I was conned into going to a memorial a few years back as my elderly parents had no one to give them a lift. Everyone was so happy to see me and hugged me etc. I’m not disfellowshipped or anything but those same people ignore me when they see me in the shops. Such hypocrites.

The best part of KH meetings/bookstudies, was getting the _hell_ out of there. The outside air always smelled fresher, colors seemed brighter, after escaping the insufferable, soul-crushing cloistering _dullness_ of it all, surrounded mostly by automatons. The atmosphere of KH's always struck me as oddly deadening; like there was an invisible pall that just sucked the energy and zest for life right out of you. Almost Corporate. Quite loathesome, it was.

The atmosphere was deadening bc theee is spell being casted on you when you are in there. I always felt it the second I walked in. With their creepy songs and bone chilling quiet through the whole thing. Now that I know JW are run by Feeemasons the whole eerieness and spell like attitude people are under makes sense.

@@Monkeyshine911 I was lucky: my parents (born into it) weren't that intense. In fact my mom always questioned and secretly hated it, even as a very little girl. By the early '80's she was able to negotiate a letter of Resignation/Dis-association with the Elders, not without some controversy, but without the full-on brunt of shunning that dis-fellowshipping would bring, at least from the immediate family. To their credit, none of my grandparents had the heart to do that, as she hadn't committed any overt crimes of Apostasy. By then, my dad (secretly entertaining New Age doctrines, reading _absolutely forbidden_ material like Edgar Cayce and Ruth Montgomery), was kinda drifting. Once in a while he'd go to a meeting, but he didn't get back into it (and destroy his life) until after their (amicable) divorce. The Jehovah Construct (and the disgusting fear It generates) was imbued too-deep into his psyche to him to exorcise. So the bulk of my childhood experience was only going to meetings when spending weekends or summer holidays at my grandparent's. By my teens, my dad and the malignant psycho twat he hooked-up with (from whom I ran away) tried to strong-arm me back into The Truth, but I was having none-of-it, able to escape and eventually live with my mom. By my late teens, the anthropomorphic Father-God Construct had been effectively slain, but It's rotting offal has left me contaminated, fiercely against all religion and viral Group-Think.

I was robbed of my childhood because of Jehovah’s Witness. I couldn’t wrestle after school or play football for the schools because I was forced to spend my nights here giving talks about stuff I wasn’t even sure about. I was embarrassed for being the weird kid. Being forced to go out in service wearing a suit to big for me getting laughed at by kids who’d see me the next day. It feels like my talent was wasted. I’m not very sociable and I’ve had traumatic encounters with them that I can’t ever forget. All because of them. I joined the army to get away eventually. Then I left with my girlfriend. I will never put my kids through that. I don’t believe in anything. A meteor smacked this rock before. It’ll happen again. And if we have the capability to stop it the sun will get us next. I’m sorry for the rant. But I don’t believe anything. The ruined my young life but as a man I learned no one cares. Being black I’m a statistic. And I just need to work until I find something that makes me truly happy. And give my kids the life I wish I coulda had.. and protect them with ever fiber in my being.

My cousin converted my mother and even though she was seriously ill she kept trying even to the day she died to convert me. They had her memorial service at the Kingdom Hall, and let me tell you, if you think losing your parent is bad enough, try dealing with it with a group of total strangers in a building you've never been in being so overly friendly you feel the urge to run. So I understand completely the reactions of others to this., personally this experience turned me into an agnostic. I believe in God I just don't believe in organized religion anymore after this experience

Dude. I feel you. You're not an agnostic then. If you believe in God, you are per definition not an agnostic. But that's fine. I really feel you dude. I would encourage you to just read the gospels. Start with John so you get an idea who Jesus is. Then go on to Matthew to figure out what Jesus taught while he was walking the earth. And don't have me convince you of anything. Just ask God to show himself to you if he really exists and have a plan for you and love you. You are obviously free to do whatever you want, but if you are as far as believing in God, then it would be kinda strange not to want to find out for sure who he is. It's possible you know. Contrary to what JWs and a lot of branches of christianity, we as christians do not have a blind faith. I'd talk all day, but that's gonna look wierd. I wish you good luck with your journey. :)

WHO IS OVER ALL? Ephesians 4:6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. GOD and FATHER is OVER/ABOVE ALL and that "All" includes the SON so they are NOT EQUAL THE BIBLE teaches that Jesus was MADE As Lord and Christ and as Son (ACTS 2:36, Prov 8, HEB 1:5), CREATED/PRODUCED/INSTALLED (Prov 8) , COME INTO BEING/MADE (Mat 21:42 - egeneto) and GIVEN LIFE by the Father - John 5:26 and it uses TODAY (Heb 1:5), and uses future tenses and is a prophecy in Isa 9:6 (Isa 9:6, - WILL BE) . If you are called MADE AND CREATED AND GIVEN LIFE, and NEVER CALLED in the BIBLE as Creator or Maker , then you are A CREATION. ALL FROM THE BIBLE From the Lord was this (this is referring to the chief cornerstone who is Jesus) , the word WAS is egeneto (made or came into being) - Matthew 21:42 and the exact Greek word used in John 1:3 - MADE, egeneto (came into being) - JESUS WAS MADE/CAME INTO BEING FROM THE FATHER , yes, Jesus was MADE/CREATED!, See also Acts 2:36, Heb 1:5, 1 john 5 Isa 9:6 the word Prince in the Prince of Peace means PATRON ANGEL also Leader. WHO IS the ONE LEADER that we have? Jesus. Now, that same exact Hebrew word was used for Daniel 12:1 which is used for Michael the Archangel. So are you saying there are MANY LEADERS now?

There would always be this burst of euphoria when leaving. The kind of euphoria that comes from removing a painful and failing tooth out of my mouth.

Wally Wally! Love it! Commenting is one of their exclusive members only type activities because rarely would a visitor comment (from my experience) and yet you did it in such a way that made them think. It also made them them nervous 😬 😂. Even though what you said was true, it was psychologically threatening. It was so unexpected that it shook them out of their trance. Well done! I hope you are okay after that, those encounters can be triggering.

Also. I'd be tempted to setup a mock stall on the sidewalk in front of a kingdom hall, selling fake beards (like in Life Of Brian) and tight pants. And surely someone's made a clown mask of Stephen Lett by now. It's hard to ridicule a mob so ridiculous, but someone's gotta try.

They started doing that at around 2016 2017 in the congregation I was in. And when they started doing that, my daughter said no more this is creepy as hell. I am never bringing my children in there again. And, whenever we would go outside to walk the children, a brother would follow us out, stay with us the entire time, which children have energy that they need to burn off and we don’t spank or beat the children when they express their energy. We just let them burn off some energy and be children. There was at least one elder the entire time out there with us. It was the weirdest thing and my daughter could not handle it. And having children can make you late because you have responsibilities to take care of. It doesn’t matter the time of morning you get up or how hard you try to be somewhere on time things happen, but they lock doors and you can’t get in. That was a huge red flag for my daughter. It freaked her out and she never went back.

I have seen it all in the bOrg. I went from northern Maine to Southern Florida and back to Maine and being in so many different KH's and congregations, you meet some interesting people and see and hear about crazy shit happening. One of the craziest things I have witnessed was the demise of a whole congregation in Florida. An elder had a huge party and people got hammered and some crazy stuff happened like wife swaps and drugs. Servants, pioneers, elders all there or at least most of them as well as a good portion of the congregation. When it got out that it happened, the Circuit Overseer and District Overseer went to the Hall and dismantled the entire body of elders and servants. They DF'd a ton of people. My KH was in a neighboring town, so the DO and CO asked elders and pioneers to go to that hall to keep it going. That was the craziest thing I ever saw. that was in Florida in the 80's.

Escaped the Tower 10 years ago, after being captive for 12 years. DF twice couldn't see myself going back after last. I had always asked the beard question to the elders and WT, since they bugged me about my Law Enforcement career, carry a weapon, blood guilt potential, blah blah blah(34 years of service and counting). Yup, those 1960's rebels' beards hang on their faces, like banners of societal disappointment. It grows naturally like the real truth, breeds confidence and positive demeanor. However, the Tower preached it must be cut, and cleaned up, like the hopes of All JW's and friends. The Tower participants and captives can't go around looking like Russelites now can we Judge Rutherford. Now, 2024 The Tower has "Allowed" the swag of the beard to walk its hallowed halls of Bethel once again, but the friends better not say Shit!! because we know what's right for our sheepeople. Perhaps The Tower in another decade or two, may stumble in the "Truth" and find the Bible does not direct, condone or direct its organization to practice Shunning of its members family etc. This is a mind control method used and practice in cult entities and never has it been scriptural or decent on any level, but maybe just maybe, I might get my family back. Most of them probably don’t know it’s a spin off of Adventist. I only found that out a few months ago and was born in. My mom was a hardcore pioneer, one of the ones they’d pair inactive folks up with to get reactivated and everything and I can guarantee (if she was alive to ask) if I asked her she’d say she didn’t know it came from the Adventist movement.

I also was a born in. Many many years ago, I went through a time in my life when I wanted to know everything about the cult. I was still in high school. I really dug into trying to find out everything. I mostly kept my discoveries to myself. I just felt that I needed to know. The more that I discovered, the more I needed to know. It was a quest. I was never close to Jehovah witnesses anyway. Being born into it, you would think that I would be. They seemed so odd to me. Intrusive, is the best word to describe them. They wanted to know everything I was doing and they were not at all shy about asking me about it. From a young age I learned to keep my mouth shut. Because I saw what could happen if you didn't. I didn't trust anyone in the cult. I couldn't understand kids my age who would spill their guts to these people. I so wanted to take them aside and tell them to tell them nothing. But, I couldn't trust them either. They would probably run to tell the elders. Couldn't trust them. No matter how benign the subject, you weigh every word. Some of the elders hated that. They were sure I was up to no good. Some of the cult members thought that I was just backward but I wasn't. I was just careful.

In every hall I went to there was always dramas, falling outs, lots of gossip and sisters and brothers not speaking to each other. Yet they still put out there that everyone gets on, all races get on. When I first had a study I was encouraged to give up all my friends and have ‘real ‘ friends. Until I realised that too many sisters were doing much worse things than my worldly friends. Much worse. ❤

I don't try as much when getting ready to go, and I don't study anymore (for obvious reasons) but yea. this could be part of the reason why young ppl are so disconnected ata the meetings. I want to talk about interesting ideas! Science and philosophy and the deep questions of reality. And when I find myself around inane incurious people, I get antsy and annoyed. I think we would have been fast friends. Anyway, I think you are very brave to go back to the hall. And your sister in law's cousin? She's just jealous. You are confident and self-assured.
