@@stmando Yes I think they dropped the "summoners rift" thingy halfway through From what I understood at first they tried to have an actual lore about the summoners rift, where summoners (the players, and the guys with orbs in the first cinematic) were controlling champions You can hear a lot of the old champions refer to the player as "summoner" and talk to them, like Brand, Cho'gath, Sona... The old characters didn't really have any lore, they were more like mythical beings imprisoned in the "summoners rift" to be controlled by players in fights Now they kinda dropped this concept and instead the characters are part of an actual lore where they interact with each other, but now the summoners rift makes no sense because how the hell would Lucian and Thresh team up to beat up Senna and Viego ? So yeah they really had a big change in directions, and this is without mentioning the multiple smaller retcons

About the side-eye: In this cinematic Kayle and Morgana together (each has one sword) formed the aspect of Justice (I think Garen's ult channels Kayle's power), inherited from their mother. Kayle's throwing shade because Morgana is using her magic instead of her celestial aspect. When Kayle picks up the second sword, she's temporarily the full aspect of justice, letting her perform her evolution from the game where she gets ranged attacks.

Ex- Vainglory player here, I played it before I knew what League was. Vainglory things I learned early: play each character, get used to them, learn their strengths and weaknesses. So if someone snipes your main, you have a back up If someone snipes your back up? I really miss the old lore of League of legends, rewatching the early cinematic. The concept of powerful mages called "summoners" (hence the "summoner spells") controlling the battlefield from some remove location as if they're playing games with real people and/or creatures lives, is genuinely interesting. So many champions early lore was tied to the concept that you the player were one of these "summoners" guiding and controlling your specific "champion" that you've chosen to represent you in battle (like a gladiator fight). Main one being Nocturne, who's entire lore was that one of these "summoners" got too greedy and tried to summon him to this world one day, couldn't control him, and now this ancient evil is released back into the world. So much potential drama and stakes, with certain human characters "signing up" to be a champion in these battles, risking life and limb for some deeply personal reason, It's genuinely kinda like the appeal of watching Squid game. I do think a lot of good interesting world building and lore have been established due to the ret-con, but it felt so cheap when they suddenly abandoned the entire original story concept of League, and for literal a year at least, would leave many champions just without any lore. They should have at least waited until they had a more solid plan before burning it all to the ground, leaving anyone even slightly related in the lore of the game completely just in the dark, not knowing if their favourite character would be the same person any more. You can say what you like about the old lore compared to the new, but I liked that the old lore gave every single champion at least an implied reason for fighting each other in game. Have two characters who are friends, family, or even lovers on opposite teams? Well, they're in an arena fight, they were unlucky and ended up being pitted against each other. Why do champions respawn when they die anyways? Well, it's those "summoners" bringing them back, playing with their lives. The context that the old lore added to each game, made it feel like there was actually some reason behind what was happening beyond it just "being a game".
