Gregg Turkington currently holds the Guinness World Record for 501 movies in 501 days - it might be worth notifying them to take his throne.

Regarding your conversation on if watching more movies makes you better at understanding the medium, I completely agree with you. You need to experience real human moments so you can have a more meaningful interplay between the themes of the movies you watch and what happens on the screen of your life.

God you're my favorite person on the internet rn This legit made me cry I actually haven't been able to watch much movies this year but I always look forward to your videos cause movies just feel better with a companion lol I wish someone in my life liked the same stuff as me Sometimes I feel so unseen god I'll stop with my pathetic rant I'm thinking about not posting this comment but I'll let myself be stupid for once

I hear you, and thank you for your comment. Perhaps this year I'll try to watch some more movies I hate so we can have a nice parasocial laugh over them. (maybe I'll make myself throw up and start doing Jerry Lewis movies)

I really loved your talk at the end. I think we all get so wound up with engagement and numbers because of the gratification it gets us in the moment but miss the point of why we are doing it in the first place. I only just started to watch your channel but I have really enjoyed your takes on things.

I love your unique format and genuine way of analyzing thematic material. Oddly, you kind of remind me of Justin Chang. Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot regarding many films I've never heard of.

Let's go! NEWS FROM HOME was my first Akerman and I was absolutely floored by it. Made me hug my mom lol. Such a fascinating movie. GREAT companion piece with her 2015 masterpiece, NO HOME MOVIE. It's on my four best Letterboxd.

I was going to watch No Home Movies years ago but got put off by the format! I'll be grateful to revisit it in the future with more Akerman experience under my belt.

thank you for sharing! after randomly stumbling upon your channel reacting to cure, i've enjoyed your insights and your recommendations. your thoughts at the end are so salient! I think I like films for similar reasons, to be able to see and be seen by humanity... but it's only a fraction of what can be experienced in the real world!! here's to watching films in sustainable but vital ways!

I saw more new releases at the cinema than I have in any other year, but still only came away with a small number that I really liked, in fact definitely fewer than in my formative years 11-13 years ago.

What a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing Hank. I've become more and more recluse with each year that passes and have found fulfillment in films, but perhaps it can only give me so much, there must be a cap. I'm missing out on seeing the world,-seeing other people! You've given me a lot to think about it and take in. I'll always love movies, and I'll always make movies and consume them, but in opposition of fear, I will branch out to see the world this year. It will make me a better filmmaker in the end. Thanks again!

Holy crap. In 2022 I watched around 225 movies and I could barely force myself to watch like 10 in 2023. I got so burned out. I actually ended up watching more comedy podcasts on KZbin for the year. I also watched Jeanne Dielman last January and I loved it after thinking about turning it off several times while watching it. The slow, slow, slow burn made the ending much more powerful, especially to see the slow, slow, slow unraveling of the title character.

The burnout is real. Some nights I stare at a list of movies I should be watching, feel procrastination creep in, and by the time tomorrow goes by I have an even longer list of movies to watch that I haven't made a dent in.

It's interesting to hear your thoughts about this film. /I loved it Also, I'm agree with you about the numbers! but I use letterboxd because I like lists and diaries (as memories), but I logged only in 2022 and at first I was so against this app because of the problem you talk in the last part of the video. let's enjoy movies!
