I need therapy bc this reminded me of how I was never allowed to have items like this. I was always put down and told I wouldn’t use it or didn’t need it since I’m a girl 🤔 and wasn’t “exceptional” at art. I would get tons of cheap baby dolls and Barbies that I didn’t need but god forbid I wanted a nice art set. Therapy will be great 😂 because my brother who is a few years older constantly got gifts like this and even when I got older…I never received things like this, always very infantile gifts. I’m not that slow lol and yet my brother would get a bike- I’d get a couple of cheap dolls. He would get a nice watch and several creative art sets…I got (you guessed it) dolls and other garbage for little girls. I was over 12 and being given fisher price toys like fake food 😅😑 it sounds whiny but it always went this way and I was told my brother is good at art, that I’m not smart enough or responsible enough for gifts like that ! A lot of Christmas gifts were given by my moms friends bc they “felt bad for her” and my mom is a great actress 😉 the reality is she used the money SHE had to always buy my brother nice things. Jordan’s, nice game systems like Xbox and I’d get an outfit given to me by a stranger practically (that didn’t fit me) wasn’t my style and I was beaten when I remarked of it. I think the worst times were when they’d include a gift receipt and my mom would exchange it for something she could keep or sell, if not the entire money back to which she usually kept it or gave me a small portion to buy something from a cheap dollar store. Honestly, I’m going to therapy and I will buy myself all the art supplies and heal my childhood. I will even get myself a bike and watch 😂🙏 I love art and funny thing ? All the baby dolls, the Barbies, the constant instilling that I’m a woman who will be just a mom and probably not capable of more- I have no kids and I will pursue business before anything domestic. I will take care of me 💅🏻
