entire strip of lead came unglued and slid out of the top, or every time you put the pencil to paper the tip falls out.

Altho I must admit, I never agreed with you about Oil over Acrylics. I love, love, love acrylics. The very first painting I ever did was with acrylics and it's been my favourite ever since. I must admit I'm not much for coloured pencils, but from all the creators I've seen on KZbin it seems that Prismacolor are the best coloured pencils out there. Apparently the murphys soap works so well because it has paint thinner in it. I learned this from my bf because he says if you use it on wood, it will take a layer off every time you use it so it's not good to use on wood.

I also agree with the Prismacolor -- I've got spendier-fancier sets and less costly budget sets but Prisma falls in that in-between place. They're a bit more expensive than some of the budget lines but if I am frugal for a few weeks I can always get a full set when I need to replace my full set and their open stock at several local art supply/craft stores and smaller set options to replace the colors I go thru more quickly make them ideal.

Cadmium vs Cadmium-free hues differences depend a lot on the medium. It is harder to get a Cadmium free hue in watercolor that behaves the same as a watercolor Cadmium paint. Winsor & Newton have good replacements, but other brands can be hit and miss.

Yes, I have both cadmium and cad-free yellow and I love the cadmium yellow. I can't trust myself with it because I am a dumbass and will occasionally drink my water. No heavy metal poisoning for me..

Have you ever tried Caren D'ache Neocolors? They're basically water soluble crayons but really just sticks of pigment. I love them. Especially painting on dried clay. I don't have a lot of experience with them so I was wondering if you do. I tried to search but didn't see it so sorry if you've covered them before

I have those! I love them! I definitely tend to use a wet brush to get pigment from the crayons instead of drawing with them, but I enjoy them!

@Palitato Yes! That's what I do too. It appears tedious but I find it fun. Have you ever used them on dried clay? It takes layers BUT it completely washes off if you don't like it. I tried to use them like water colors for flowers, really interesting to me. It worked ok but I noticed that when it dried it was just a ton if pigment left on the paper and looked cartoon-ish. How do you work with them?

I gotta say, I fell in love with Caran D'Ache pencils. I have the large water colour pencil set and the metallics too. They are so nice to use! I'm glad you did a video on some of their pencils, because they're seriously great 😄 Also, I'm the opposite with acrylics vs oils. I looove acrylics, been using them since I first started painting when I was 9. Oils frustrate me because of like you said, the ventilation, ALL the tools you need to do one and not to mention the drying time! 😆 I've only ever done 2 paintings in oil and I'm honestly not sure how many more I will do 😅 Thankyou for always keeping it real Rae!

Murphy's working for removing oil paint makes sense, but I've had zero luck with it when it comes to acrylics. I almost feel like the only thing that might work are plasticizers, but those would probably also ruin any synthetic brushes. I should mention my bottle is ANCIENT, so it could just be my formulation is different from modern Murphy's?

I just picked watercolor back up after 20 years, and I have been so hard on myself. I used to be pretty great naturally. Coming back has been so hard because with age came perfectionism. So thank you for saying we have to be bad to get food, to not beat ourselves up over it. It is the advice I give my daughter, but I guess I needed someone to tell me as well. I put something on paper every day and slowly investing into the better materials hoping that will help. Maybe it came so natural in my youth because I wasn't so picky and hard on myself. Like so many viewers I saw the notification and you looked so sad I rushed to watch - I was chasing a hot deadline!!! As soon as I knew you were ok I got back to work, growling a little. Task over I went back to watch your video, cheeky, and as usual thoroughly enjoyed it. Even now I am still muttering, “no, you don’t need the fancy water thing”.
