I do like how Boa’s change in feeling towards Luffy does come from respect. He guarded her sister’s secret despite being enemies, subverted her expectations by asking for a cure for her stone effect for his new friends, and beat up a member of the group that gave her traumatic experiences that most people cower in fear of since rebellion invites harsh consequences.

I think there is an argument to be made that she also likes Luffy because he doesn't care about her appearance at all. Everyone treats Boa differently because of who she is and what she looks like. Even her own subjects, all of which are WOMEN, are completely in love with her. Luffy is probably the first person since she was a child who sees her as Boa, not "the snake princess" or "the most beautiful woman in the world". He treats her like a person, not an object either to be worshipped or possessed.

He proved he wasn't evil by not simply finishing Sonia or letting her back be exposed, he proved he wasn't selfish by putting the well-being of his benefactors before his (at the cost of his) and he has a historic of punching the sole nightmare of their lives in the face even if touching them means eternal prison/death The build up it's real and beautiful

She sees those as reasons to blame herself for something that wasn't her fault.

That version of the myth was written by Ovid, a Roman poet by emperor Augustus (no one knows exactly why with reason ranging from criticizing the emperor’s marriage laws to sleeping with his daughter). Ovid’s claim to fame was that he tended to rewrite a lot of Greek myths to up the unfairness of the gods and the powerlessness of mortals, even to the point of scrapping the original message (the Greeks were very big about warning you about hubris). The whole Medusa being a cursed priest thing was an invention of Ovid, in the original Greek myth she was never human, she was born that way.

Makes sense why she likes Luffy now a younger man. She is more similar to his age than those in her own age (mentally that is) maybe even younger mentally depending on how much trauma she has. Chopper is also a good example of how trauma stagnated his mental age, he is a teenager but he acts like a small child/baby at times. Chopper is smart but his personal development needs more time so that is why Chopper is so gullible and naive. He only started to mentally develop when he joined the Strawhats. Dr Hiruluk helped him with trust issues but Luffy and the others helped him develop as a person.

It really is intresting. I mean if i gave you a library of data and said it contained your next 24 hours, you would face the real problem of having to chose what to read as you would never get all that information before those 24 hours was over. But even if you could read all that in one sec, the next thing naturally becomes if you can react fast enough. So the future is 100% tangible, its all down to information and probabilities, there some quantum weirdness when you get detailed enough. but really on the big plan, we all can predict the sun rising tomorrow. So predicting your enemies movements would come down to a simple equations of possible movements, and stuff. But Sure In reality its always gonna be a gamble, doo to lack of necessary information. But in a world like one piece we could explain it all with people being able to read the "waves" of haki emanating from people's body's It really be something like fealing the wind shift or even just picking up the toughts or som bs from the minds themself and reacting to that input in time. Making it really no difrent than "how fast can i react to this guy incoming intent of a punch" Sorry long ramble I really love the One Piece Haki system, its magical but yet sooo tangible and in touch with reality its a such a hard rulled and well crafted magic system. It also really compliments the One Piece worlds "rule of cool" because naturally you Haki is strongest when you confident and in your moment.

It was an educated guess, but they didn't even have Luffy's fruit type right at the time, there's literally no way to know if it actually does lasting damage since one of the largest base assumptions (DF type and therefore Luffy's physiology) was incorrect. Additionally the assertion is that Luffy's stamina cant keep up with the strain he's putting on his body and that's a thing that training and time to heal can mitigate or even nullify over time. Think the difference between training till your joints and muscles blow out completely vs, a measured training regimen with time to heal between sessions. One does short term damage that can be recovered from and the other does permanent harm even though in form they're the same set of actions.

Remember back in Drum when Vivi taught Luffy to ask for help, and that not everything can be resolved by force? There really are only a few points in One Piece where Oda cooked, rest is just us getting the delivery of that 1 class meal. 1: before the start of one piece setting up basic story setting up who knows what. 1.5: maybe right before Along park setting up everything about fishmen. 2 : some where around Enies Lobby where pretty much everything well how many arcs got added 3 : and ok, the input of the "worst generation" was for sure also story direction shift with majore future implications and changes to what ever was the oginal plan. Luffy is the realest one out here I think. Saving his enemy from humiliation and trauma, giving up his chance to leave to save the girls who got petrified, and trying to not force Hancock to Trauma dump to spare her sister's pain. I think in Luffys mind he specifically wanted Boa to revert the stone effects and save the girls as he feels guilty for getting them in danger in the first place. He feel he own them for saving his life. Luffy if could not get Boa to help him get off the island he would of tried to find other ways to leave. Every worst thing possible that you could imagine the Celestial Dragons doing to their slaves, even your worst and most terrifying acts that most wouldn't dare wish even on their enemies is what happens to their slaves. It makes me wonder why no marine hasn't pulled a Shinobu Sensui and started attacking them in pure rage. They're meant to be a symbol of justice but the Celestial Dragons are worse than any pirate on the seas ever would be. If there were former Admirals who are out at sea because they snapped so hard, it wouldn't surprise me.

Each time Luffy uses gear 2 he reduces his own life span, unless he's certain his opponent is someone he needs gear 2 or higher to defeat it makes sense not using it.

One other point to appreciate about Oda's writing: he is a major history buff, he intentionally chose to make the women of Amazon Lily and their architecture Chinese instead of Greek which would have been expected considering they're inspired by amazones and the myth of the Medusa (who was also a victim in her story), that's more likely as an acknowledgement of the rapes of Nanjing that happened during ww2 acknowledging the crimes of imperial Japan.

A dude who with the power of nazi germani and fascist italy overthrew the previous government, there's a civil war after which he establishes an authoritarian regime with a strong repression of all political opponents and centralized power around himself and his family, he also dismantled and undermined worker unions which if you know what was going on in the smile factory you know doffy was also very much exploiting his workforce who couldn't say no

I think the reason that Luffy was able to go gear 2 and 3 in Thriller Bark was because he knew that his crew would take care of him if he pushed himself too far. They are not with him on Amazon Lily, so he has to be more careful.

7:43 Gear 2 isn't an instant win power up. He will be stronger and faster, but it takes a lot out of him afterwards. Don't forget when he fought the Pacifista in the last arc he had the support of his whole crew. If he didn't beat it in time and gear 2 was done, he could rely on the others. Here he is alone. Plus, Luffy isn't dumb when it comes to fighting. He needs to get a good gauge of an openent to at least try to figure out how they fight and see if he can even do it with his standard less costly methods.

If you want rationality for not immediately going gear 2 is is if your cardio vascular system excelerates it's function while you are breathing poison air you will die faster because you increase the rate you take in poison, in this scenario he also has to worry about potentially fighting Boa after and Gear two takes a LOT out of him. Then there is the obvious reason that it shortens Luffys life, as it is he is unlikely to live long, personally I think he gets to the age of 35 at most.

Ok I’ve never watched One Piece but while I won’t comment about how I feel about the way the portray the message in this episode until I’ve seen it for myself the is one little thing I like. I really like how Luffy says that they can stop and don’t have to keep talking. In a lot of other shows some people will just stand there shocked. Of course that is a valid response however, I like how Luffy just straight up says they can stop if it’s hurting to much.. Don’t know why but I really liked. Yeah there alot of factors to it. He went all out back on Sabaody Archipelago because shit was BAAD and they were out of time This here is a hole other cake. He could not be sure how strong they were, and even then he also really would preferer not to fight that fight. Alicia also gos "we getting beaten" and im like... ehhh not really, Luffys taking some punches and sure those spikes were getting close, but Luffy lives on the ege constantly, thats not new. It was pretty clear to me Luffy was just doing his usaly goff around observation, that his enemies ironically also always makes them underestimate him. Because it looks like they whining, but Luffy is just taking the hits to find out how strong those hits are and what his enemies can do. Then when he collected all that data he goes in for a the punch, now knowing exactly how to beat every chance of wining the enemie has. Just notice how fast he defeated them after saying "my turn" He was having close incounters with deat, but he wasent "losing" by any margin, as he was not really fighting. Its also really in line with the core of buddhism, don't fight battles before you have all the data to win them. (Unless you really freak desperate because you just punched a Noble asshold in the face and everything going to shit )

It would be cool if Arlong got a redemption arc, but I highly doubt it, as I believe that he is too far gone. The thing is that even though his hatred is understandable he turned out to be just as bad as the Celestial dragons keeping humans as slaves in everything but name. At the same time I also think that one of the best things about One Piece is how fair they are in portraying both sides of an issue, and giving Arlong a redemption arc might end up feeling a bit cheap depending on how it's handled. =3

Each has a drawback, gear 2: shortens lifespan, gear 3: gets small after using it( he seems to not have that happen anymore), gear 4: not able to use haki for a while, gear 5, gets shriveled up and can’t go back to normal for I think 30 seconds.

Yeah, this is one of those episodes that hints or dances around the dark truths of the mature or dark aspects of Oda's creation. Though it's never properly stated or confirmed until they say it, you can see the subtlety behind it all. And this is one of many. You never go full force in an anime fight for 2 reasons... at least not against and actual decent opponent... 1. You do not show all your cards before you actually see what the opponent can do and have a firm grasp of their abilities... otherwise you are unaware of the counters they could have to your specific powers... you also lose the element of surprise that could have otherwise doubled your chances of your techniques actually landing an effective hit... Usually the overconfident opponent is the one who falls into this mistake by allowing you to see some of their techiniques first... And yes, since our characters will "always" be able to handle some pummeling at the beginning before the opponent starts going full force too, paying that price is quite worth it... BUT against the kumabots last arc he had no leeway to do that... they all needed to start as strong as possible since they would not have survived that observation period if they had not gone all out from the start... therefore they had no choice but to risk it... not to mention some of them had already seen what "kuma" could do previously... 2. Most importantly... Going full force and defeating the opponent faster does not make for a very interesting viewer's experience... you only do that with your characters if you want to show that your characters are way stronger than some opponents before a new one arrives and destroys OUR characters... to show how we have been just fighting weaklings so far even if we are a little bit or way stronger than those... but we were not on the level of the new ones to come... and this usually happens only if we will get a taste of that and then we will have time to regroup like it happened back in water 7...

I never thought about how Luffy avoids Gear 2 till the end. Not just for the, "It's Shonen Anime, they always do that for suspense" but just in how he burns too many calories doing it (and he didn't steal enough delicious meat yet, our boi was still hungry going into this). It's got a valid reason to not just be used until he knows he's got to, just like being smol Luffy after third is a drawback. Yeah. One could see how Luffy punching the color out of a Celestial Dragon would warm the Snake sisters up to him. Luffy, after being wrecked by an Admiral and had his crew annihilated in the aftermath: And I'd fucking do it again. :D But really, it's important to note that Hancock grew up on Amazon Lily until her capture. That is to say, her first ever experience with men and only experience for years was with the celestial dragons. It traumatized them all, but Hancock's specific trauma meant that she could not be vulnerable ever again. She had to push everyone around her away and project an air of total control because nobody was allowed to ever control her again. Well. She didn't *_have_* to push everyone away. Only the ones who only see her as a pretty face and failed to recognize her as a person. Considering she's the most beautiful thing in the world though.... Well. It turns out that being able to defy her ability to get away with anything "because she's beautiful" is a green flag. If only we had a simple, sweet idiot who doesn't see inherent value in a person's outward traits. Someone who doesn't treat race as special so he can punch a fishman for being an oppressor of humans and punch a human for being an oppressor of fishmen. Someone who can recognize that a lady is beautiful, but is completely unmoved by an ability based on attraction.
