Fun fact: since filming, I’ve climbed the two main projects I talk about in here. Two down, four to go 😀🥳

There’s so many things outside of climbing I love to do. It was nice to make some time for it this year. No regrets it doing something other than climbing for a little while 😀

Hi Tom, thanks for the video! You’re such an amazing speaker - I can feel your psyche through the screen, which may be a contributing factor to your long lists 😅 good luck with the other 4 goals!

Welcome back, mate!😁 I found the need to do a similar thing with my goal setting a year or so ago. For me, one great advantage of keeping my active goal list to just a few boulders or routes is that it allows me to analyze what was holding me back when I fail to succeed in a timely manner. Notice that I said "active goal list." Something that I find super helpful is to keep lists of possible goals that are not active. When I accomplish something, I can then look at items on these lists and choose what to upgrade to "active" status. Often times, it's just a matter of asking myself which goal I am best suited to go for based on the fitness I have developed from my recent climbing. Still, there is always the option to chose my next goal based on whatever criteria I want to use. Freedom + clarity + accountability = more consistent psych. Sharing your active goals with a respected climbing buddy (or, everyone on your channel!😉) is great for that last one, "accountability."🌅

Yes, totally. Being locked in on an achievable handful is great for all the reasons you say. And having a few simmering in the background is a nice motivator as well 😀

@@TomOHalloranAus With my background in psychology, this kind of stuff fascinates me. With my background in sucking at climbing, this kind of stuff matters to me.😅 Of course, you have remarkable achievements in climbing under your belt that are at a level I will never reach. Please, for the benefit of climbers like myself, I humbly request that you not hesitate to share some of the specifics of your approach as you move forward with the second half of the year.🙏🙏🙏 FYI, my approach is very much a work in progress; I didn't mean to suggest that I have everything figured out, because I most certainly do not! If anyone is close to having it all figured out it's you, Mr. Olympian. Or, do you prefer the title of "Mr. 5.15+ First Ascensionist?"🙇‍♂

Nice stuff mate. Personally i find it difficult to balance the love of exploration & development with actually projecting sends. Maybe i should just commit to sending more, so the new projects don't keep piling up

It's very very cool. Wiz Fineron did 2nd ascent, Ben Cossey did third but with a very different sequence. I'm 4th. There's a bit more of breakdown video (free) on my patreon which goes into some of those details. Link in the description of the vid

Very interested in your thoughts about if and how running has bled into your climbing performance. Going through a similar identity crisis where I find myself putting running shoes more often than climbing shoes.

Great video as always! Do you you have other climbs like revisiting Wombat Roof or Ryan's route in Nowra as possibilities in the not too distant future? Also might the podcast make a return at some point?
@TomOHalloranAus
@TomOHalloranAus 3 ай бұрын
Wombat roof is 100% on the agenda for the end of the year. Keen for that. Nowra stuff, not so much. I’d like to but it just won’t fit in the year so I need to just cut it off for now. Save myself from being pointlessly pulled in another direction. Podcast, we really would love to, it’s just the time. It will come back, just a matter of when. Hoping soon
