Welcome to KS & MO…. Where there is no allocated whiskey, or if it does show up, it is immediately hidden away in the store owners office to be given out to friends and family only… why I have to buy everything on secondary… it sucks!

That Blackberry Starlight is great mixed with lemonade. We couldn't find any Blackberry crown around here and our local shop suggested that to us as a replacement. Wouldn't drink it neat, but a great mixer.

Kansas City whiskey is where they add sherry directly to the whiskey to add flavor/rectify the whiskey. West Bottoms used to use MGP to blend then add sherry to. They have been working on their own distillate but not sure if it is ready yet but I tend to prefer their offering more than Rieger. Rieger uses their own distillate and do have whiskey finished in a sherry cask called Monogram. Reigers will also bottle barrels (from various sources) for people in their Private Stock label. They have an excellent (I suspect MGP since it is from Indiana) whiskey they bottle for the Kansas City Club if you can find it - sometimes at their distillery. I second the comments on Bubbles, Gomers and Pina up north of the river.

Glad you got to check out the cigar lounge at the majestic. Some great history there. Live music in the basement is always awesome as well.

Great video! if you would of drove one block more past the Discount Liquor, is Bubbles Wine and Spirits. Probably the best liquor Store in that area. Should also try Gomer's and Red X.

4:41 Good call on the one bottle of Gentleman’s Cut….was not great for the price and proof, but Boone County Founders Reserve was great! We did a distillery tour, it was really nice experience and it was dog friendly! We wanted to bottle the rickhouse smell as a cologne is was so good!!

I dont know if they would let you record in them but Lukas wine and Spirits, that place is a massive store they have damn near everything! If there is any place that would have that beer they would be your best shot. Other good places to look around in would be Gomers!

KC isn't the best unless you like beer. But I live in central Missouri and I love driving the 4 hours to the Tulsa, Oklahoma area and they are stacked with Weller products. The only true bourbon in Missouri is Holloday.

Man those first 3 stores you were at are within 5 miles of my house. At that discount liquors if you would have driven less than a mile south you would have come across a store named Bubbles. Great little store. That’s where I get all my allocated bottles. I love the way they do their allocated. They don’t make any lists or hold bottles for anyone. They just stick it up behind the counter and it’s first come first serve. I found a bottle of Blantons I had been looking for for 3 years there. The also had a bottle of Stag, Stag Jr, and Elmer T Lee all behind the counter.

The Bottle Shop is in "downtown" Overland Park. It's more a city center of the "old" part of Overland Park than a downtown. Anyway, it's a nice area that has really exploded the last few years. I live about 5 minutes from there. The store used to sell mostly organic wines, but I heard they were up for sale. Nice to know they have whisky now. By the way, I've NEVER seen a Blanton's or Eagle Rare on any shelf, in any store, in the KC metro. And I've been to a LOT of liquor stores. Hope you had a nice visit.

Historically, all those Haystack Needles from Redwood Empire are sourced from MGP. They are finished in a variety of different barrels (I have one 14yr that was finished in an apple brandy cask) and are very pricey - $200 and up. I *think* they are starting to produce (or going to start releasing) younger-aged Haystack Needles that 100% their own distillate, but no idea when.

Next time you are in KC go to the Gomer's in Lenexa (the ones in Midtown and on 75th St. are also pretty good). Excellent bourbon selection. Also suggest going to the Whiskey Snug in Weston (close to the Holladay distillery).

Sorghum whiskey is awesome on my pallet. It is definitely different, and not as much rye spiciness with a more sweeter finish. Old 55 makes an absolute stunner of a sorghum that is mixed with millet. You have to try their distillery. Jason is an awesome guy!

Hey so I know you're many states away from me in Commie-fornia 😆, but I was at Total Wine & Spirits and they had a TON of bourbon's on the self, lots of fancy ones from the stuff you've shown and the prices for me looked like they were either msrp or just under. You should Google them and see if they have something you like. Also in las vegas there's a liquor barn just west of the strip off of Sahara, there use to be a gigantic liquor barn that was half the size of a regular Walmart, insanely big. There's also a regular grocery store I know here in so cal that has an expensive selection booze behind thick glass that's locked, like a full wall sized glass case.

Toms Town Pendergast is probably my favorite bourbon coming out of the KC area. Holliday's first batch ever was horrible, coming from someone who drank WL 107 was spoiled with wheated whiskey. (however it's gotten better in the past year or so)

I really enjoy watching you do your hunts. Thanks Brother. Maybe some day our paths might cross and I could share with you the virtues of Irish Whiskey. You and I have very similar palates. We have a big issue with the “minerality” of Dickel, you can leave the single malt for the tea drinking crowd, why pay for Sinatra when you can buy Bonded for a nickel over regular Jack, and we don’t want the barrel proof to get drunk, we want to know what the whiskey is supposed to taste like. There wouldn’t be bourbon without the pot still Irish distilling the water of life hundreds of years before the first person ever thought to use corn to make liquor, in the first still that came from Ireland. Yes I know the thousands of historians who follow you are going to want to hang me by my Irish toes. This was a compliment. And a little bragging. I think I can put you on a bottle of whiskey in one go, on my first try, and you might just say “hmm.” And it’s not Red Breast 12 or Green Spot. So please, everyone else, don’t attack on this front. The best local bourbon in my opinion is from probably Ben Holliday. It is a tad high proof. They have a long line at the distillery when they release the special stuff. It is a lot better than some of the others the local stuff. Next time you are in town I would get some. I am not a fan of Rieger to be quite honest.
