Very interesting video, I think the solution to burnout is different for everyone. Spending time with family/friends, engaging in a hobby, time off work can all help to cure burnout. For some people, travelling might be even more stressful because it isn't easy to go about in a foreign country with a different language and culture.

Always love seeing solo travels! What an adventure :) Burnout happens when you're doing things that are not aligned to you, compounded. Travel if used as just an escape, will not be the solution. Whereas, doing things that you enjoy constantly will just result in fatigue. But yes once in a while, everyone needs a break!

I used to make it my goal to travel to one new place every year. However life happened (and Covid too) and I stopped doing that since 2018. I recently returned traveling again (even though it's a once a year thing). Similar to you I used to dread when going back to work as my trips comes to an end. But in my recent trip to Bali I realised that traveling taught me to live in the moment - that we're exactly where we need to be. There is time for everything and... I no longer have that dreaded feeling of going back to "reality". I don't think traveling is a cure for burnout in a long term too. But I believe if we are truly present in the moment when we're traveling, it should give us a good break and respite from our work (and life) and it's definitely good for our mental health. I wanna come back to Thailand soon!

I always figured the way to fix this would be to spend a week or 2 in an ashram with no electronics as a reset. considering most of us couldn't afford to take that much time off unless it really works I'd love to see results from that!

Good for Wenqi! Unfortunately when I'm on leave travelling overseas, I have to take my work laptop with me & work 2 to 4 hours each night + being the itinerary planner + guide, I got more burnout on my recent trip + low immunity + 4 hours of sleep each night so I got covid during my last trip. If I don't work while overseas, it stresses me more thinking of the mountain of work I'd be buried under when I come back.....

does it mean it’s time for wenqi to leave the job? 😅 it’s definitely a temporary escape, not the solution. what a cute travel log nonetheless, it’s so wholesome!

Traveling never cure one's soul, but it's still worthwhile. Walk Japan Shimanami Kaido, Tokaido, Lake Biwa and Nagasaki Kaido, and never miss out Shikoku and Shodoshima 88 Temples in Autumn November. Surely, it somehow revitalize one's half dead soul. 真,善,美就在四国。

You are a very cute girl. I laughed at your mr bean moments. I took a 2-yr sabbatical when I was in my mid 40s and then went back to work 2 yrs later fully charged, relaxed and became a AAA management person. I was a much better and effective manager as my perspective of life changed almost totally. Yes, short travelling doesn't cure burnouts. Sabbatical is more effective .

Solo travel is just such a terrible idea in this day and age. Especially even worse when you're a woman. That's just like announcing "hey y'all, it's so easy to kidnap me!"
