I'll try to explain this one. Madame Web was plagued with reshoots and rewrites. Dakota Johnson signed on to a different script before they scrapped it. Sony Pictures rumored to have misled the cast, saying they were signing up for the MCU. If you're wondering why the villain's mouth didn't match up with the dialog, it is because they replaced the real actor's voice with a different one and didn't have the time to get right in-post. This is basically Sony Pictures trying to make a quick cash grab to keep the Spider-Man film rights. Fun fact when the first trailer hit the web,Dakota fired her agent and agency.

You'll be fine with across the Spiderverse because all you really need to know beforehand is that Spiderman, Peter Parker, exists. Okay and Sony has Spiderman related stuff that is of Marvel but this is definitely a Sony movie. Almost every one of their newer super-related movies are garbage.

@BriarPatchNyra Into the Spider-verse is phenomenal. I have the minority opinion on Across the Spider-verse. I actually left the cinema pissed, because it started strongly then dropped the ball. But I am talking primarily about the live-action Sony Spider-verse movies. Also, the only truly bad MCU film is The Eternals. The weakest good MCU is Thor : Love and Thunder. I don't jump on the MCU hate-bandwagon.

The thing about Ben and his sister being pregnant is that in the Spider-Man lore: Peter Parker gets his superpowers after witnessing his Uncle Ben die. And since Ben's sister Mary Parker is pregnant in this movie, we're left to assume that she's about to give birth to Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man.

I just find it funny how being bit by a spider gives everyone the exact same inspiration for a suit. Even in the amazon, this tribe that has little contact with the outside world feels the sudden urge to all wear spider suits in the same style as the villain twenty years later, the villain's enemies ten years after that and even a just born baby will suddenly be inspired to wear the same suit 16 years later. Sony just can't resist inserting every shred of the Character's IP that they can even if it doesn't make sense.

I liked that Cassie felt disconnected to other people around her because of her upbringing instead of being a woman who was written please others. She found herself with more responsibilities and took some time to deal with that instead of jumping into it willing with open arm as women tend to be written. She was disconnected and numb.

Im not gonna go on my marvel nerd rant, so to sum up what I personally recommend, Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse are perfect movies, like they’re genuinely some of the best not only animated movies but movies period, they’re that good. And as long as you know who Peter Parker/Spiderman is as a character, that’s all the prior knowledge you need. This movie is a Sony movie in association with marvel, so not directly linked to the MCU but has tie-ins, and that’s also why it’s… not great lol. All Sonys live action spider universe movies have been pretty poorly received (least hated is definitely Venom), but I personally still think they’re fun enough to enjoy despite being bad films. I completely understand how daunting tackling the MCU can be because it is a TON of content, but I genuinely believe that it’s all so well done, so entertaining, so full of love and care (some may disagree with that but idc I love it all) that you’ll become so attached to the characters that it’ll feel like a breeze getting through, especially if you just like having fun with movies and stories. From beginning to end, watching both the movies and the shows even to the stuff that releases recently has been such a fun ride and it’s very easily to get emotionally attached. PLUS, it’s like an automatic easy fanbase for KZbin reactors. So needless to say, I think starting the marvel journey would be really fun.

With ATSV while it does go into a deep analysis of what it means to hold the mantle of Spider-Man and a super hero in general, and does call back to a lot of iterations of the character from different media the movie presents it well enough that even watchers who haven’t been long time fans can understand. So I definitely think you should still check it out and react to it.

I genuinely like nearly everything I watch, and I can firmly say that I enjoyed watching this movie, BUT, that’s not because it’s a good movie whatsoever lol. There’s never been a marvel project I haven’t thought was good (even Morbius) but this movie was such a mess that I genuinely don’t know how or why it was released. I wanted it to be a good movie, but I only ended up enjoying it because of how hilariously bad it was. I was fighting tears trying not to crack up in the theater which I don’t think was the intention, but it still made me enjoy it. Knowing that, I can 1000% see why critics and the public were trashing this movie.

I'm a bit late to the party, but Spiderverse doesn't really need much outside knowledge! If you do have outside knowledge of the characters it makes a more enjoyable experience, but on it's own it's still very good! All you'd need to do to watch "Across the Spider-verse" is watch the first movie "Into the Spider-verse," because that establishes the characters seen in the second movie and the main protagonist, Miles
