You weld like I cook, only when I’m hungry enough and can’t get someone else to do it for me…but, it’s always edible. Funny enough, I also weld like I cook.😂

Looks like galvanized hooks. I found welding galvanized it’s always dirty. Good job Hank it will hold just fine 👍👍

Friendly suggestion, after you grind down your welds get some paintable caulk. With your finger go right over the weld with caulk, then paint. It'll look factory when dry 😊

Welding does need the battery and alternator disconnecting it can destroy the diodes in ur alternator found it out by mistake and not taking all off 😁

Anytime I weld its not pretty. But I tell people to try and break something I welded and it never breaks at the weld. I don't weld much ether so I don't care what it looks like as long as it holds.

An old guy told me once never weld on a car/tractor unless you disconnect the alternator. You have no control over the electrons once you start welding and it can damage the alternator.

hank you did just fine flux core wore is kinda dirty type weld any way, and your hooks to me looked like the metal was a different metal ans welding the two different types will weld funny

I received a nice new pair of bolt on style hooks for my bucket this Christmas. And you mentioned people being mean in comments sections about welding. I'm not a good welder, so not a thing I expect from someone else unless I am paying them for that ability. HOWEVER it hurts my brain that you put on a "Pair" of hooks, and one is a slip and the other a grab. WTF man?

Oh, and yes you are correct about removing anything to be welded if practical, the idea being if the ground cable has a poor connection, but the tracks have a good connection, the tiny bearing contact points will carry all the welding current. You can see why that would be less than ideal.
