dolly mcg you are right -it is a beautiful hymn with so much healing, depth and blessing, this hymn along with the powerful 'somewhere over the rainbow' sung by Eva Cassidy never fails me move me.

My beloved mum died on Sunday evening. She chose this hymn as well as How Great Thou Art, and I am looking for a nice version we can play at her ceremony - our townsfolk aren't reknowned for their singing so it will be more comfortable for all to play the tunes instead. I hope you have found peace in fond memories. I found a beautiful poem tonight that I'll share: She Is Gone You can shed tears that she is gone Or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her Or you can be full of the love that you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday You can remember her and only that she is gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. I heard this for the first time at my cousin's wedding yesterday. We sang it just after the marriage vows, with the sun shining in through the stained glass windows. It brought tears to my eyes for the entire hymn. Really beautiful.

After officiating at the funeral of one of my parishioners today and this song was played, the whole congregation busted out crying and i had to stop the song. The emotional impact it created on everyone including myself was beyond any human comprehension. May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
