A PS2 built into a TV is a great idea, I don't know why they didn't make more things like this. TVs with VHS and DVD players in were quite common, a PS2 makes a great DVD player, it just makes sense. Perfect for your cabin, or a bedroom. I know I would've loved to have one of those in my room as a kid. That being said,, this isn't tightly integrated. Kinda just looks like a TV standing on top of a DVD player, which is a thing you could've done. They should've made one based on the PS2 slim, and integrated it into the back of the unit, with just the controllers and memory cards plugging into the bottom.

650 can get you a gorgeous piece of history, meaning a real typewriter from 1910 that still works beautifully and will likely outlast that fake typewriter thing. And for the record, you can get vintage typewriters for like $100-200 and again, still work.

Yep, doesn't even have hot swap switches, a decent screen, or a good lasting battery on it. I'd just DIY it for that price. You might be looking at 10 hours of time building it (so like a weekend), 100 bucks for getting a 3D printed case for it, and maybe need to learn the surface basics of using an Arduino (or other micro controller). But you'd still do it for less than 650 and it would all be custom to exactly what you want, including the screen, battery, wireless options, and all things in-between that. Plus, you'd be able to replace anything real easy down the line with the knowledge you gain.

The better solution to the Freewrite is connecting a mechanical keyboard to a Raspberry Pi with a tiny E-ink screen and software that is just a word processor. I bet you can find a Linux distro that's super tiny and basically would support ONLY running a nice super-basic word processor application.

Fun fact about the Motocompacto: It was inspired off one of Honda's other bikes, the Motocompo. Basically, it was a scooter you could get as an optional extra for the Honda City (a little hatchback sold in the 80s) and it was basically the same thing as the Motocompacto but gas powered and it could go a little faster. It was also slightly larger. I mean, the inspiration is pretty obvious, seeing as the names are basically almost the same.

The Freewrite device seems to be based on a neat concept, just... as the spouse of a writer, from a family of well-known authors... it's clear that they didn't consult an author. This device is too different. It draws you out of the experience. The instant that happens, you are not 100% focused on writing. The e-ink screen was a big step in the right direction, HOWEVER, in their stated intention of reproducing a "typewriter" experience, firstly it is the wrong size and shape, so won't fit anyone's memory/muscle memory easily there, and secondly, this is the big one: the screen. You need it to be a portrait mode screen at least book-sized, and preferably the size of a full sheet of paper, or at least the size of an iPad. And, on that note... there are also a lot of cheap, readily available mechanical keyboards that look and feel like a typewriter... and have a slot on top where the sheet would come out to stand an iPad or similar tablet, having it sit right where the paper would in an original typewriter. That's pretty stiff competition, and, frankly, I think they're doing it better. I love the CONCEPT of the Freewrite, but... they're not there yet. Still too "different". Edit: And, at that price... you could just go and buy a brand new iPad/Pixel Tablet/etc. AND the aforementioned mechanical keyboard typewriter... and still have enough left over for lunch. (Well, at least fast food, with today's food prices, lol.)

In Joanna's defence... You HAVE said worse Austin, and you know it. But it's not been anything too bad. 😇 BTW, I've been looking into mechanical keyboards an alarming amount lately (I need a new one). 300-400 can get you a similar keyboard to the Freewrite, with hot swappable switches, and it will be wireless with maybe 20 ms lag, and you could add additional parts to the board like a macro section, a little screen for any info over USB/Bluetooth, heavier base plate, as well as custom engraving. Then for 100 bucks more, you can get a custom enclosure and switches, as well as an Arduino to manage it all. Way more flexible than whatever that was.

If I am not too badly mistaken that a typing keyboard was called a word processor. Because with a typewriter it printed directly to the paper with the ink ribbon. The word processors either came with the printer already attached or could connect to a computer to print. Now of days they probably have wireless printing with those. The biggest advantage with the word processor you could proof read what you typed and even spell check with the typewriter if stuff didn't sound right or miss spelled you either had to re-type or use a lot of whiteout.
