Dennis, I too have an eye issue, at first I was told I was going to lose sight in my left eye, that was scary I can tell you. but it turns out it is only slightly possible and if that happens it will take years!!! I mean, that's ok then!!!! so I get where you're coming from mate. YT channel, I am ploding away at my channel's, still finding what works for me, I too am aim to get to a point where I can dedicate all my time to them, fingers crossed not too far in the distant future. You are well ahead of me as far as subscribers, & I am not too worried at this point, just publishing videos when I can & building up a back catalog as it were, saving what I don't for a rainy day as well. When I am ready (time is the key) I will start to push it. People have no Idea how much time and effort having a YT channel takes (let alone 2 channels & 2 FB pages) a lot goes into making and posing a simple video let alone something like ToT posts. The long and short is do what you enjoy until you are ready to push the boat out. At the start I was busting a B*****K to get a video out every week & I was advised, don't give yourself such a hard time that you stop enjoying it. publish what you like, save what might make a backup or a multi task episode for a later date & remember, you can not, please everyone so please yourself. That ramble make sense? Andy

Thanks Andy. Yeah it's a grind, and I'd rather my channel not get popular if it meant wearing myself out or doing things I don't enjoy. Eye stuff is so scary. Hoping yours stay healthy as well!

I like your channel because you take on interesting projects and show that anyone can get in there and figure it out. I do like your serialized episodes because I always found it fun to see if your solution was going to end up working, so there was always a bit of suspense from that perspective. Lastly, I like that you are an authentic, likable person.

That's scary. I'm glad it's going to heal. Also JMO but you should make the videos that you think are most interesting and let the subscriber chips fall where they may. I love just riding along and learning when it goes in an unexpected direction. Like the openers open video or the white board one. Really explore the studio space this time!

In my opinion, the channel is titled "What Dennis Does" and not "Dennis Does DIY Sawmill" or truck repair, etc. I think that means you are in no way pigeonholed into producing a particular type of content. Whenever you doubt making a video on a topic just remember, there is a guy up in New York that has covered leatherworking, sewing, steel, brass, welding, construction, restorations, instruments, chickens, flea markets, the list really goes on, thus far it seems to be working for him, so why not you? I probably should mention I'm talking about Jimmy Diresta in case there is anyone new to the maker scene here that hasn't heard of him :D

Nice video mate thank you. I showed my wife and now she knows what I get from time to time. Even woke up in the middle of the night seeing it. Pretty stuff. Only lasts for 20 mins or so for me. But can't drive ...watch tv ...use PC... But exactly the same `Scintillating Scotoma` that I have. Good luck!....(edited to change can to can't. I can't do anything for a while. ....Doh!)

Your eyes are very important to you at your age thinking about blindness or maybe till the maybe's are overwhelming to you if you process slowly. I call it stinking thinking for lack of better words and totally my own word process. I was a sniper in the nam war cause of my vision. I had 20/20 in my right and 20/15 in the other giving me a advantage of seeing some distance easy like reading licence plates on cars coming at you and saying out loud what it was as they next to me couldn't read the turn offs on billboards. I felt smug in ways. Then I got shot and then I got shot again. So I came back home a little banged up but able to see fairly normal as others and just said glad I had it for while but I did missit. Then at home got into car accident, then logging accident until I made the mistake of catching someone who fell from a distance. I didn't mention that I am a big and very strong man with average of seventeen inch biceps. This man weighed approx three hundred pounds and believe it or not fear let me catch him in reflex mod. I saved him from any injury but I came to from a coma in the hospital and losing weight like crazy. I had been in the coma for almost two months. I had a broken neck and thoroughly busted up lower back!! Stupid for me cause it cost me my home and business, licence to drive and years to learn to walk. I was in pain then and I still am. I have learned to live with this but it gives me time to wallow in pity at times. I lost 90% of the friends and I didn't have any family either. I felt alone and desperate and even though I have made some big steps, fell into it again. I have the state of alaska to care for me now. They take me to the store or other reasonable places. I am too old to get another pet as they don't deserve me leaving when I pass. I''m diabetic now and have a pain pump sown in me. I ask them to dial the pain killer back so I can think but it never lasts. I though am still below what they think I should be on. Picture of the anatomy have progressively gotten better and they found and could fix it if it didn't take thirteen hours and no surgery by surgeon so it is not a option for me. I'm 72 but had a physically tuff wild life. I wouldn't change a thing now. I learned so much from studying the body. I was a licenced EMT for a long while but that kinda got me in this mess thinking that I could fix it myself. Any injury will heal in two years or less unless the body has been altered. Fewer years than I think are left but it was one wild ride

Thanks for your story, Morgan. I too was an EMT, but only for a short period of time.

Lol sand paper update... Yes, little things do matter. Doing things to reduce production overhead is important. Ocular migraines suck. I can't play video games much, or go boating, or turning my head back and forth shopping or... I get massive motion sickness and headaches when it happens. I wear dark sunglasses most of the time and that seems to reduced the number of episodes I have. I also have retinal scarring on the edges. Retinal detachment and scarring has so many causes and blood vessels popping is scary. Sometimes if you get into the dr soon enough they can clot a break like that which speeds healing and reduces vision issues.

Yes, I get this scintillating scotoma a couple times a year, and it's very similar to what you portray, except for me the dominant color is yellow-gold, with other colors like red, purple and green mixed in. Very colorful. Very flashy. Same jagged pattern, same overall C shape. But no headache; just a little bit of a sense of exhaustion or emptiness afterwards, and everything is fine.

Yeah I found this video as I've just had one of these, really weird experience. The flashing part has subsided now but it still feels like part of my vision is not working. Like when you look at a very bright light, only without a noticeable "spot" of missing vision. Other effects: dizziness, brainfog, slight feeling of anxiety, mild headache - weirdly located at the lower back of my skull.

Interesting discussion. I too suffer from what they call an ocular migraine, but in my case I lose vision completely in my left eye for 24 hours. It begins to clear in the middle after about 3 hours and slowly progresses around the eye. The eye surgeon says that one of the veins in my retina twitches & distorts the retina and it takes some time for things to go back to normal. I love the varied content because that's how my mind works too. I work on one thing for a bit and then I get an "oooh shiney!!" moment & I'm off doing something else. Drives my wife nuts. lol! Good luck & God speed.

I seem to have a similar form of scintillating scotoma, although I don't think I had a burst blood vessel since most of the times I've had it happen I wasn't doing anything strenuous. I find that as long as I keep my eyes open, especially at bright things, the longer it will last, and the more likely it will be that I'll get a dull headache at the end of it. I've never bothered to see how long I could sustain it, as I'm not keen on the visual distortion or the headache, even if it isn't that bad. There doesn't seem to be, for me, any relationship between stress and SS -and I've had them at home, at work, at the grocery store, etc. The first instance was at work back in the late 90s, and it is usually several months before the next. As far as duration, I would say that it can definitely last longer than an hour for me - I once tried ignoring it and carried on using my computer - it got bigger and didn't go away. I ended up with a dull headache and had to stop and close my eyes. I've never had a migraine and I almost never get headaches aside from muscular ones. I would add that my visual experience, based on your representation, is a bit different. It starts out as an undefined blurriness that expanded into somewhat of a C shape. The C both increases in size and thickness until I keep my eyes closed. It seems to be coming from my right eye. I experience minimal blurriness. The C has a shimmering pattern of tiny geometric shapes that are well defined and it reminds me of what kids call "holo" these days - like something etched by a laser that shifts in the light. I get the best results by keeping my eyes closed and covered. I was at work last week and had one, the first in months, The longer I keep my eyes closed, the faster it stops. In fact, as soon as I recognized the symptoms last time, I sat down and closed and covered my eyes and it was gone in a little over 10 minutes. Resisting doing so tends to extend the recovery time, and an extended time with active SS can give me that lovely dull headache. As I keep well hydrated and eat well, I cannot say that there is any correlation with hydration and nutrition. Frankly, though, it happens so rarely that I probably wouldn't notice something else that DOES correlate. I definitely don't recommend that someone keep working and that they should rest their eyes. Since the visual distortion tends to worsen as time passes, it can be a challenge to do things with your eyes, and it poses risks if you're operating machinery.

Good to see you back, I was wondering where you had gone. Good to hear that you are concentrating on your health. The well being of you & your family is paramount, Shall we call you the Marathon man now?? I like all your content. Do what you enjoy doing and don't worry about us...the numbers will come. You have a way of making interesting videos....a little maths, a little engineering, combined with some crazy ideas...wonderful stuff. When you get the migraine eye kaleidoscope...if you catch it early enough you can take a soluble paracetamol tablet and it helps shorten/improve the recovery time. Any straining can probably blow a blood vessel...straining to go to the toilet (maybe!!). Hey, in 1980's UK there was a singer called 'Buster Bloodvessel' of the band 'Bad Manners'...a big bald chap....'Ne Ne Na Na Na Na Nu Nu' (crazy stuff) Keep running...or they might catch you!!

@@WhatDennisDoes Do you believe an MRI is definitive? I mean, as I got it like 2 days after the aura, maybe if I had a lesion or sthg, could it be too small? I suppose they see everything on an MRI sorroy for the doubts :S Hope u are doing fine
@WhatDennisDoes4 жыл бұрын
@@laurafont2959 I'm not a doctor of course so I don't want to give advice but mine is textbook migraine aura so I'm not worried, it's really common.

@@WhatDennisDoes Thanks. I have an OCD health anxiety disorder and got obsessed with it, cause I am very very scared when it happens to me. The neurologist reassured me there's nothing to worry about even if it is like a freaking allucination, like if you have taken drugs or sthg. I found out on the Itnernet some brain lesions are invisible to a MRI for they are soo small but I would be very unlucky and get no other symptoms apart from the aura, so I believe I should stop worrying. How are you about your vision condition?
