The original Japanese title is "The military chronicles of a little girl". The title was changed to "The saga of Tanya the evil" in english, because it sounded better. Therefore there is no reason to think Tanya must be evil (she is not)

To her superiors, she's lawful neutral on the edge of lawful evil because she'll follow orders to accomplish the mission, but will push the boundaries of the rules of war without technically committing a war crime. To everyone else, they definitely see her as lawful evil because she's ruthless.

@@PatrixBest Yes & No. Yes, they were giving her orders to implement what she wrote. However, No, because she was also going beyond what they ordered her. Tanya was the one who gave the order to attack the (Romanian, can't remember what they called it) capitol at night when she gave the warning in her childlike voice. Tanya gave the order to shoot the civilians that were being escorted out of the town, although she justified it when they shot prisoners & didn't evacuate when given the warning. Tanya gave the order to attack opposition posts simply because they were looking for pasta ingredients, & she managed to make that look strategic. Finally, she gave the order to attack Moscow ("They're commies. Blow them up for all I care"), but she took it a step further by videotaping them singing their national anthem on the roof of the Kremlin, destroying any chance of them surrendering because they were so humiliated. Tanya has a tendency to go just a little too far without crossing the line.

The art style has a reason - when they were busy with the series, the author said that under no circumstances was Tanya allowed to be cute. Seeing that she is a tiny little blonde girl, they had to take some artistic decisions.

This is one of my Top 5 anime up there with Overlord. They aren't Nazis, they're more like WW1 Germany Also Tanya the Evil is just the English Title, the actual name is something like "Military Chronicles of a little Girl"

In this timeline. It is never mention in the anime. It's not the Empire who started the war but the norden (The Norway and sweden of this timeline) Which is a border skirmish gone to far. Which led to chain of events leading the countries in war. If i remember correctly it is a miss bombarded in one of the border which hit a coastal city which lead the empire into mobilization and lead the Francois Republic to make a surprise attack to the empire. (Which basically what happen to Finland and Soviet union in winter war)

Anime unfortunately strongly changed the ending of this episode. Tanya would never put them on purpose to die. In manga and LN she just shoved them into backlines and forgot about them. Tanya actually views everyone including herself as human resource thus putting them to die is a waste which she hates

Well its not that she put them there to die, she put them there cause its a dangerous position where they cant really do harm to her own side with their order-defying shenanigans. That they wound up dead was not unexpected and means two other soldiers, hopefully more helpful to the cause, get to live. After all they where disobeying orders in wartime Twice, once during an engagement and then again when they refused to be sent back for training... So by law and pretty much any other metric Tanya did the right thing by putting them where their idiocy could only harm themselves. I do agree though the anime clearly hams it up in this episode for non sensical reasons.

It is quite effective for a first episode of an anime. Until of course I read the manga knowing her personality more and her dynamic with other people, and of course that the original title is "the war diary of a little girl".

Season 2 has bene in production hell since pre-covid. However at this time Tanya 2 is the studio's only current project so they are literally heavy-focused on it right now. Soon(tm) is defiantly the phrase of choice for it atm though...

Honestly his geography knowledge of Europe is top notch for American since there are some that dont even know Europe is a continent... as Europian even I dont know all things down there. At the place of the flag should be Bulgaria? or possibly Moldova or Serbia?? I know down there is also Greece at complete south and Bosna close to/on coast between Italy and Greece. But there are so many countries there I didnt remember them all... Other than that I pretty much can point out almost all Europe countries. (CZ here)

This anime is a bit strange in the Isekai field, since it doesn't introduce the Isekai background until episode 2. You get to see Tanya already in action before you even know she's an Isekai.

Well the German Empire was founded at 1871 in Versailles, Paris. So from that point on you can talk about Germany. And it last until 1918, which was succeeded by the Weimar Republic until 1933. so this anime blends the Empire and the Nazi regime together. The look is more Nazi-like but their character is more of the Empire
