It’s so good that you’re working on your trauma. I married my husband about 8 years ago he’s been DFed for 23 years. He’s struggles with many things and he’s still so heavily indoctrinated from it and the trauma is very sad. He won’t admit it and thinks that’s not the reason he has issues. A lot of people who leave this toxic cult end up having addiction issues, un-alive themselves and many other sad endings. Keep up the good work!

I wish I could speak out so openly. I’m 4th generation JW. Both sides of my family are JWs. I’m not attending meetings or service for years now but not df’d or disassociated so just faded. If I speak out.. the remnants of any interactions are gone. I don’t want to give the BORG that power. Keep talking. It helps us and you.

I hear you man. Im a bit older than you in my early 60s. My JW mother who sanctioned and shunned me for the last 20 years died the other day. I was nearly in tears hearing your story because I received unconditional love from my non JW Nana as well. God Bless your grandparents and my Nanna. I do recall my JW mother being jealous of the feelings I had for Nanna lashing out about her negatively on more than one occasion.

I became a JW when I was 25 and technically still am a JW for 30 yrs though faded. I have to say, i do feel sorry a lot for those brought up as JWs from infancy or are born into it. From what I saw, childhood and teenage yrs in the JW world is a very , very controlled life. Personally I would not have survived if I was subjected to such control - no afterschool activities with school mates, no school camping, no after school sports to name a few. Generally young JW are strongly discouraged from forming friendships outside the JW community. Consequently you become mentally imbedded in the quicksand of the JW world. Look , many do like it and they seem to enjoy the feeling of being "in the truth" and because they have devoted so much of their life to it, they just wont question whats going on even when the leadership makes ridiculous statements and previous "truths" are now false truths.

I have never been religious.. I've done a lot of artwork for many...very weird stuff.. paintings from their perspective...so I started to watch videos like this... To try to understand....what I've learned is ...that people are believing out of fear..they seem very nervous..to actually say.. I grew up JW, born in 72. My grandparents were weird, jw converts but not hardcore and my parents were really hardcore until us kids showed up. They were both strict and lax. Bible lessons but real world lessons and trust. When i turned 25 i did a altavista search for JWs and i realized it was all made up garbage. I told my dad and he understood and got crisis of conscience and a bunch of other stuff and we had great discussions. One day the elders from my old congregation showed up at my house, i hadn't been to a meeting for a few years. Someone saw me shooting pool with my df'd friend so o got df'd. Nobody in my family shunned me. I'm pretty fortunate. Anyway the elders got my JW wife to leave me for a while. She came back but it just didn't work. Which sucks because i should've been better to her. Anyway the JW experience is like having the world by the balls and being a rebel kind of like a special agent and normal people are like "dude you are weird".

It really strikes me how subtle insidious and confusing the doctrine is, especially for children. If anyone asked if dancing was banned for JWs, I would have totally denied that. Especially when I learned how in other countries like Mexico dancing is huge for JWs! But that was the message you took away as a little kid. Journaling is healing, so is Art of any kind, Art of the child is beautiful and telling, as an adult, if you’re working on your inner child and you are right handed, try drawing pictures with your left hand. Brings back a sense of childlike times, learning to create your masterpieces.
