I watched every Jontay Porter Play so you don't have to just to share his most suspicious plays this season. Jontay Porter is the middle of a serious investigation involving the NBA, betting sites, and even provincial law enforcement for allegedly betting/gambling on Unders on prop bets of himself breaking the NBA's Anti-Gambling policy. Porter may be banned from the NBA and could possibly get arrested.

Hes gotta be the dumbest player that has ever played in the NBA. Betting under limits him to showing his skill and potentially signing a real contract that would make him X more money than the stupid bets

I agree, but this is also a pretty unique case where he was likely not going to get another NBA contract after anyways and he's really not that good. He's just a two-way player and really only getting minutes because most of the Raptors' roster was injured and were starting to tank. Jontay Porter's also really just on the last legs of his NBA career as well considering his injury history. He made his NBA debut in 2021, but only played 11 games with the Grizzlies. But in college at Missouri, he tore an ACL before his sophomore season and tore it again and an MCL while rehabbing in early 2019. He went undrafted and didn't play in the NBA over the previous two seasons. It must've seemed like he didn't really have anything to lose and might as well maximize what he could with his time left in the NBA

With him being a bench player he probably wasnt guaranteed to even get the minutes to attempt to get the over. Regardless he's dumb for betting on himself and his team and especially sharing the info with someone who tried to turn it into a million dollar bet. Guy played 2 seasons as a bench player in the NBA and made 2.5m, and only made 20K off betting. Really terrible math

I wonder if the games that he trying to play well in were ones he didn't bet at all since it would be pretty risky betting overs on himself with limited and irregular playing time.

That's a good point, it was also mostly in his initial games as a Raptor so was likely just trying impress to get more minutes. He even got to start a few games after too! Ironically playing more opened the door for him to prop bet on himself

I think hes working with the league to create a storyline that makes it seem like the league takes sports gambling seriously and reacts appropriately to it. No one would be as asinine to do what he did.
