OMG! I FREAKING LOVE THIS MOVIE! fun fact, they filmed on Puerto Rico, close to where I live, for like 5 months. I think I was like 7 at the time, and I got to meet them and talk to them. I love this movie. A lot of the graphics were intentionally bad, to mimic how beach movies looked in the 60's. And then the writing being exactly like how they were written in a bad 60's movie that would have become a cult classic. It's such an easy excuse for bad writing, because it fits for the era they were writing. It's just so good!
@katherinebaxter68702 жыл бұрын
It’s funny because I looked up the film description in a few places and it said it was going to a version of West Side Story, which, no…. I think this is pretty similar in theme/story to Beach Party 1963.

Parental Abandonment: While it is explicitly stated that Mack's mom died several years before the movie started, *there is no mention of her father and she is living in her grandfather's surfboard shop.* Mack also mentions her mom's diary stating she wanted to go to college before Mack was born, *so it is probable that her mother got pregnant in high school* or soon after, and the father didn't stick around.

I don't know if anyone else commented this yet, but the movie they are transported to is "Wet Side Story" which is a play on the musical "West Side Story" and it's what they based the plot on. In West Side Story, there are two gangs constantly fighting over the same territory, and a guy from one gang falls for a girl from the other side and it causes a lot of trouble (so as you can see, similar plots). Just wanted to fill you in, in case you didn't know :)

I’ll never forget watching this when it came out. My mom let me watch it on her big tv in her room and got me dinner before hand because she knew how excited I was for it. And I remember sitting there watching the Liv and Maddie premiere afterwards but just sitting there with excitement about the movie. After that I had my dad make me a CD of the songs and I would sing and dance and blast them on CD player EVERY DAY. it got to the point where my brother and dad still get annoyed hearing Falling For Ya till this day 😭

I remember when I first saw this, I was already out of high school and it had been out for a year so yeah, I was a bit late to the bandwagon. But the singing and dancing was infectious! I spent the entire summer using my free time to learn the choreography for all the performances and it was a blast! And no, I would not want to be trapped in my favorite movie for a very serious reason....it's Titanic...enough said. And you're right, Garrett Clayton(who plays Tanner, the Ken doll boy lol) didn't sing most of the songs for the first movie(although I'm pretty sure he sang his parts in ''Like Me'', but it was Spencer Lee the country artist. It's just like Zac Efron in the first HSM movie who was dubbed by Drew Seeley for most of the songs. As for the weird rock thing...I think she was trying to keep from dancing lol Also fun fact: Most of the wardrobe in this movie, if not all was legit from that era and found in thrift shops and such.

It made me laugh when you talked about the man eyeing the teenager and her hips. In the old 60s beach movies there was often this one particular girl that could literally take people out with a swish of her hips. It was very exaggerated in the old movies and pretty funny. If you are curious about the 60s movies, look up Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon beach movies. I think the one that started it all is Beach Party 9163 but I think one of the most famous is Beach Blanket Bingo. I would love to see you react to one of the old Gidget movies too!

So glad you watched this movie ^u^ This is honestly one of my favorite Disney movies (i'm not much of a Disney fan, so I don't have a lot of favorites). They had their own original idea, despite refencing to movies like Grease, West side story, and Enchanted... well this is more of a reversed Enchanted. Real kids end up in a wolrd of a cheesy Disney classic instead of a princess from a cheesy Disney classic ending up in real world New York. Also, THE GIRL POWER! I like how Mac and Leila supported each other instead of being enemies. Girl power is rare in Disney movies, and especially the "Girls can do anything boys can do" and it's not the cheesy bimbo princess falling in love with dumb hunk prince like in the old movies. (also fun fact; Ross Lynch broke his foot in this movie but still danced flawlessly) also I recommend you get into some of the non-Disney movies! I recommend Chicken Run, The Croods 2 New Age, and One Stormy Night (English dubbed)
