The live action bratz movie is extremely bad. Yasmin is either supposed to be Hispanic or from Iran. So when they went with the Hispanic route it was extremely disappointing as a Hispanic girl to see such stereotypes played on screen. A mariachi band in her kitchen when she wakes up? Actors who aren’t Hispanic? It’s frustrating and extremely disappointing.

Technically the actress is Hispanic in real life (I think she's from Spain), but my issue is that she looks absolutely nothing like the actual Yasmin doll or any of the cartoon versions. It's like they just took any Hispanic actress they could find and used her despite her looking nothing like Yasmin. It's like having Christina Aguilera play Dora just because they're both Hispanic. It doesn't make sense.

To be honest, I've always admired the fact that Bratz went out of their way to show how inclusive they were of everybody no matter their skin tone and that it's okay to wear the makeup and clothes that you want. Even though I was high key obesessed with Barbie as a kid, I felt like being inclusive was a last priority to Mattel.

i don’t understand the point she made here: 21:28 … barbie literally got boycotted due to their lack of representation of diverse women, and the toxic beauty standards it’s been upholding for decades - meanwhile bratz is celebrated to this day for it’s diversity and fashion freedom, with the “bratz aesthetic” becoming more prevalent in today’s fashion world. she says it’s “funny when you look at where barbie is today in comparison to where bratz is today”, like bratz hasn’t made a complete comeback, while barbie remains nostalgia for majority of people.

Sad thing is once Mattel puts out a doll brand-some movies and/or tv show that shit is amazing (ex: Bratz, Monster High, Ever After High (who is argue had the best tv show out of my list of examples/such an amazing plot), but then they try to change it cause they keep listening to fucking Karen’s and shit and then eventually ruin it all together by rebooting it, instead of keeping it how it originally was cause they seem to forget how it OG was I’d the reason it became popular in the first place. Big example is Bratz but mostly Monster High (it’s so sad to see them turn my favorite gothic monsters instead bright neon dolls), EAH is discontinued cause of Descendants. And well Barbie was actually okay-love the movies and dolls as a kid but they plummeted too. Mattel just takes away the one thing that made the doll-line popular in the first place. If you want to keep an old business flourishing you have to remember and keep in mind what made that brand popular in the first place? Why did people like it? And never forget that.

I agree I don’t remember having a lot of BRATZ dolls-I remember being more obsessed with Barbie and Monster High, I was more into the TV Show and Movies than the actual doll-line. In fact a lot of times I’m interested in the movies and tv shows more: BRATZ: 20% Dolls (I was born in 2004 and I think by that time they weren’t making a lot of BRATZ dolls, there were still some in the stores but not much); 80% tv show and movies (except live action fuck that) Barbie: 8% movies 0% tv shows and 92% doll-line Monster High: 67% doll-line; 33% webisodes/movies. Which is kind of fair I was OBSESSED WITH THE DOLLS! But I was also obsessed with the tv show/movies just slightly less than the dolls Ever After High: 7% dolls (I think I had like only 2 or 3 of them); 93% tv show (the show had such an amazing plot, too bad the crossover movie that was planned with old Monster High never happened would’ve made Mattel hella money and brought even more dolls to both series’)

honestly i feel like the whole thing with parents not liking bratz and saying they're bad role models is playing into misogyny. like if a girl is into fashion it makes her dim and a "brat" which is absolutely sexist

Loved this list! Absolutely agree w/ #1, especially w/ ur Jade “losing her fashion sense” commentary, I was SICK when I saw her final look for Prom 😭, it was just so bland compared to what she was coming up with at the mall, what a missed opportunity for Jade

I love that there’s an entire consensus that the Bratz dolls were “bad influences” and “too sexy” so they made baby versions.

I honestly didn’t know it was that many movies. Just knew of the Bratz: The Movie (Live Action) and Bratz: Rock Angelz LOL and personally I like the live action. As teenagers, my best friend and I always wanted to be the Bratz. I was Cloe and she was Sasha but we could never find our Yazmin or Jade so there’s that 😆😆 thanks for this movie...lots of memories

The plot of the live action is superficial but I did like some of their outfits plus the song the bratz preformed in the talent show was good. I hold no nostalgia for bratz as I never had one. I definitely prefer the barbie movies.
@nataliawashington8723 жыл бұрын
The live action movie was…meh-got their personalities all wrong, love the song tho. I had tons of Barbie dolls as a kid and watched some movies but I never feel nostalgic when seeing the dolls. I however loved Bratz and the movies and dolls (even tho I didn’t have many)

I love Barbie but I really gravitated to Bratz due to the diversity and glamour. They looked like me, and they dressed like how the beautiful girls in my culture dress like. Street style and diverse friendships are more my life. I still Stan all of the Barbie princess incarnations (Swan Lake the most) but Bratz is just more me

'Bratz Starrin' & Stylin' is my favorite Bratz movie too, and 'Bratz Rock Angelz' is my second favorite because of the music and I thought the plot was better. Speaking of the live-action 'Bratz' movie, I was not happy with how they portrayed Dylan and Cameron because they look nothing like their animated counterparts and their personalities did not match either. Cameron wouldn't hang out with the villains, what the heck?!?! And Dylan's character was portrayed as soft-spoken and down-to-earth, while the animated Dylan is more outgoing and a ladies man in a way. So yeah I was mad about that! I wish they portrayed the Bratz girls' individual interests in the TV show because Jade liking science, Cloe a jock, Yasmin a singer, and Sasha a cheerleader; yeah that came out of nowhere! At least they portrayed Sasha's love for music/hip hop though.
@JustAnIntrovertedGirl3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the interests are totally out of nowhere. At least for Cloe or Sasha - Sasha has always been shown to be passionate for music (and she would break out in dance often!) so cheerleading isn't that much of a jump, and Cloe has always been portrayed as the more tomboy-ish of the group so I don't think it's a surprise to make her a jock. Yasmin being a singer is a bit of a leap (but at least they got her passion for journalism!). The problem with Jade, is while it's great they got the fashion aspect of her character, part of me believes the Science and the Math is kinda just stereotyping because of the Asian parents.

21:30 if I remember right, Mattel sued MGA saying Bratz was made by their designer when he still worked for them and got Bratz, Barbies biggest competition, pulled off of the shelves because since they couldn't win in sales (enter their MyScene brand) they decided to leave no choice. Bratz were only allowed back on shelves years later when MGA won a counter-sue but by then their OMG line took off. Barbie isn't more relevant through hard work or standing the test of time in the case of the Bratz, she's only relevant because she kidnapped the competition until new competition came out and considering Bratz were made by a jaded ex-Barbie maker the jabs are all well earned. Barbie continues to mostly stay relevant by copying MGA now with the EXTRA Barbies for OMG and a new set of rainbow Barbies obviously trying to mimic the Rainbow High dolls either without realizing why they're successful or just hoping parents will buy them by mistake or because they're cheaper.
@mr.icecream78804 жыл бұрын
21:39 wait wait, Bratz is no longer around because Mattel sued MGA. So Bratz never died out but abrubtly ended because Mattel forced them to. Mga would have continued to remain successful if it wasn't for the case since Bratz were unique and different from Barbies. Right now people look back to Bratz and wish they wouldn't have gone away so I believe they would have remained very succesful. In regards to movies, I think Barbie takes the cake tho . So pretty much mattel played dirty
