On the point of Delicious in Dungun seemingly not being worried about the sister being dead, I think that comes from a line we get in episode one. Marcille says when the slime attacks her something along the lines "this is how i died the first time". This implies that Marcille and probably the rest of the party have all died multiple times. Ad on an other line from episode 1 about being able to revive someone from scraps and I think that combination is why they are not rushing. They know they have a couple of weeks before she can not be saved and are as a result treating it like a marathon instead of a sprint.
@sparklesparklesparkle63189 ай бұрын
yeah they realize that the only way to get back to her is slow and steady. If they rush they'll probz die and have to start all over. We have a saying, "Slow is Smooth. Smooth is Fast."
@arashimiyazawa81659 ай бұрын
And it's not like they don't explicitly state why they are stopping to hunt/gather vegetables/cook/etc. They lost all their gear in the dragon fight, and don't have time to earn the money it would take to buy more, so the cooking show stuff IS the faster way.
@Raidanzoup9 ай бұрын
Oh, to me it's not even the "has anyone been brought back from poop" line, but the "the dragon sleeps for a long time as it digests its meal" line giving us a longer timeline to work with.

Yeah, the manga used this as a mystery box, but this version doesn't try and hide it at all. Heck, the episode with Living Armor shows it off. We SEE our knight die in that one, and they talk about how leaving bodies will have people pick them up and take them to the surface, and even has the hobbit hope they do better next time at one point when talking about them coming back in.

Haven't seen a comment explaining so far, so I'll bite haha - the joke behind Cherry Magic's title and him getting powers is an old Japanese meme from its equivalent of 4chan that basically is what it says - if you hit 30 (or 25 in some circles) a virgin, you get magic powers. What those magic powers are supposed to be is never explained, it's nerd humor poking fun at themselves for being social shut-ins - "well it's fine if I never get a girlfriend, in fact it'll give me magic powers so, oppositely, let's stay single for life! (Normies should all explode!)" The author just thought to themselves "well what if this meme actually DID happen to people" and wrote a very cute BL story from it, is all haha. Very heartwarming, fully recommend it!

I will say in defense of Delicious in Dungeons "main" plot, its been pretty well established that resurrecting people aint that big of a deal. Plus given how long it takes to get down there, yeah that "rush" gets pushed to the side but the breaks they take are understandable if a bit goofy at times. Still charming as hell tho
@Zhiroc9 ай бұрын
IIRC, after escaping the dragon, they're broke so they can't afford to get enough rations to go through the dungeon to the dragon again, and thus that's why they are eating monsters.
@Eyro_Elloyn9 ай бұрын
Yup, the entire reason they're taking their time is because it will probably take 2 weeks or more to even reach deep enough to begin even searching. They just need the body before it completely decomposes. In fact, the character has probably even died before, considering the other characters mention they have. So death isn't as big a deal, and the timeframe is a whole ass month.

One nice thing about the Weakest Tamer is, as cutesy as she is, the main character actually acts like someone from a Medieval fantasy world. She makes a living by trapping small game. And not the kind of small game that pops into bubbles and leaves drop items behind but the kind you have to drain the blood from, gut and skin. They don't show the details but the fact that they acknowledge it and have her think it's perfectly normal rather than going full Disney princess is a novel approach.

There was a really interesting post about dungeon meshi's care freeness about death I saw where like: they live in a world where people can just be revived endlessly as long as you have their body. Dragons digest really really slowly as mentioned so like, they only have to get to and kill the dragon sometime within the next 4 months or whatever? And she can be revived. All of the main cast mention offhandedly times they have died before, so like. If you lived in a world like that, death would seem far far less permanent and thus. Why rush? Additionally, one of the main reasons they lost the fight versus the dragon last time is they were underfed and out of supplies. So by taking their time, they're actually still going to get there in time but also have way higher likelihood of actually being able to defeat said dragon when they do get there. So there is actual lore implications and reasoning for it, which I find personally both silly but also incredibly interesting.

But as for this otome/shoujo-esque/ villainess/ isekai-ish genre, this is one of the better ones, especially lately, because it's not just overturning the expectations others place on them (she already did that in her previous lives).

okay, I'm not going to say The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic is must watch or anything, but if you give it a few episodes you'll see that it has something most isekai do not have - good character writing. The main guy, Usato, starts out seeming like a standard mediocre isekai protagonist, but his hidden virtue which is brought out by Rose's crazy training is that he's bloody stubborn. He gets knocked down and he gets up again. also he gets an adorable pet bear cub. also the student council president girl, Suzune, is ABSOLUTELY PUMPED TO BE ISEKAI'D. like, it's the best thing to ever happen to her. also Rose is really cool. She seems scary, and she is scary, but also she respects Usato's efforts and after ascertaining his personality, has faith in his ability to be a combat rescue medic. and may I say, that being the protagonist's calling actually is unique for an isekai. Usato isn't in this to kill the demons - he's getting stronger so he can carry wounded soldiers off the front lines in the heat of battle.

13:41 GOLDEN KAMUY SPOTTED. you have activated my favorite show hyperfixation, and I actually have a lot to say about the way food is utilized in that show! food is actually a hugely important thematic element to Golden Kamuy, as it relates to the humanization/dehumanization of people. in the very first scene of the anime, we see Sugimoto eat an ant because he's starving. he then says that he'll take a bite out of a Russian soldier if he has to, just to stay alive. already this tells us so much about the conditions in war. they take a bunch of men, dress them all the same, equip them all the same, and expect a percentage of them never to come back. it doesn't really matter if they're well fed, because a dead soldier with a full belly is just a waste. and within an environment like this, Sugimoto Saichi becomes Sugimoto, the Immortal. by the time Sugimoto leaves the war, he's created a reputation for himself. he's found a way to distinguish himself, even amongst a purposefully homogenized group of expendable men. but that distinction hasn't really carried over into anything prosperous for him now. the place he used to occupy as a civilian has evaporated while he was away, and even his attempt to earn money for the wife of his childhood friend, feels like he's just clinging onto the last vestiges of a life that isn't his own anymore. enter Asirpa... a girl from a uniquely different culture to his own, who starts caring about him in a way he hasn't felt since before he left to go fight. and this is interesting in a bunch of ways, especially when it comes to their differing philosophies on killing, and the appropriate moral weight of that act... but as the two start to see eye to eye, one of the biggest binding forces for the two of them are their shared meals. and this even makes a really interesting detour into the philosophy around hunting. at one point, Sugimoto fails to kill a deer and starts hardcore empathizing with it, because of its sheer determination to remain alive. it is extremely helpful for him to realize, through Asirpa, that the life they're taking is meaningful, valuable, and taken with care and consideration for a beneficial purpose. but then consumption as a metaphor for humanization/dehumanization also helps to create the foil relationship between Asirpa and Tsurumi. early in season 2, we learn in a conversation between Tsurumi and Arisaka, that Arisaka is an arms dealer, and Tsurumi is growing poppies for the production of morphine. and this is directly before they go to see Nikaidou in the hospital... a man who has been repeatedly thrown into conflict after conflict by Tsurumi, was damaged, and is now addicted to morphine. it's just such a perfect metaphor for what Tsurumi does. he looks for unhinged, damaged, or broken men... sometimes he breaks them himself, while other times he preys upon the population of broken people that war naturally produces... and then he simultaneously tells them that they're special, and that nobody else would want them or understand them, except for him. these men are psychologically different. normal people can tell. normal people will never accept them. the war fucked them up too badly, or they were already sick in the head to begin with, and they have nowhere to belong in polite society. but Tsurumi can offer them a sense of community. he sees the beauty in what they are, without them needing to change one bit. Tsurumi only wants the best... he sees these men as uniquely capable. they're exactly what he's looking for. gone is the sense that you are one in a homogenous mass of equally expendable bodies... Tsurumi has glorious purpose for you. he believes in you. so much, that he'll send you into violence. it's a challenge, you see, but you're up to the task... he can tell. and then, when you get hurt... when you come back broken, and battered, and even more psychologically deranged than you were before, he will still open his arms to you. he is a balm to help ease the pain of whatever has harmed you... the very things he sent you to go confront in the first place. each new bit of damage makes you less and less palatable to normal people, but who needs them anyway? this is how Tsurumi creates a dependency between his men, and the validation he provides for them. this is how Tsurumi creates an addiction. Arisaka is an arms dealer, and Tsurumi produces morphine. send them out with their guns, get them hurt, take them back and patch them up, and soothe them with an addictive substance that they'll always come back to, no matter how many times you hurt them worse. when Arisaka and Tsurumi visit Nikaidou in the hospital, they literally bring him a prosthetic with a gun in it. the pipeline is super visible here. and so we have two characters, Tsurumi and Asirpa, who each create a sense of community through consumption. one is a healthy community, wherein eating meals together signifies a type of care that rehabilitates the souls of men who have been treated as expendable. the other is a type of cult-like fanaticism, where the addictive quality of the environment eats these men right back, and they clamor over the one central object of their obsession so much that any potential for community is swallowed up by petty, competitive animosity. Sugimoto used to be permeated by war. he ate, slept, and breathed war, soaked it into his skin with every scar, and could not escape the way it changed him. Asirpa is the civilian that looked at him, even as he was after the war, and still saw a person that she wanted to be her friend. Tsurumi is wrong... even broken men are not ruined for any other prospect they could ask for in life. the place they used to occupy may be gone, for a great many of them, and they may never be able to get it back. even if the hole they left behind was still there... they've changed. it wouldn't fit them anymore anyway. but it is still possible to create a new place for yourself to belong. and that is what Asirpa allows people to do when they're with her. by teaching people about her culture, she gently re-integrates them into a peaceful society. she lets them feel the benefits of actually living in the world. food carries culture. people carry culture. and by getting to know Sugimoto, and Sugimoto getting to know her... we are allowed to see the first and most distressing thing that war is liable to destroy.

Much like with _My Happy Marriage_ this is the second time that a Netflix-licensed anime series is being simuldubbed and released on the same day as the Japanese release worldwide and with an English dub along with several others languages as well. Not to mention that the best advantage of both _My Happy Marriage_ and _Delicious in Dungeon_ being released weekly worldwide on Netflix on the same day as the Japanese release, this will lead to more weekly discussions and "word of mouth" within the anime community that would last for 3-4 weeks perhaps months but could also lead to gifs and memes from both shows. However I’m curious and perplexed as to why Netflix were able to simuldub those particular anime series but not simuldub _Pokemon Horizons_ and especially _Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse?_ Hopefully Netflix will continue to simuldub and license more future anime and release them on the same day as the Japanese version.

The “villainess” in 7th Loop is referred to as such in the title because Rishe’s character is the type that would normally occupy an antagonistic role to a different MC in an otome game. The whole breaking off the engagement thing at the start is something that very commonly happens to the villainess character in these games. It’s just that this story only uses a loose otome-game-like framework to begin its story while never actually giving any indicator that this is an otome game world, so viewers who aren’t already familiar with otome game tropes and archetypes would be confused by the title.

Wrong way to heal is an interesting read. It takes healing as more holistic than most media. It does ultimately turn into an op hero story. But because of grueling training...endured on account of healing. Which does at least give justification to being op.
@jeffreymeehan35679 ай бұрын
Wrong Way to use Healing Magic is actually pretty good. It's an isekai that isn't an audience-insert power fantasy, it's not afraid to actually be funny, it doesn't depend on any characters having to hold the stupid ball, and the various characfer actually have decent, interesting, and likeable personalities. And yes, that sounds like a low bar, but that's kinda where the isekai genre is at for most offerings. It isn't something ground-breaking, though having a character with healing powers actually being trained primarily to be a field medic is fairly novel. It's an enjoyable watch at the very least and at least deserving of a chance. Also, Rose reminds me of Mereoleona from Black Clover, and that's always a plus in my book.

Dungeon Meshi is easily one of my favorite manga of all time. It starts off great and from a certain point onwards it becomes insane and it doesn't stop. The world building is excellent and the character designs from Ryoko Kui are unmatched. I don't think it will have any issues competing with the similar stories mentioned that popped up over the past decade. It carves out its own niche and has a wonderful fantasy story which can stand up on its own. Definitely check it out if you haven't already!
@SergentInvictus9 ай бұрын
How does the plot get later on? My first impressions after watching the first 4 episodes of the anime on netflix is that while the characters are fun, the worldbuilding is REALLY good, and the story seems like it could get interesting, it feels like the food aspect is always holding it back, and the by far the most boring part of the anime to me so far. It would be fine if the scenes were done sparingly or after some big victory, but it was exhausting constantly having to halt progress on world building or plot progression so we can look at the wonders of food such as B R E A D, F A R M I N G, and C H I C K E N, and proceeding to watch the characters gush out about how good it is like literally every anime food scene ive ever seen.

My Instant Death Ability is better than you think. It's not about challenging the main character, it's the world they get summoned to. Apparently, people from our world get summoned there all the time. 3 of the students from the MC's field trip bus had already had your standard Isekai adventure there. 90% of the class get a magic power download (maybe virus) and told they need to become SAGES, super powerful beings that can fight off INVADERS. If you are experiencing Elden Ring vibes, you're in good company. SAGES, because of their power, are all JERKS. And the MC's classmates are becoming just like them. One thing for certain is they are not making HEROS. The mix of genres is interesting, too. In some regard, it is your typical Isekai world (medieval fantasy), but there are trains, and trucks, and zombie hordes. Oh, and shadow giants, mech suit invaders, vampires, etc. The Overpowered Protagonist is the least interesting part of the show. I do like the philosophical arguments he has with his classmate about when and who he kills. It seems the governments of Japan and the USA have been monitoring him. Next to Solo Leveling, it's my favorite anime this season.

15:46 in the show's defense: it's shown time and again that death isn't really a big deal in this world. So they not rushing ahead like they're on the soccer team cave rescue makes sense.

Sasaki and Peeps was awesome, that hour long first episode went to prove the studio knew they had a banger of a show this season! Worth a watch, Unwanted Undead is great, Fluffy Paradise was okay(better if you've got kids), Gushing over Magical Girls is hilarious, anyone who didn't get a chuckle is a sadboy! Strongest Tank anime is your average fantasy blah blah blah, but if you enjoy that trash I'll be waiting for you in the dumpster! The weakest tamer surprisingly got a SimuDub this season but I've enjoyed it so far, wholesome in a similar manner to Ascendance of a bookworm, the isekai part I don't get as it seems more like a past life living in her head rather than her own memories.. It's different than the norm, similar to Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles where the memories aren't part of them but usable by them.. Though we've been scarred by healing magic anime, Healing Magic wrong way is fun, dumb but better than most the isekai this season.. The best healing anime was The Great Cleric but I doubt we'll get a S2 of that series, check it out if you want a better isekai healing anime!

Time Loops have been their own sub genre for quite a while. We're seeing more now as more Korean Villainess stories are making their way into anime form. Usually they call it "Returner" or sometimes"Regression" genre. Ala "A Returner's Magic Should be Special". In Korean of course they use the term 귀환자의 or Gwihwanja a term originally used for someone who left their home (or often home country to live overseas for a time) and has now returned home, thus the English Translations using the term "Returner/Returnee", or in Japanese 帰還者 (Kikan-sha). Expect to see a lot more, it's a massively booming genre in manga/manhwa right now, so I'm sure the future years of anime will be filled with them.

For once, manga fans wished upon a star and not a monkey's paw. _The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic_ - like others here, I would suggest you stick it out with this one. The interaction between the leads proves to be better thought out than the average, the main character is powerful but not OP like other series you spoke of here, and honesly Rose is a lot better after you learn more about her. To be fair, Instant Death is less about the protagonist's journey, but about the slow revelation of what the protagonist truly is and how the plot unfolds as the world reacts to him being there. Basically, much like Death in Puss in Boots, Takatou Yogiri is straight up the END. A literal universe devouring eldritch entity is playing with its food via having its avatar futzing about in the world, accidentally picks a fight with the MC, and gets annihilated. That's the scale we're dealing with. Or rather, that's what we get to see the other characters slowly discern and grapple with. Yogiri is a cosmic horror basically. I don't know how well the anime conveys this as i haven't had the chance to watch it yet, but the manga is actually really interesting, I recommend you check it out. It has a very drrr! So the whole “main character has knowledge of future events because time travel” is practically its own genre in webtoons and Korean comics. Sometimes it’s time travel, a lot of the time they’re reincarnated into a novel they read (probably the most common) or a game they played. Basically anything that gives them knowledge of future events, save for actually giving them the ability to see into the future ironically enough. Seeing how a lot more of webtoons are getting anime adaptations, be prepared to see WAY more shows like this in the future.

Believe it or not, villainess 99 has some really interesting metatextual subtext which explores the concept of this world being based on the game. They kind of explore how the game is just one point of view into this much more fleshed out world because of course, there is no way that a game could encapsulate a complete world and all of the characters inside of it. All of the other based on a game shows tend to avoid this but not this show, and it's actually quite refreshing (I've been reading for a year or so). I can't speak to how the anime will address these things but It does really set this show apart from a lot of the other isakai villainess shows. The main character is also extremely fun to watch, given how much absurd stuff she gets into. Let's just say that they really lean into the fact that she's basically the most powerful character in the story but not in a really predictable and silly way. Weakest tamer is another show where I read the original source before it aired, they've changed a few things or at least they've moved them around but it's a really cute and simultaneously horrifying story. The main character and the sub characters are extremely endearing and some really heinous stuff happens to the MC but somehow she still continues on. I'm not sure how far they will get this season but there are certainly some interesting story elements at play here. Also, she is actually the weakest timer; this is not a bait and switch where she's secretly impossibly powerful etc. By the way neither of these things are spoilers... A lot of this stuff is already come up in both of these shows to some degree.

@@kageyame I found out about BBB a couple days ago and I'm not going to give it a shot because I'm already watching 18 other shows this season as well as 3 anime from the 2010s. I keep telling myself I won't do this anymore but then I just keep doing it! D:

@@kageyame The protagonist of Bucchigiri has caused two men (so far) to fall in love with him by punching them in the face. It's not a squint and you can maybe see it through the subtext thing, it's the actual literal text. The first one's manbun literally turned into a heart.

Bucchigiri is honestly super entertaining lol

My favorites this season(not counting continuations like Friend). Metallic Rouge, I wish more people give it a shot since it is really good. Right now it seems like it will become like Re: Creators by being a very good anime hidden gem. The wrong way to use healing magic Dungeon Meshi Witch and the Beast Undead Unwanted Then I haven’t seen some, like Gushing, rings, or tamer.

As a manga reader for Mato Slave It actually does get more Intresting when it focuses more on Shounen and meathead elements

I read the manga and I'm really happy with the adaptation. It has almost the exact same feel as the manga panels. You can tell the animators really loved the source material.

I just finished Cherry Magic. It's effing adorable. It's a romance-focus anime so don't expect any deep story plot or complex world building from the wizard angle, but the romance itself is well done and enjoyable. I like that the characters are full-grown working adults, so they talk out their problems and communicate their feelings after a fight instead of wallowing in dumb, angsty misunderstandings for longs periods of time. It's a refreshing watch. Fujoshis everywhere will love this one. One of the better BL anime in recent years.

There should be a new genre called "play or die" and add to it: Solo leveling Sword art online Btooom And whatever else the future holds ...

The reference in the mahjong show probably wasn't to Kaiji, but Akagi, an entirely mahjong-focused manga by the same author as Kaiji.

Definitely keep Solo Leveling. Web toon reader here - this isn't your cup of tea I already know and is shallow in story and concept but its well worth the wait in terms of a VERY slow start that the anime is having right now. The webtoon was adored and loved by fans for it's art, OPM level he attains, and especially the types of powers he can use and how effective it really is. It also adds to the side characters, story, and is overall just really unique. Hard to describe without spoilers, yes he obtains OP levels with the OPM comment but you already know its gonna happen in this genre XD. Just wait for "Arise" and thank me later :)

DUDE I LOVE YOU AND YOUR VIDEOS. I’ve been watching you for years and you’re the only anime reviewer I watch. Your voice, your humor, your intelligence , EVERYTHING IS PERFECT. I haven’t watched the video yet, just wanted to say that

I think Solo Leveling does a bad job at explaining some stuff, like Jinwoo is meant to be stronger than a normal human, all hunters are, even if they are super weak by hunter standards. By human standards Jinwoo is still supernaturally strong, fast and supernatural stamina. Personally I usefully dislike the OP main character trope too but I found Jinwoo's story very satisfying and I especially enjoyed the reasoning behind his abilities that was eventually revealed as well. But without that reveal I enjoyed his character and found him very likeable but I think thats because I'm used to watching anime which have a complete good guy as the MC (like Deku, who I got very bored with) so Jinwoo's anger at being left behind as well as other moments (that haven't come up yet) felt like a breath of fresh air too me but I think thats because I don't watch loads of anime.
